A BLOODLESS COUP???

For some strange reason beyond my ken, earlier today this post disappeared of the blog, so I have just re-instated the piece.

I know I go on and on about corporate fascism, claiming that we are living under such a system, but it is becoming increasingly clear with each statement coming from the cabal that sits in Europe's marble halls discussing how to enlarge and protect their billions, that that is the system which controls our lives. The Greek people are now living in a pit of deprivation, their elected government has an unelected "technocrat" installed as its leader and now the financial fascists at the centre of Europe are demanding that they take over the fiscal running of that country. It is a coup by the corporate fascists and they will do it to any country they wish, if they think it is the best thing for their money. Though some would say it is a bloodless coup, that is not exactly true. The Greek people have already paid in deprivation, a stratosheric increase in unemployment, increase suicides and a massive increase in health problems, these are just some of the casualties of this war. It is a class war and the corporate fascists are beginning to show their teeth.

It was tried previously (several times) under "slightly different" circumstances, and failed. Yet when it comes to taking over a country without spilling even one drop of blood, and converting its citizens into debt slaves, Germany's Merkel may have just succeeded where so many of her predecessors failed. According to a Reuters exclusive, "Germany is pushing for Greece to relinquish control over its budget policy to European institutions as part of discussions over a second rescue package, a European source told Reuters on Friday." Reuters add: "There are internal discussions within the Euro group and proposals, one of which comes from Germany, on how to constructively treat country aid programs that are continuously off track, whether this can simply be ignored or whether we say that's enough," the source said.' So while the great distraction that is the Charles Dallara "negotiation" with Hedge Funds continues (as its outcome is irrelevant: a Greece default is assured at this point), the real development once again was behind the scenes where Germany was cleanly and clinically taking over Greece. Because while today it is the fiscal apparatus, tomorrow it is the legislative. As for the executive: who cares. At that point Goldman will merely appoint one of its retired partners as Greek president and Greece will become the first 21st century German, pardon, European colony. But at least it will have its precious euro. We can't wait until Greek citizens find out about this quiet coup.

AND SO - WHAT NOW?

As the corporate fascist machine moves into overdrive, the entire fabric of our society is being dramatically changed. All public assets are being privatised, all public spaces are being sold off at bargain basement prices to that same corporate machine. We the public will be rootless individuals in a fragmented society owned by the financial Barons of the corporate world. Anarchism holds up a vision of a society that could be, a society where we the people own everything in common ownership. A society that sees to the needs of all its people, freed from the grip of the profit motive that feeds the parasitical army of the corporate fascists. But are anarchist going about it in the right way? With all the rapid and dramatic changes taking place in the world today perhaps it is time to examine ourselves, to ask questions, to re-adjust, to shape to the new dangers of that rampant corporate fascism that confronts us today.

Putting things in perspectiveAnarchists in the UK today stand at a historical crossroads. Whether we identify as students, workers, unemployed, as members of a network/organization or not, we are called upon to answer this fundamental question: what is our political relevance to the larger world in the context of the struggle against austerity and beyond?
Other important questions lead on from here:-
Are we existing in a tacitly recognized political ghetto, where we see ‘our’ concerns as more or less unrelated to the more ‘mainstream’ struggles of the students and the workers (public as well as private sectors)?
If many of the anarchists identify themselves ‘as class struggle anarchists’, are we adequately engaging in that class struggle?
Perhaps the term ‘class struggle’ itself needs to be sufficiently defined in order for us to engage in it?
How do we relate to the rest of the anti-cuts movement, which falls within the ambit of ‘class struggle’? Is there a desire to do so?
Most crucially, as social anarchists, how do we act collectively and in a unified way, as an ‘anarchist movement’, not just in name but in deed?
Looking forward
The answers to the above questions – the desire to engage with these questions – will determine our future as to whether anarchism has an appeal beyond the visuals of menacing-looking black blocs and street battles with the police. Do we have answers to the thorny problems of everyday life? Can we practically and materially create the alternatives needed that the Left has no desire to do? Or, are our ideas mere rhetoric, and incapable of being implemented?
Organizing ourselves, and mobilizing people to this end, not just in the current social unrest but also in the long-term, is key to the continued political life and growth of anarchism. Otherwise, the title ‘anarchist’ would mean nothing at all, and we may have to consider ceding the way to new political subjectivities and new political subjects who are better able to adapt to the changed circumstances. The is true of the Left as much as it is true of anarchists.
Perhaps we can begin this self-critical, but also self-renewing process, by examining whether our current organizations and organizational frameworks have been adequate to meeting this challenge, or do we need to create entirely new spaces and structures that are efficient, inclusive, and non-sectarian. For there is no doubt that the need for such structures and procedures exists, and if we can begin to build them together it might just spell the difference between our political obscurity and a political rebirth.

IT'S FRACKING AWFUL!!

The oil companies are increasingly looking at the technique of "fracking" as a source of oil, even although they are aware of the possible problems. Problems like poisoning the water table and triggering earth tremors. Recently there was a case in America where after "fracking" started methane found its way into the towns drinking water, which could be shown by turning on your drinking water tap and setting it alight, yes water on fire. In our own country the area around Blackpool suffered minor earthquakes after "fracking" started in that area. To the oil companies none of this is of any consequence when it comes to making money. Of course none of the oil executives live in the area where the "fracking" will take place. To the corporate world the destruction of the planet doesn't enter the equation when it comes to profit, the planet is there to be plundered to produce wealth for the parasites in control of this crazy system.

We are all aware of how caring and compassionate areour bankers and stockbrokers. This man can stand in front of camerasand spout about caring capitalism and moral markets, being aware thathis ancestors made their fortunes from naked, raw, brutal capitalism,ripping-off the ordinary people. When was the era of caringcapitalism, when have we lived with moral markets, that he keepsreferring to? While doing his damnedest to pass himself of as anordinary guy, this smooth over privileged public school product, sitson a fortune that stretches back to his parasite ancestor KingWilliam IV. It is said that this ordinary guy left university and walked into a Toryjob after a mystery caller from Buckingham Palace recommended him.His background is littered with Sirs, Baronets, Earls, andViscountesses, and his fortune has grown because of the harshexploitative capitalism that he supports through his policies asPrime Minister. You can rest assured that any caring, compassion ormorality he pushes for, will be to the benefit of his rich privilegedparasitical friends, not for the benefit of the likes of you and I.

This "cry from the heart" for that illusion, caring capitalism, isa true reflection of his hypocrisy and cynicism. It also shows how he believes that thegeneral public are a bunch of fools and will swallow this shit of thecaring capitalism. THE HIGH OFFICE OF PRESIDENT!!!

I for one can never get my head round why such idiots with such bizarre beliefs get massive support when running for the US presedency. The media in the West lampoon Islamic fundamentalists for what they describe as crazy and dangerous views, yet report with some reverence the views of such crackpots like the bunch that is running for the Republican nomination for the US Presidency.

Take just two, this from WHY EVOLUTION IS TRUE.

Rick Santorum, Republican candidate for President, said this about education in a speech in Florida:

“It’s no wonder President Obama wants every kid to go to college,” said the former Pennsylvania senator. “The indoctrination that occurs in American universities is one of the keys to the left holding and maintaining power in America. And it is indoctrination. If it was the other way around, the ACLU would be out there making sure that there wasn’t one penny of government dollars going to colleges and universities, right? . . . If they taught Judeo-Christian principles in those colleges and universities, they would be stripped of every dollar. If they teach radical secular ideology, they get all the government support that they can possibly give them. Because you know 62 percent of children who enter college with a faith conviction leave without it.”

Yeah, the ACLU has such awesome power over government spending on schools.

Santorum’s solution? Stop supporting higher education:

“I’ll bet you there are people in this room who give money to colleges and universities who are undermining the very principles of our country every single day by indoctrinating kids with left-wing ideology. And you continue to give to these colleges and universities. Let me have a suggestion: Stop it.”

Ralph Shortey, a state senator from Oklahoma, who thinks that food companies are putting aborted fetuses in food, and has introduced a bill in the state legislature to prohibit the use of fetuses or fetal cells in food. Of course nobody is doing this or intends to.___.

One would imagine that the people of any country who look to someone to represent them would pick somebody they consider holds similar views to themselves and is in some way as reasonable and rational, or even more so, then themselves. So is this what we are seeing in America? Or are these just the rightwing nutcases that the rightwing nutcase media want to push in the hope of stifling any alternative view from surfacing? When you hear the views of this bunch I would imagine that most reasonable Americans will realise the truth of that statement, "Why Vote, it changes nothing".

Faslane Peace Camp 30 Days of Action at Faslane Faslane Peace Camp are announcing 30 days of non-violent direct action against the Faslane Naval Base to mark the 30th birthday of the Peace Camp. Over the last year, a small group of us have been endeavouring to make Peace Camp a healthy and happy place to facilitate direct action against Trident. We are ready for action! The birthday celebrations will commence on Saturday 9th of June 2012 and continue until the 9th of July. This week the First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond announced that an independent Scotland would be a nuclear free Scotland. Whilst these are welcome words, the response is that the MOD are reportedly looking into new venues south of the border in the fear that Scotland will win independence. We need to give a clear and unmitigated message that simply moving them is not enough. We are in a unique position to make this potential removal from Scotland mean an ipso facto end to nuclear weapons in the UK but our message needs to be full volume. We are inviting local, national and international groups to take responsibility for a day of anti-nuclear activities, this can be a march to the base, a demo at the gates, a blockade, a mass trespass, a die-in... get creative! If you are a small group or an individual and want to team up with others, we can help choreograph partnerships. We can also facilitate workshops on peaceful direct action at Faslane so no activist experience is necessary. There will be lots to be done day to day and plenty of roles to fulfil during the 30 Days campaign and the time leading up to it so enthusiastic helpers (and donations) will be welcomed with open arms! BIG BROTHER, HE'S STILL AROUND.

Like I keep saying, in this type of society big brother never goes away, it can be the state, it can be the fascist corporate Mafia, or both. Until we get rid of both, we will always have to fight big brother.

     ACTA -- a global treaty -- could allow corporations to censor the Internet. Negotiated in secret by a small number of rich countries and corporate powers, it would set up a shadowy new anti-counterfeiting body to allow private interests to police everything that we do online and impose massive penalties -- even prison sentences -- against people they say have harmed their business.

      Europe is deciding right now whether to sign ACTA -- and without them, this global attack on Internet freedom will collapse. We know they have opposed ACTA before, but some members of Parliament are wavering -- let's give them the push they need to reject the treaty. Here we go again, theWestern “defenders of democracy” are rattling their big sabres.This time it is at Iran. It is rather bizarre the the sabre rattlersare always those with the biggest sabres. The three most vociferousin threatening Iran, USA, UK and France, are in the top four formilitary budgets. When it comes to the world's military budget theUSA is away out in front with a massive 42.8%. Even China, which hasa quarter of the world's population is dwarfed by this, coming inwith a mere 7.3%, followed by that small island of the coast ofEurope, the UK, with a totally disproportionate 3.7% and then Francewith 3.6%. Iran's percentage is so small it doesn't even register onthe chart below.

We in the Westlive in a civilization that seems to indulge in endless wars, acivilization that somehow believes that the destruction of othercountries, with the resultant thousands of deaths of ordinaryinnocent civilians is a legitimate answer to a problem. Think of thepretexts offered for our invasion and destruction of Afghanistan andIraq, think of the number of lives lost and those injured physicallyand mentally on both sides. Has it been the answer? Can we hold ourhead up and say “problem solved”? Can we honestly say that theworld is now a better place because of the destruction of these twocountries, has the hundreds of thousands of deaths of innocent peoplebeen justified?

The reasonsbeing put forward for an attack on Iran is that it is trying to dowhat we and a host of other nations, including Israel, have alreadydone. We have no proof, just speculation. Is that justification forwhat would be the death of hundreds of thousands of ordinary innocentpeople. We would be killing plumbers, bus drivers, gardeners,doctors, typists, teachers, elderly and children, for what? Perhapsthe really reason is that we in the West live in a society where warmakes unimaginable wealth for the corporate world. A society that isunder the control of a military industrial complex, producing wealthand power for that small cabal of billionaire parasites. The samebillionaire parasites that hold the “elected” governments of theWest in their pocket.

Sections of the Britishestablishment are now talking up confrontation. Meanwhile callsfor intervention against Iran's ally Syria are also growing.Theechoes of the build up to war on Iraq are loud and clear.
        Ifyou oppose the terrible prospect of a war on Iran or Syria pleasejoin the protest this Saturday. Speakers will include Tony Benn,Lindsey German, Roger Lloyd Pack, Abbas Edalat, Jeremy Corbyn MP,Sabah Jawad, Shirin Shafie.

ANOTHER ATTACK ON OUR PENSIONS.

A bit later than I would have liked but their is so much justified unrest among the ordinary people it can't all be reported at once. The struggle is everywhere, the struggle is global.

Usdaw, the union that represents workers at Unilever’s manufacturing sites in Leeds and Port Sunlight, has accused Unilever of ‘breathtaking complacency’ in its approach to the escalating pension dispute at the company.

The accusation comes on the day Usdaw members at Port Sunlight and Leeds begin a second round of 24 hour strikes as part of a 12 day rolling programme of action involving unions at all of Unilever’s 12 UK sites.

Picket lines will be in place from 6.00pm today at Port Sunlight and from 7.00pm today at Seacroft in Leeds.

The rolling programme of action was agreed by reps from Usdaw, Unite and the GMB, following Unilever’s refusal to reconvene talks on the future of the company’s final salary pension scheme, despite a first wave of strikes in early December.

David Johnson, Usdaw National Officer said:

“Unilever’s continuing intransigence and refusal to return to the negotiating table, coupled with its statement this week saying ‘it is currently not clear how the dispute will be resolved’ demonstrates a breathtaking complacency in its approach to the dispute.”

“Our members, and I’m sure every employee at the company, knows that the dispute will only be resolved around the negotiating table and the sooner Unilever wise up to this fact the sooner this escalating and damaging dispute will end.”

“The apparent indifference of the company to the impact of the dispute has angered our members to the extent that they are now pushing for much longer and more frequent industrial action to maximise the financial and operational impact on the company.”

“Unilever’s customers, shareholders and other stakeholders could be forgiven for thinking that the company cares less for its employees and its corporate reputation than it does for one of its brands of soap powder or deodorant.”

Usdaw represents workers at Unilever’s manufacturing facilities at Port Sunlight in Wirral and Seacroft in Leeds. The union also has a small number of members at Unilever’s Research and Development facility in Port Sunlight and at the company’s factory in Warrington.

Unilever closed its final salary pension scheme to new members in 2008, but promised the 5,000 existing members that this would make the scheme safe for the future. Despite this promise, Unilever announced in May 2011 that it intended to close the scheme altogether and replace it with a career average scheme that will mean workers losing an average of 20% of their projected retirement income with some losing up to 40%.
In November 2011, Usdaw members voted by a margin of 5 to 1 in favour of industrial action in protest at Unilever’s proposals. The first 24 hour strikes took place on 8 and 9 December 2011.
Usdaw (the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers) is the UK’s fourth biggest and fastest growing trade union with over 410,000 members. Membership has increased by more than 17% in the last five years and by nearly a third in the last decade. Most Usdaw members work in the retail sector, but the union also has many members in transport, distribution, food manufacturing, chemicals and other trades.

Barbara Dowling is being charged under the Census Act, accused of not filling in her census form properly. Barbara will be defending herself.

The trial will be at 10am in Court 16, Glasgow Sheriff Court Thursday 26 January.

Countless Scots have either failed to fill in their census forms or returned them partially completed or improved by critical comments, but have not been prosecuted. Barbara's victimisation is inexplicable.

CACI, the firm that helped run Abu Ghraib and also helped run Scotland's Census, has so far dodged any accountability in law for its involvement in abuse and torture. It claims immunity in the US as a government contractor. And in Scotland the Crown Office refused to prosecute CACI, initially claiming lack of jurisdiction.

Barbara is the first person to be tried in Scotland over objections to the 2011 census. SHE NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT.

WORKERS KNOW YOUR HISTORY - CLYDESIDE APPRENTICES STRIKE 1952.

January 27 marks the 60th anniversary of an industrial event that introduced me to working class struggle. As an apprentice in, what was then, Fairfield shipyard, I was involved in the apprentices strike of that year. 60 years on and the whole concept of apprentices has almost disappeared and so have the shipyards, but the working class struggle still goes on. This struggle is a continuous struggle and will be as long as we live under the yoke of this exploitative system called capitalism. Capitalism has moved forward and has developed into a world wide corporate fascism, which is even more ruthless in its quest for ever increasing wealth and power for its small army of parasites. The development of global corporate fascism re-enforces our need for global class struggle.

SOLIDARITY.

THE CLYDESIDE APPRENTICES' STRIKE 1952.

THE CONFERENCE.

January 27 1952 saw an event that set the ball rolling for the first major apprentices' strike since 1937, before the second world war. On that Sunday the Young Engineers Clydeside Conference was called. It took place at 1pm in Community House Clyde Street Glasgow, wages and conditions being the main subjects up for discussion. A Clydeside Apprentices' leaflet claimed, “Apprentices pay the same as journeymen for meals, travel, tools and overalls, etc.” The conference also called for Action Committees to be set up in every workshop and to pursue a claim for £1 week increase on apprentices' wages. At the conference there were 31 firms represented with 114 apprentice delegates representing all trades in engineering and shipbuilding.

Committee secretary, Jimmy Reid, stated, ”--it is not enough to feel indignation, but it was necessary to translate it into action. The committee supported 100% trade union membership among apprentices and stated, “We are the skilled tradesmen of tomorrow---and it is in our hands that the future prosperity of this country depends--.” At this time young lads were being sent to fight in Korea, Egypt, Malaya etc.

A RISE IN FEELINGS.

A delegation from Fairfield Shipyard, Govan, Glasgow, stated that the apprentices there believed that the next step forward was a token strike and demonstration on the streets of Glasgow. “We will make the bosses shake when they see 1,000 apprentices marching through the streets of Glasgow.” Some working conditions were described, saying, apprentices were working on water tests, up to their knees in muck and rust and earning 24 shillings a week.

FIRST DAY OF ACTION.

The first one day strike and demonstration saw 5,000 apprentices march through Glasgow city centre. There was a roar of cheering when the demonstration was informed that 1,200 Greenock apprentices had stopped work in solidarity. At the Hydepark Locomotive works Springburn Glasgow, the management tried to get the apprentices to go to an arranged film show instead of striking. It failed miserably.

Eric Parks of Weirs Pumps Cathcart Glasgow said he was called before the apprentices' supervisor who said, “Eric my boy, you've fallen down in my respect. The employers are making sacrifices in our works--.” Eric pointed out that Weirs had made £1.25 million profit last year, or £6 per head per week.

A comment by a member of the government that a loaf of bread might soon cost 10/- (ten shillings, -50p). This was taken up as, 3 loaves of bread a week—an apprentices wage.

THE LONDON DELEGATION.

A delegation of apprentices interviewed employers representatives in London and it was stated in the press, that these young engineers didn't fear important looking gents in Anthony Eden hats and impeccable suits. On this London delegation were Eric Parks, Jimmy Reid, John McColl, and Ernest Skilling.

SPREADING.

In Aberdeen 600 apprentices noisily marched through the city streets, the call for strike action was now spreading. There was now apprentice action in Glasgow, Greenock, Aberdeen, Manchester, Shefield and London.

THE RESOLUTION.

At a delegate conference on Sunday March 2nd a resolution to call a strike for Monday March 10th 1952 was carried by 95 for and 5 against. The resolution stated, This conference of delegates representing apprentices from all over Scotland, demands a reply not later than 12am of Friday March 7th to the claim of the Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions for a £1 per week increase in all apprentices wages. An unsatisfactory reply or a failure to reply will be regarded as deliberate refusal to reach agreement and will result in strike action commencing on Monday March 10th at 11am..

BULLISH ATTITUDE.

The attitude of the apprentices was very bullish with speaker after speaker emphasising that apprentices wanted strike action in the belief that only militant action would lead to a successful campaign. At the conference Jimmy Reid stated; “Before the lads went into action the employers had no need to worry about them, but now these people are sitting up and having to take notice of the apprentices,--- the lesson is clear.”Eric Parks reminded the conference of the huge profits being made by the employers and said; “We must see the necessity of forming apprentices' committees in every factory as the main form of organisation----it is better to suffer a little hardship than to grovel on our bellies and accept the miserable and intolerable conditions of the present time.”

THE STRIKE.

On Wednesday March 6th 500 apprentices from Caledonian Shipyard Dundee staged a half day token strike in support of the £1 claim. Other action, demonstrations and marches of support sprang up in London, Manchester and elsewhere.

No satisfactory answer arrived so the strike went ahead on Monday 10th March. With 5,000 Clydeside apprentices walking out at 11am that day. By March 22nd over 17,000 apprentices in engineering and shipbuilding and other key industries were on strike. At this period Birkenhead, Manchester and Shefield joined the strike. There was union and financial support form workplaces, some workplaces were levying workers 2/6 (two shillings and sixpences,12 and a half pence.) to 5/- (five shillings, 25 pence.) Workers at the Rolls Royce Works donated £150.

By March 25th nearly 20,000 apprentices were on strike. March 26th Glasgow shop stewards decided to take token action to support the apprentices strike. In Edinburgh where apprentices had decided to go back, they walked out again the same day 800 strong. Harland and Wolf's Belfast now joined the strike with over 1,000 apprentices walking off the job.

That week there was a march and demonstration in Glasgow which saw 5,000 apprentices march through the city streets. By this time Rolls Royce had donated £500 to the strike fund.

THE RETURN TO WORK.

Approximately 20,000 apprentices who had been on strike for more than three weeks went back to work on the understanding that it would speed up negotiations with the employers. Delegates representing 14,500 took decisions for future action should the employers fail to give a satisfactory response. The conference adopted a strong worded resolution which expressed determination to carry the fight to a successful conclusion.

Pat McCauley, secretary of the Greenock strike committee stated; “This is only the first round in the struggle. The lads have shown their mettle and shaken the bosses. If we don't get a reply to our claim shortly, the bosses must be held responsible for what will follow--- this is a tactical retreat not a defeat. The boys are still in fighting mood.”On Friday April 25th apprentice delegates from Clydeside, Aberdeen, Manchester, Shefield and York decided in Glasgow to accept, under protest, the recent wage award agreed between the trade unions and the employers. The conference stated that this was only the first stage in the struggle for better conditions.

DISCONTENT.

Eric Parks, secretary of the Clydeside Apprentices committee said that the amount employers gave which was higher than their first offer, and the fact that they negotiated a separate wage claim for the apprentices at was entirely due to the militant action taken by the lads in the workshops and shipyards. The fact that there had been a separate negotiated wage claim for the apprentices represented a terrific victory for the lads. Previously the apprentices wage increases, if any, were simple tacked on to the end of the wages agreement made with the journeymen.

The general feeling among the apprentices, especially the 1st. 2nd. and 3rd year lads was one of discontent. A discontent that said it should be accepted under protest and immediately make arrangements to go forward for a new demand.

The 10s and 11s award was a fair bit of money to many apprentices and this may have been the aim of the employers by making it less likely that the older lads, who would be journeymen in a year or so, would be less likely to support further strike action.

Time and timeagain we see our legislators, who are elected to protect assets thatbelong to the people, take those assets and hand them to thecorporate world, gift wrapped. Councils across the country will soonsee masses of valuable public assets disappears into the portfolio ofthe rich and greedy, with the public purse receiving as little as 40pfor sites worth millions. This is thanks to the Scottish governmenthaving another look at a bill that ran out of time in the lastparliamentary session. The cronies of the corporate world sitting inHolyrood never give up, if they can't do the bidding of theircorporate masters in one session, then will try again in the next. This plundering of public assets is all part and parcel of the privatisation of everything and anything that is of value, part of the sustained attack on the ordinary people, making them totally dependent on the corporate world for everything from their education, libraries, public parks to health and leisure. They are your assets, were you asked if you wanted some millionaires to have them for 40p?

"Landexpert Andy Wightman said publicly owned property let on so calledultra-long-term leases – with more than 100 years still to run –could be sold to the leaseholders for a nominal sum. This would meanassets that councils hold on behalf of citizens and protect fromredevelopment could be under threat.

Mr Wightman,the author of Who Owns Scotland, and The Poor Had No Lawyers, said itwould affect assets such as Waverley Market – now known as PrincessMall – in the heart of Edinburgh. It is publicly owned and shieldedfrom development.

Thelaw-change could see the 1.68 acre site sold to the currentleaseholder, former Rangers owner Sir David Murray, who would assumeownership for a nominal sum. What happens to the prime site will seta precedent that could affect many civic gems as about 9000 longleases are examined in Scotland.

Mr Murraystands to get a £50million prime city centre site for less than 40pas a direct result of the planned law change being relaunched by theScottish Government. the ultra-long-term leaseholds – some last 999years – were introduced at the end of the 18th century to encourageindustrialisation and are being modernised as they can pose legalproblems for leaseholders in developing the sites.

Itis understood Mr Murray's Premier Property Group (PPG) bought theleasehold on Waverley Market in 2004 from developers who acquired itin 1982. PPG is thought to have paid £37m for the lease alone. Thesite brings in about £2m a year in rent from shops. The firm pays 1pa year rent to Edinburgh City Council. The nominal sale sum forWaverley would be based on the 1p rental deal struck with theoriginal developer in 1982 and if it went ahead early after the lawwas changed the cost would be expected to be under 40p.---"

Yea, we all know it's a stitch up and the financial Mafia are the only ones who gain. I am of course talking about the banking system and the cosy relationship with the ratings agencies and the IMF (International Mankind Fuckers).

Well the banks, of course. The banks get to buy up the public assets, which they can then “monetise”. It is legalised theft, and all enabled by that fictional “credit rating” provided by the ratings agencies in the first place. It is by this process that the world is being driven into further and further indebtedness to the banks.----"

IT'S A GLOBAL STRUGGLE.

Redand black flags waved as a dozen people from the Anarchist Federation,Industrial Workers of the World, the Scottish Socialist Party,the Solidarity Federation and other individuals took part in a picketof the Glasgow premises of Adecco for one hour between 4 and 5pmon Friday 20th January.

Acouple of hundred leaflets were handed out to curious passers-by explaininghow Adecco are supplying strike breakers to replace workers onan indefinite strike at the ABB Factory in Cordoba Spain. We also explainedhow the lower wages and job insecurity encouraged by employmentagencies like Adecco worsens conditions for all workers.

Onemember of Adecco's staff came out and laughed when we told her why wewere there and then had her fag break. 2 other members of staff cameout to ask what we were doing and took the leaflet. One falsely claimedthat we weren't making it clear that the Adecco strike breakingwas in Spain to try to disassociate their office from the dispute. However he did accept they were part of the same company. Placardsclearly stated the demands of the strikers in Spain – equal payfor all workers at the ABB Factory in Spain, respect for all ABB andAdecco subcontracted workers, a safe workplace for all workers, ABBand Adecco should talk to the strikers, Adecco should stop providingscabs for strike breaking, sacked strikers should be re-instatedby ABB and Adecco collective bargaining rights and job securityfor all workers. Another placard in Spanish, based on a bannerby the strikers union, the National Confederation of Labour (CNT)called for the defence of all jobs.

Theother member of staff called the police. The police turned up to askwhat the picket was about and to say the protest was fine as long aswe didn't block the entrance and then quickly left. No one crossed thepicket line. The police returned a bit later to tell us they had spottedus on Facebook and to repeat what the picket was about!

Apostman calling at neighbouring offices stopped to say even though hewasn't going to Adecco he wouldn't cross a picket line even if it wasone man and a dog. He was a Communications Workers Union rep who alsotrains people in other unions. He took our leaflets to put up on noticeboardsat the main Glasgow sorting office in Glasgow. He will also be giving them to Union of Shop, Distributiveand Allied Workers (USDAW) members he is currently trainingthrough Union Learn at the Tesco Extra in Springburn. A passingteacher also stopped to voice his support. He had been out on November30th.

Pickets also tookplace in Brighton, Bristol and London. Since November 28th there havebeen numerous solidarity pickets around Spain and one as far away asChile. From Mark M.

AL CAPONE STYLE BONUSES!!

We keephearing rumblings from our shiny politicians about regulating thebanks and curtailing those monopoly money bonuses. But I wouldn'thold my breath on anything actually happening, afte all most of the politicians have friends in that little racket, all the patter is forpublic consumption only. It is difficult to find on what criteria thebankers base their right to those obscene bonuses. They can't justifytheir bonus claim on hard work. If it was hard work that meritedthose staggering bonuses, then I would probably be a very rich man.Not because of my hard work, but that of my father, he was a coalminer all his working life. The pits used to close for the GlasgowFair fortnight, but they always needed a skeleton crew to go down thepit every day to check for gas and/or flooding etc. So he volunteered forthat year after year. My mother and her wee gang would head off toDunoon for our two weeks holiday, my father never came, we saw him atthe weekends. Now that is hard work, so if stratospheric bonuses werebased on hard work my dad would have been a millionaire, and nodoubt, me being his only son, would have benefited very nicely afterhis death, however, I'm just one of the nations poor pensioners. Sowe can discount the hard work theory for big bonuses. Perhaps it isbased on the amount of money you generate, they could believe thatthe more money you generate, the bigger your bonus. So the lessmoney you generate the less of a bonus you get. Of course if we carrythis to its natural conclusion, if you don't generate money then youare in trouble. Meaning that people like surgeons etc. who go off towork every day, cutting and stitching people, don't generate anymoney. In fact they cost us money, should we then charge these peopleto work for us? Or should we base remuneration on a simple “fairdays wage for a fair days work”, principle?

Thetruth is that there is no justification for those ridiculous,mind-blowing bonuses, it is just the simple law of gangsterism. Justas in the Al Capone days, the mobsters looked after “their boys”,so that they could rely on them to do their dirty work and protectthem and their wealth creating racket. So the financial Mafia of today, lookafter “their boys”, so that they can rely on them to do theirdirty work and protect them and their wealth creating racket. It isnot in the remit of the financial Mafia and “their boys” to doanything for the community at large, it is simple to gather as muchwealth and power into their particular section of the rackets.

ADECCO: Casualised Strikebreaking at its Finest

ADECCO: Stop Supplying Strikebreakers to Asea Brown Boveri factory in Cordoba, Spain. Employment agencies have long been criticised for profiting from casualisation, precarious emploment and for creating an increasing insecure job market. However, ADECCO, the largest employment agency in the world, has now taken this to a whole new level. Not content to simply lower wages and job security through inferior short term contracts, ADECCO has now gotten into the business of strikebreaking. Workers at a Asea Boveri Brown (ABB) factory in Cordoba Spain have been on indefinite strike since 28th November, camped out all day and night in front of the factory. The strike was called in protest at ABB plans to make workers employed by subcontractors EULEN at the factory redundant and replace them with EUROCEN non-union labour with no experience or qualifications. EUROCEN is the logistics division of the ADECCO Group of companies.

Their union the National Conferation of Labour (CNT) points out that the problems related to the work in ABB are also related to outsourcing in general. The workers who were employed through EULEN in fact worked for ABB and took orders from them, but they have a much lower salary and worse working conditions than regular ABB workers and ABB took no responsibility for them as an employer. There were serious breaches of health and safety and inadequate equipment provided. There is also the fact that the relevant collective agreements for the work they actually perform were not applied. Management's refusal to address these issues also led to the strike. First management responded by hiring scab labour from ADECCO. Then they fired all the strikers. By continuing to provide strikebreakers, ADECCO is Complicit in ABB's continued union repression at the factory where there have been a number of union victories over the last 2 years. The workers of the Cordoba factory in Spain are demanding what all workers deserve: fair pay, respect on the job, and a safe working environment. Austerity is providing employers in the public and private sectors alike with the excuse to attack our pay and working conditions. We must stand together—across borders, industries and trade unions—and fight back. Employment agencies have exploited us long enough. A win for workers at ABB, a giant multinational that operates in over 100 countries, will not only improve working conditions for Spanish workers, it will let employment agencies like ADECCO know that workers are willing to fight back against their unscrupulous practices. We demand that sacked strikers are re-instated, management talks with the workforce, and that ADECCO stop providing scab labour .

IT IS VESTED INTERESTS THAT ARE KILLING PEOPLE.

We should never lose sight of the fact that all this talk of "austerity cuts" has a human face. While those, the faceless ones, in expensive suits, sit in marble halls discussing how, where and how deep to cut at the social fabric of our society, the results among those without the expensive suits, you and I, the ordinary people, can be ill health, poverty, deprivation, mental health problems and even death. It is discussed politely on TV and radio and long winded economic articles appear in the mainstream media, all with a cold rationalism the belies the horror and hurt of the situation to most ordinary people. As the results of the polite decision makers policies grind on, our society changes, suicides rise dramatically, family relationships start to break down, hopelessness descends on youth, who see their future as a bleak unknown devoid of opportunity. It is not the "economy" that is killing people, it is a small group of human beings making decisions to protect their vested interests.

The powers that be would like to keep that veneer of politeness and cold discussion, but it can't last. The people are getting more anger by the day, across the developed world we are taking to the streets to vent that anger, and there is more to come, we will not be destroyed to save the wealth of the financial Mafia.

At approximately 7pm on Monday evening, 78-year old S.K. set himself alight with petrol at a parking lot in the town of Lefkada, in Western Greece. The man died on the spot.

This follows from a tremendous increase in suicides across Greece, and Crete in particular – where also, two days ago (on Saturday night) a homeless man died of the cold in the streets of the city of Chania.

Call it what you will, but it is corporate fascismin full frontal attack on the conditions of the ordinary people.Voting for this party or that party, is like choosing which end ofthe egg to crack first, the big end or the little end. You end upwith the same thing on your plate.

This system of corporate fascism can't be modified, repaired, orreformed, it can't be turned into a benevolent beast that will see tothe well being of the people. It is an elitist system where controlstays firmly in the hands of the super wealthy, themillionaire/billionaire parasites that sit nameless, in rooms inmarble halls shuffling their billions around the globe destroyingeconomies and countries in the pursuit of ever increasing wealth. SCHOOL OF AMERICAS - SCHOOL OF TORTURE.

We all know that the School of Americas, SOA, is a US government organisation for the export of torture and repression. It functions for the purpose of training forces of repressive regimes around the world in brutal methods of supressing political and public dissent. It is part of the US foreign policy of propping up repressive puppet governments that are compliant to the aims of American foreign policy. All this from the country that preaches democracy, but it is democracy at the end of a gun and only if it suits the American corporate empire.

For years groups of people have organised to try to shut the place down, they have faced brutallity, and imprisonment but still they come back. They see it as a cancer on the land, it has no place in any civilised country, it is the bedrock of government repression. One such case of over the top sentencing is that of Theresa Cusimano who has been sentenced to six months in Federal prison for peacably crossing the line to speak out against the SOA.

Thosewords adorn the wall inside the courtroom of Judge Stephen Hyles atthe Columbus courthouse. And there they remain, strong words thatring hollow in face of injustice, merely adornments. For her act ofpeacefully crossing the line at Fort Benning, Georgia - a misdemeanoroffense - a 6-month sentence was imposed on Theresa Cusimano. Thosewho train men with guns at the SOA/WHINSEC, those who created thosetorture manuals, have never had to defend their actions, yet Theresais being sentenced to six months in prison for nonviolently callingattention to the US military's role in the violence carried outagainst her sisters and brothers in the Americas.

TheresaCusimano wrote the following statement to Judge Stephen Hyles beforeher sentencing, telling him that his complicity goes on record todayas obstructing international justice and U.S. Rule of Law, and thatshe wished that he had the courage of Father Roy and the honor ofbeing a subversive.:

I believeit is generally accepted by the public that as a country gets richer,we should all be better off. After all, that is why the powers thatbe, keep telling us about the growth of our GDP, to let us know whomuch richer we are becoming. It is safe to say that over the yearsthe UK GDP has been growing steadily, with the exception of 2008/9,but suddenly we are told that we can't afford most of the things wetake for granted. Things like libraries, nursery classes, decentpensions, and a half decent social welfare system are now beyond ourreach. We are now being told that we have to accept wagecuts/freezes, work longer to get a smaller pension, cuts in socialbenefits, rising unemployment, while our kids education system isdecimated and privatised along with our National Health Service. ButI thought our GDP had been growing year on year for some considerabletime, with just the odd blip? Well it has, so where is all that extrawealth, who has the money? What has also been happening as our GDPkept growing, was that a larger share of the wealth was beingsyphoned upwards to an ever decreasing number of individuals. Thesalary gap just kept getting wider and wider, so must of that extrawealth from our ever growing GDP, (your effort and my effort) wasending up, not in the common pool, but was heading straight into thebank accounts of the ever dwindling little bunch of parasites. If allthose gains from the ever increasing GDP had been evenly spread inthe common good, infrastructure and welfare for example, would we befacing the same problems? It is really ironic that it is those whogained all that extra wealth from our ever growing GDP, who are nowtelling us that we can't afford all the most basic parts of a decentcivilised society.

Some difficult decisions will have to be made!!

Even a glance at such an economic system tells you that it isinefficient, wrong, immoral, unjust, and corrupt. It doesn't take anEinstein to come up with a better, fairer and more just system, basedon mutual aid, co-operation and sustainability, a system that sees tothe needs of all our people, instead of working, struggling andworrying, just to keep a bunch of millionaire/billionaire parasitesin the lap of luxury. Isn't it about time we sorted this lot out andstarted taking care of our own people?

CRUISE TO CRAP!!!

Have you ever watched those large cruise ships sailing in to port and thought, what beautiful constructions. I have always seen large passenger ships as things beauty. However over the years they have got larger and larger, and now they look more like very large floating hotels. Now I tend to see them as massive filthy contraptions for transporting pretty-pretty butterfly people around the world to flutter about on exotic islands. Then there is the other dimension to them, all that filth and sewage they dump in our oceans and sometimes not that far from shore.

The average cruise ship dumps approximately 21,000 pounds of untreated sewage every day, sometimes less than three miles from shore? Of course it is not just the sewage dumping that should concern us. Every single day, a single cruise ship can dump approximately one ton of garbage, 6,400 gallons of oily bilge water, and 25 pounds of batteries, fluorescent lights, medical wastes, and expired chemicals into our oceans. That's just one ship.

The pretty-pretty butterfly people that create all this sewage and waste don't in any way pay for the clean up, and don't seem to be too concerned about the problem, nor do the cruise companies pay anything towards the clean up, the oceans are to them, just a waste basin from which they make millions, floating the pretty-pretty butterfly people around.

The Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU) recently singled out AIDA and TUI, two German cruise lines, for being especially environmentally filthy. It's time for them to update their filtration systems to stop thoughtlessly spewing waste into our oceans. Poisoned oceans means poisoned fish and that affects you and I.

CAPITALISM = CHILD POVERTY.

Recently released figures show the shocking level of child poverty inScotland, these figures show that 13 Scottish councils have wardswhere more than 30% of children live in severe poverty. The worstareas are Glasgow, West of Scotland, Edinburgh, Dundee, Fife,Aberdeen and Stirling. A quick look at the map of Scotland tells youthat those areas just about take in practically all of Scotland'shigh population areas. The over all child poverty level for the wholeof Scotland is more than 20%. Bearing in mind that every childliving in poverty is in a home with at least one adult living inpoverty, it is a damning picture.

Labour social justice spokesman Drew Smith said work was the bestroute out of poverty. Adding, "That is why as well as investmentin the vital early years and improving childcare, we need a renewedfocus on creating jobs and implementing a Living Wage for Scotland." What a load of crap, when has capitalism ever paid a living wage toall its workers? Dear Mr Smith, that's not how the system works. Whyare people in poverty, because they can't access their needs. Whycan't they access their needs, because we have created a systemwhereby the people's needs are priced so as to allow an army ofparasites to live in luxury. Our system doesn't produce for the needsof the people, it produces for the wealth of the shareholders. Thetwo tend to be incompatible. Also this angle of work being the answer shifts the blame onto those who are unable to find work. It's their own fault, if only they were working they would be poverty free. History tells us different.

Onhearing the figures Scottish Liberal Democrat education spokesmanLiam McArthur said: "In light of this report, and the effectthat unemployment has on levels of poverty, it is more clear thanever that effective collaboration at all levels of government isrequired to help ensure the right conditions for creating jobs andreducing unemployment in our communities." More crap, when hascapitalism in any country in the world every produced a society whereall were employed and all had a living wage? More of blame the unemployed for the poverty in the country.

Take two of the worst areas of severe poverty in Scotland, Govan,where I once worked in the shipyards, as part of the Clyde, it wasonce the shipbuilding capital of the world and Springburn, where Istill live, once the steam locomotive manufacturing centre of theBritish Empire. In those days, lots of employment, but also lots ofpoverty. In this society the two are not incompatible. However, it was with “effective collaboration at alllevels of government” that seen to the demise of both theseindustries. See Upper Clyde Work-in. Now Govan has a child povertylevel of 38% and Springburn has the worst in Scotland with a criminallevel 52% of children living in severe poverty. Think of that, morethan half the children in an area in the UK living in severe poverty,that's 21^st century capitalism in the developed world, nota third world country.

Of course anybody who is interested in what our society is like willknow that poverty has always been part of capitalism. The system isnot in any way shape or form fashioned to see to people's needs, itis not a needs based system, profit is the only game in town. Allthis crap about getting people into employment, being the answer topoverty, is just sound bites for public consumption, in the hope ofgetting the mouth-piece elected to a cushy job. They don't believe itthemselves, if they do, then they are more stupid than I have alwaysstated.

Child poverty of these levels is an indictment against any system, itis condemning future generations to a stunted development, a waste ofthe future potential of a people. All this just because we are toldthat capitalism is the only route available, when common sense tellsus otherwise. Mutual aid, co-operation, sustainability and developinga needs based society is there waiting for the people to take it up.The evidence has never been more glaring, the need has never been greater.

Although it will be particularly important to have strong support for Barbara at the Trial Diet scheduled for the following week, support at the Intermediate Diet is also important and could help to make sure that the court takes Barbara's case seriously.

Amongthis splurge of meaningless words was the statement, “What we needis a more responsible and better capitalism,” This man believesthat somehow good capitalism has lost its way over the last 30 yearsor so. You know the kind of capitalism he is talking about, the sortthat always pays its workers a good living wage, always gives themthe best of working conditions and always adheres to the bestpossible health and safety regulations. Like the coal mine owners ofthe past for example. This so called politician, obviously isoblivious of working class struggle over the years of the good oldcapitalism days. Lock-outs, mass dismissals, wage cuts and atrociousworking conditions, risking life and limb, all for the benefit of thegood capitalist. For the benefit of this ignorant individual, therenever has been an era of the good capitalism. Capitalism is a systemof exploitation, a system of getting the many to work as hard aspossible for a little as possible to enrich the few. Those, who likethe Mr. Chuka Umunna, who somehow hold this totally irrational beliefthat, capitalism is a benevolent system that through a few greedyindividuals has been tainted, should read their history. Not thehistory of this half-wit prince marrying this other equallyhalf-witted princess by arrangement of their power hungry parents inthe hope of safeguarding the lands they had stolen. Rather he should have alook at the miners strike and general strike of 1926, the 40 hour strike of 1919, andthe brutal repression of both, or perhaps the dock strike of 1911 in which two Liverpool strikers were shot dead by the troops onthe streets of Liverpool. This is the capitalism of old, the “goodold days”, that Mr Chuka Umunna hungers after, the good capitalismof poverty wages, long hours and working conditions that caused earlydeath. Each time one of these idiots opens their big mouth to vent anempty brain, it reinforces my belief in anarchism as the only hopefor humanity.

       More than a dozen Greek trade unionists face prison on Tuesday.   If you're a trade unionist fighting to ensure that workers don't pay the price for the global financial crisis they didn't create, 2012 looks like it will be a challenging year.

      On Thursday 24 November 2011, the Greek police arrested Nikos Photopoulos, President of the power workers' union GENOP/DEI, along with more than a dozen of his fellow trade unionists. They will appear in court on Tuesday 10 January 2012 to face charges that could see them jailed for up to five years.

     They were protesting against part of the Greek austerity measures - the cutting off of power to people unable to pay a new property tax, levied regardless of income or wealth and added to all electricity bills. The new tax is just the most recent 'austerity' action by the Greek government. The abolition of the national minimum wage and the lowering of employer-paid taxes are next.

     Please take a moment to send a message to the Greek Prime Minister in support of the campaign Greek trade union confederation GSEE, which is calling for the charges to be dropped.

The winter is closing in but still the Arab Spring bursts through the concrete like some unstoppable rose, spreading seeds across the globe. This Italian puppet ofthe bond market, stated, “Sacrifices are necessary to ensure thefuture of our young people ---”. What he fails to mention isthat the future of a generation of our young people has already beensacrificed because of the policies of his financial Mafia. Thefinancial conditions in our society are not something that justhappened and therefore we just have to get on with it. They are theresult of deliberate policies of the powerful financial Mafia thatcontrols the political apparatus of the developed world. Thepolitical class of this capitalist system are the puppets andimplementers of that Mafia's policies. If there is anybody out therewho still believes that we have democracy in the developed world theyshould take a look at what the various political partiesoffer, it is all a cruel illusion. They all offer the same package, they may vary in colour, pace anddegree, but it is a package that favours themultimillionaires/billionaires of the financial world. All theparties advocate policies that will guarantee that the bond marketsdon't lose out. The well being of the population is secondary to thefinancial well being of that cabal of multimillionaires/billionaires.What we have is a system whereby a small privileged group of extremelywealthy individuals, by means of that wealth, control the politicaland business structures of the developed world. Working class history is a history of struggle, and along the way there have been some defeats, but there has also been lots of tremenndous victories. 75 years ago in America, workers took on the mighty auto industry and won. Just one of the many battles that should give us inspirtion as we continue the struggle today. It is not a new struggle, it is the same struggle, a struggle for a decent life and the right to shape our society.

THE FLINT OCCUPATION.

"On this day, December 30th, in 1936 -- 75 years ago today -- hundreds of workers at the General Motors (GM) factories in Flint, Michigan, took over the facilities and occupied them for 44 days. My uncle was one of them. The workers couldn't take the abuse from the corporation any longer. Their working conditions, the slave wages, no vacation, no health care, no overtime -- it was do as you're told or get tossed onto the curb.
"So on the day before New Year's Eve, emboldened by the recent re-election of Franklin Roosevelt, they sat down on the job and refused to leave. They began their occupation in the dead of winter. GM cut off the heat and water to the buildings. The police tried to raid the factories several times, to no avail. Even the National Guard was called in. But the workers held their ground, and after 44 days, the corporation gave in and recognized the UAW as the representative of the workers. It was a monumental historical moment as no other major company had ever been brought to its knees by their employees. Workers were given a raise to a dollar an hour -- and successful strikes and occupations spread like wildfire across the country."

ANARCHY - ANARCHISM - WHAT'S YOUR IDEA?

I suppose at the start of the year and claiming to be an "anarchist" and advocater of "anarchy" I should make it a wee bit clearer what I personally mean when I use these two words. I know there are a multitude of meanings out there and I don't state these as the difinitive word on either, just what I personally mean when I use them.

Anarchy -

Without(an-) ruler (archos). To my way of thinking this doesn't mean, afree-for-all. My interpretation is, I am responsible for ALL myactions and accept ALL the consequences of those actions. It is afreedom that comes with one basic human responsibility, you governyourself, instead of abdicating to some externalauthoritarian coercive group or individual, be it dictator,president, monarch, religion or government, In essence, no Gods, no Masters.

Anarchism -

A political theory advocating theelimination of governments, also theelimination of authority over any individual, be it religious,gender or race. Society based on mutual aid, free association andvoluntary co-operation.

I think, together, these two definitions are not a bad way to live. Certainly an excellent place to start.

It would be nice to know what is your personal interpretation of these two words.

PROBLEMS WITH GDP.

It always fascinated me when I learnt the the UK GDP climbed during to years of the housing boom, simply because the value of the house were rising, not that there were more house built. It seemd odd that the country had "X" number of houses and the country's GDP was "Y" some time later with the same amount of bricks and mortar, windows and doors the country's GDP had risen to "W", all because the value put on those bricks and mortar went up. So by producing nothing and sitting doing nothing you just got richer and purchased on the strength of this illusionary wealth. And our learned university economists thought this was great and would last for ever. Ah, the wonders of capitalism.

Thenew year for most here in the UK will mean more of the same as lastyear, “austerity cuts” price increases and rising unemployment.Those who still have a job and have to travel will be hit again onthe 2^ndJanuary as rail fares are set to rise by an “average” of 6%, nodoubt making some think, “is the job really worth it”. If theytake a look at what we in the UK have to pay to travel on the railnetwork and compare it with what those in the rest of Europe pay,then it might be easier to answer that question.

The followingeye-popping information is taken from an article in the Evening Times30 December 2011.

TEN times bigger!!!

    SOME UK railcommuters facing 6% average fare rises next week are already payingalmost 10 times more for season tickets than their Europeancounterparts.
     Figures releasedtoday show the price of a 2011 season ticket from Glasgow to Falkirk,which is around 22 miles, would be £1956. A ticket from Woking inSurrey to London, which is the same distance, including Tube travelin the capital, is £3268.
     Yet a similar22-mile journey from Velletri to Rome costs Italian season ticketholders just £336.17, say the Campaign for Better Transport (CBT).Similar journeys of around 21-24 miles in other European countriesreveal that rail travellers on the continent are paying far less fortheir trains.
     According to the CBTfigures, which include the equivalent of multi-modal travel ticketson each city’s underground systems, an annual season ticket for the24-mile journey from Ballancourt-sur-Essonne to Paris costs £924.66.The cost of a season ticket on the 21-mile Strausberg to Berlin routeis £705.85, while the 22-mile Collado-Villalba to Madrid trip costsSpanish season ticket holders £653.74.
     From January 2, UKregulated fares, which include season tickets, are rising by anaverage of 6%. The average for all tickets is 5.9%. And theGovernment still plans annual rises of RPI inflation plus 3% forJanuary 2013 and January 2014.
      CBT’s publictransport campaigner Sophie Allain said: “Even we were shocked byhow much more the UK ticket was in comparison to our Europeancounterparts. “If the Government is serious about promotingeconomic growth it must look at reducing planned fare rises.”

So 2011runs out and 2012 pops its head above the parapet. We can discuss the“what ifs” of the issues of 2011 but the over riding problem willbe addressing the real problem that faces us in 2012. We have reacheda position in the development of the world where our affairs are nolonger controlled at a local level. We can organise at that locallevel but what influences our lives most will be decide by a smallgroup of extremely wealthy and powerfulbillionaires/multimillionaires. With their trillions and billions ofDollars/Euros/Pounds they blackmail countries and threaten economiesin the process of protecting and increasing their wealth. Never inour history has so much power rested in the hands of so few. Neverhave so few held sway over the lives of so many millions of theearth's population. Their financial calculations will determine thepoverty or otherwise of those millions. Their drive to hold on to,increase and protect that wealth and power will shape the world welive in, will determine what industries will be developed, what partsof the planet will be decimated, what population will be sacrificedon their alter of greed.

Wecan survey the array of political parties offering their variousmagic potions, all promising to bring prosperity and happiness toall. However none of them will be able to run against the power ofthe multi-millionaire/billionaire cabal, all of them will play thegame according to the rules set down by their financial masters therich cabal. On a world wide scale, social services will be cut,public assets will be sold off to the wealthy and powerful, moneywill be poured into the coffers of that faceless Mafia. All thepolitical parties will comply but put their own colour of paint onthe box but it will be the same kit of tools in the box.

Ouronly hope of salvaging our world from the hands of the vampire squidorganisation is to ignore their rule book and write our own. Stoptrying to implement change through the political system as it is setup, by-pass the party political system, it stinks, is corrupt and inthe pockets of the financial Mafia. We must organise at grass rootslevel and across borders. Capital has no nationality, it isinternational, to fight it we have to be the same, an internationalgrass roots movement. As long as we enter into debate with thecorrupt financial system we hand it legitimacy. It has no legitimacy,no group has the legitimacy to push millions into a world ofdeprivation in the midst of plenty, merely to further their ownwealth and power. We are governed by consent, we can and have theright, to withdraw that consent, and the need to withdraw thatconsent has never been more pressing. The future of all generationsto come and the planet itself depends on how we address the problemof a world controlled by a small corrupt and greed gang who are blindto the disasters of their self-seeking policies.

DO A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL, AND WHAT DO YOU GET???

Itbecomes sickening, to see the ordinary workers being attacked byright-wing ideology, come out fighting with tremendous solidarity andthen be “sold-out” by the well paid union bosses. Time and timeagain we have seen the workers come out prepared to fight for theirconditions and time and time again the union bosses have done a“deal” where the workers get nothing or at most a pittance. Thislatest “deal” over pensions means that the workers, who came outin their hundreds of thousands on Nov 30 to show their resistance tothe government's pension plans, will now be forced to accept what thegovernment wanted in the first place. Pay more into your pension,work longer to get it and end up with less. Unless of course theworkers ignore their unions, organise and continue the fight. Thegrass roots are against this pension “deal” and it will be up tothem to continue the fight. They could take a few lessons from The Clyde Workers Committee and keep control of the situation by means ofgrass roots organisation.

History tells us that the workers cannotrely on the well paid union bosses when it looks like a real fight,the union bosses have too much to lose, fat salaries and perks, whichno doubt will include a decent pension. When ever there is a groundswell from the ordinary people the unions do the governments bidding,they don't want to upset the apple cart. We can go back over thehistory of the working class struggles and see the pattern. One ofthe most galling examples of workers eager to continue the fight butbeing “sold-out” by the union bosses was of course the 1926 General Strike. As far as the union bosses are concerned, it seemsthat nothing has changed since then.

He'll avoid any form of legislation that might hurt thefinancial leeches and prevent them from milking the system for all itis worth. He'll screw Europe and tell them to bugger off. Hisreasoning, well the “City” accounts for 10% of the total UKincome. I wonder what proportion of our national income was producedby our shipyards, heavy and light engineering, steel works, and ourcoal mines, etc. and what was done to protect them? Well since theyhave all gone, what ever it was was not enough. Even with that lotgone, the “City” is only 10% of our total national income, whatabout the other 90%, where is that and what special protection willthe Cameron parasite come up with for that. We have to accept that this system is under the total control of the financial parasitesthat shift their billions and trillions around, black-mailing countryafter country, making sure that no government has the power tointerfere with their money making scams.

I have previously writtenabout the coup taking place in Europe, first in Greece, where thethin veil of illusion of democracy was removed and a “technocrat” put in toreplace the elected Prime Minister.
