Fiddlers And Crooks, The Lot Of Them.

Well we all knew that Jeremy Hunt, the Health Secretary, was a fiddler, remember his expenses scandal? Well now the Courts have ruled he broke the law on another matter.
This from 38 Degrees:

This is HUGE news. Today, we got the verdict in the court case against health secretary Jeremy Hunt, which 38 Degrees members helped to pay for.
It's the result we had all hoped for: the judge ruled that Jeremy Hunt acted illegally. He's been ordered to scrap his plan to cut A&E and maternity services at Lewisham Hospital, south London. [1]
This is fantastic news for the people of Lewisham. But it's also great news for the rest of us. If Jeremy Hunt had got away with this in Lewisham, no hospital would have been safe.
When the Save Lewisham Hospital campaign decided to take Jeremy Hunt to court, thousands of us from all across the UK stepped in to help. Together, chipping in whatever we could afford, we raised the £20,000 they needed to launch their legal challenge. [2]
It's not often that ordinary people come together to take the government to court. That was an impressive achievement in itself. But to win – and to prove that Jeremy Hunt is breaking the law – is simply amazing.
There will be so much more to do if we're going to stop and reverse this government's damaging attacks on our health service. In Lewisham, there's a chance the government may appeal the court's decision. Everywhere else, there are cuts, privatisation, and low care standards for us to battle against.
Today is a great win - but the Save our NHS campaign will need to go on tomorrow!
But let's take a little bit of time to celebrate first. Here are two ways to toast this success:
     1. Raise a glass this evening to all the people who made this breakthrough possible. The 38 Degrees members who donated. All the other 38 Degrees members who are involved in the Save Our NHS campaign. The brilliant local campaigners in the Save Lewisham Hospital campaign who have worked tirelessly for months. The crack legal team at Leigh Day solicitors. And the wonderful local NHS staff who've just kept going despite their hospital being under threat.
      2. Forward this e-mail to any friends or contacts who could do with a little bit of inspiration. Sometimes it can feel like it's impossible for us to make a difference. Today's success proves that when enough of us work together, we really can. People power works!
Here's what Dr Louise Irvine, chair of the Save Lewisham Hospital campaign, has to say:

"We're delighted by the judgement and the support we've got from Lewisham and beyond, especially from 38 Degrees members who donated to make today's victory possible and helped give us the confidence to stand up to Jeremy Hunt in court".

Thank you for everything you do,

David, Susannah, Ian, Travis, Blanche and the 38 Degrees team

PS: If you're on Facebook or Twitter why not celebrate there too?

Showcase Glasgow, Hide The Learning Disabilities.

We are on the final preparations from the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, 2014. We have been informed that this is an opportunity to showcase Glasgow. There will be journalists and TV cameras everywhere, well not exactly everywhere. Our lords and masters in the Kremlin in George Square will not want to showcase the demolition of the Accord Centre in the East End of Glasgow. This was a centre for young people with severe learning difficulties which has been demolished to make way for a bus park for the games. Hardly shows a caring attitude from the cabal called the Glasgow Council, certainly one that they will not want to showcase, but one that we, the ordinary people should certainly shout from the rooftops.

This is a transcript of an extensive Glasgow Games Monitor 2014 interview with carers from the East End Carers group/Save the Accord campaign. The Accord centre was a day care centre for young adults with severe learning difficulties that has now been demolished to make way for a bus park for the Commonwealth Games 2014. No adequate replacement has since been made available. The East End of Glasgow currently has no stable and sustainable facilities for learning disabled people. Carers and users from the Accord centre describe in detail the history of their campaign, providing an important corrective to the misinformation produced by Glasgow City Council. They also voice the negative impact of ‘modernisation’ policies of ‘self-directed support’ (SDS) and personalisation on service users and their carers, and their personal thoughts on the supposed benefits of urban regeneration due to the Games and the Clyde Gateway development projects.

The Innate Desire To Be Free.

In spite of the state brutality, the people of Greece are still battling to gain control over their lives. Recently, the now fascist government of Greece, shut down ERT, the national TV broadcasting station, without so much as dialogue or comment. In a direct action of defiance, the staff with supporters occupied the building and supporters massed round the building to show solidarity with the occupation. The broadcasting antenna had been disconnected, but on July 29, some technicians and supporters went to Imittos, the mountain area where the antenna is based, and in solidarity with the occupation, re-connected the antenna. This allowed the ERT to broadcast an analogue signal to the Greater Athens area.
Shortly after this the riot police and DELTA arrived at the antenna and beat up and detained some of those who were still on site at Imittos. They were taken to the police headquarters on Alexandras Avenue, where a large crowd have gathered in solidarity with those beaten and detained.
Greece is not doing anything different from any other state apparatus when ever it feels threatened. It is only through propaganda, control, intimidation and repression that the state can survive. People will always strive for control over their own lives, this will always come into conflict with the state, whose control will be administered in various methods. First the usual propaganda, through the education system and the mainstream media. When this fails, off come the gloves and it is police brutality, intimidation and repression, then troops on the streets. This conflict can only be resolved when the people give up their desire for freedom, our the people abolish the state and all its apparatus.

The End Of Leaders.

From Tunisia to Egypt, from Greece to Spain, from Turkey to Brazil, people are realising that the leaderless revolution, and therefore the leaderless society is possible. More and more they move without the dictate of the party line, more and more they are aware of the failings and horrors of our leader directed history. It is that realisation that will bring justice and freedom. All this bodes well for the future, the kettle takes a while to boil.

An interesting analysis from COUNTERPUNCH:

"-----Bowing down to the need for leaders, “an” (read, one) ideology, and a common platform would obstruct the most important line of growth for these revolutions, which is self-organization. A prerequisite for self-organization is that the outcomes cannot be predetermined as they are when we all have to toe a party line. Once most people know how to take the initiative in their own lives and put their plans into action, once the practice of self-organization intensifies to move beyond making abstract decisions, people will be able to create new social relations and collectively organize the material aspects of their lives—how to feed, clothe, house, heal, and generally provide for themselves. If this happens, leaders will be obsolete and we can begin to earnestly talk about revolution.----"

Brazil, A Month Of Rebellion, Now Everything Is Fine!!!

Mass protests are now an everyday occurrence across the globe, as the people try to shake off the shackles of this exploitative, repressive, corrupt capitalist system. Some, we get distorted details of from that babbling brook of bullshit, the mainstream media, others we hear very little. During the month of June the whole of Brazil exploded in mass rebellion, there were a few mainstream broadcasts of images, but no real detail of what was going on. A month later and as far as the babbling brook of bullshit is concerned, it's all over and forgotten. What really went on? what is still happening? Are the people now back doing their law abiding duties? A country explodes in rebellion and a month later all is forgotten? So the powers that be would have you believe.

Obviously a vicious terrorist, but which one?

There is a very detailed article from Crimethink:
"-----The anticipation building up to the fifth major demonstration was intense. It was called for June 17. The media was buzzing. GLobo—the biggest TV company of Brazil and one of the world’s biggest—interrupted their programming to disseminate news about the demonstrations. Initially, the corporate media depicted the movement as a bunch of criminals; then, when it gained momentum, they began to make a distinction between peaceful protesters and vandals in an attempt to marginalize the more radical sectors.
Yet once again, the demonstration assumed a radical character. Large banks, chain stores, and department stores were beautified with graffiti; protesters nearly overran the headquarters of the state government of São Paulo, the Palácio dos Bandeirantes; busses were vandalized…

When You're A Non-Person.

Mohammad Hassan, a migrant from Afghanistan, had been detained in the concentration camp of Corinth since September 2012. Despite the fact that he repeatedly complained about the pain he was suffering, his pleas were completely ignored and he received no medical help. Only on July 2, Mohammad was finally transferred to the Sismanogleio hospital in Athens. He died at the hospital on July 27.
The doctors had diagnosed him with a respiratory infection, which would point at pneumonia or another similar infection.

Glasgow ATOS Picket And Photos.

This month's picket outside the Glasgow offices of ATOS was held on Friday July 26th. The picket was a poignant affair as the assembled group held a minutes silence for one of ATOS's latest victims Elenore Tatton, a 39 year mum who died shortly after being assessed as fit for work.

The number of ATOS victims who have died shortly after being assessed fit for work is well over a thousand and growing monthly. This is not a series of unfortunate accidents, this is the result of an ideological process being driven by those greedy parasites devoid of compassion, who sit in the Westminster Houses of Hypocrisy and Corruption, and who follow the dictate of their masters in the financial Mafia.

The whole process of ATOS is an attack on the weakest and most vulnerable in our society, it is part and parcel of the plundering of the public purse, for no other reason than to satisfy the world's gang of corrupt banksters. It's called balancing the books, but the figures are written in the blood of the sick and vulnerable from our communities. Are we counting the dead in this war against our people?

This video is the case of another killing at the hands of ATOS, its victims are easy to find.

A Daily Life Of Repression.

On the evening of Sunday, July 14, in the old city of Hebron two Palestinian children named Mohammed and Ahmed, both aged 13 years old, were arrested. Though joining a wave of child arrests in Hebron during the last weeks, the arrests of the two boys stand out because of the massive number of soldiers and police actively participating.

Glasgow Against Fascism.

Sat 27 July - Pollokshields

United against Racism and Fascism Rally

11am Square Park, corner of Kenmure St and Melville Street at 11am, close to Pollokshields Library, Glasgow.
The SDL have been refused permission to march through Pollokshields on Saturday by the Council's Processions Sub-Committee.
It seems almost certain that the SDL will still come to hold a "static" demo. Whether or not they show, the Celebrate Multiculturalism and Diversity Rally is still on this Saturday at 11am.
Support for the Rally is building with campaigners bringing banners from Dundee, Dumfries and Edinburgh.
It's very important that as many anti-racists as possible come to Pollokshields on Saturday to show that the SDL are not welcome in Pollokshields, Glasgow or Scotland.

Cause Meek Inherits Earth --- Six feet Deep.

Sometimes the old ones are the best ones, this was the 80's and it is even more relevant to day. I picked it up from Polizeros.

--> Video games train the kids for war.
Army chic in high-fashion stores.
Law and order’s done their job.
Prisons filled while the rich still rob.

Assassination politics.
Violence rules within’ our nation’s midst.
Ignorance is their power tool.
You’ll only know what they want you to know.

The television cannot lie.
Controlling media with smokescreen eyes.
Nuclear politicians picture show.
The acting’s lousy but the blind don’t know.

They scare us all with threats of war.
So we forget just how bad things are.
You taste the fear when you’re all alone.
They gonna git’cha when you’re on your own.

The silence of conspiracy.
Slaughtered on the altar of apathy.
You gotta wake up from your sleep.

Greece, Breathtaking Deprivation.

Greece, a land of contrast, stunning scenery, abject deprivation, unbelievable sunsets, 62% unemployment among the young, beautiful beaches, an angry population.

Greece has become a symbol of the western world’s retrocession on all levels during the last few years. Inspired by the campaign “Promote Greece” that aims to show Greece’s nice face to the world, we aim to go a step further: to stop camouflaging the misery of Greek society with beautiful beaches and breathtaking sunsets. To stop lying about Greek hospitality. To disconnect modern Greek democracy from its ancient roots.
Economy is not the main problem; democracy is!
The real problem is about:
- how political elites have taken unpopular and undemocratic measures.
- the thousands of lay-offs of public servants, in order to meet Troika’s instructions and get the next loan, sorry “rescue package”.
- how the rulers pass new law amendments that will bring more misery in society, with compendious processes without even discussing them in the Parliament.

The Addict As Scapegoat.

As the Greek state continues to follow the dictate of the corporate/financial Mafia in its drive to create sweatshop Europe, the health of the people continues to spiral downwards. Addiction has mushroomed and the facilities to treat addiction have seen the budgets all but disappear. In the cities of Greece addicts are herded and exposed to humiliation, the addict is another scapegoat to be blamed for society's ills.
This is an excerpt from an interesting article, in X-pressed, by Lena Theodoropoulou, on addiction in Greece:
On the 6th and 7th of March 2013, the Greek police, in cooperation with the Centre of Control and Disease Prevention (ΚΕΕΛΠΝΟ), detained 132 drug addicts and forcibly transferred them from the centre of Athens to the Immigration detention centre of Amygdaleza. There, following the orders of the National Centre for Health Operations (ΕΚΕΠΥ), the doctors forced the addicts to undergo medical examination, in order to publish statistics on the spread of the HIV virus in these populations. According to the government, the drug addicts were taken care of and the doctors offered them sandwiches and juices (!) before letting them go. It still remains unknown how these people went from Amygdaleza back to the city centre, from where they had been violently removed. The operation was named “Thetis” and, according to the police statement, “these operations will continue in order to tackle the drug problem and improve the city centre”. Consequently, it looks like the police, besides its original oppressive role, have now assumed a new ‘sanitary’ task: the regulation of public health.
The reaction of rehabilitation centres and other anti-drug organisations was immediate, denoting the obvious illegality of such an operation as the groundless arrest and mandatory registration of personal and medical data of addicts; an absolute violation of basic human rights, going against international agreements, the Constitution and the laws. While the state is working on statistics,

Glasgow's Dirty Washing.

Just a reminder, 11:00am. Saturday, August 3, 2013, Glasgow Green is the opportunity to vent your feelings of disgust for the way the Glasgow City Council shows contempt for you and your communities. See Crook In Suits for more information. This event could be one of Glasgow's biggest displays of public disgust for the political class, done with an element of fun for all the family, but only if you are willing to come on down and take part. There is only about ten days left to get organised and paint up all that dirty washing, so get in touch, get involved, show how you feel about the way the Glasgow City Council rips you off.
