Subterfuge.

Wars are games played by capitalist states to enhance their power, there is no thought given to the thousands of deaths and mass destruction that always follow wars. As a matter of fact destruction is good for capitalism, it means government money, public tax money, being handed to corporate giants to rebuild a country., so the bankers and financial mafia and their corporate friends, see wars as a wonderful asset and aid to corporate growth.
At the moment the dominant capitalist power is America, but it sees the dominance being threatened by other growing economies, so draws its sabre and starts to scare its competitors into submission or provoke them into a brutal war, in which it will draw in all its vassal states, of which the UK is one, for physical support to give it the stamp of legitimacy .
This is what is happening at the moment with America's rivals, China and Russia. All the lies and subterfuge about human rights and defending democracy are publicity stunts to get the public behind them in their brutal savagery against the people of another country. We the ordinary people of this country and it's so called enemies can never gain from these conflicts of capital, these savage manoeuvres for control of markets and resources in the quest for ever increasing profit and power for the few.

The following is  statement from Stop The War Coalition:

The British government and its militarily is playing very dangerous games. Earlier this week there was a critical military incident in the Black Sea in which a British war ship was pushed back as it encroached on disputed waters in the Black Sea. We released the following statement:
"Stop the War condemns the provocative decision for the UK destroyer HMS Defender to sail into disputed waters in the Black Sea near the Crimea. HMS Defender sailed just 12 miles off the Crimean coast, despite warnings from the Russian forces that they regard these as Russian waters. Moscow’s defence ministry said a patrol ship fired warning shots towards the destroyer and a jet dropped bombs in the path of HMS Defender.
The UK government has played down events and denied such a military incident, but Jonathan Beale, a BBC journalist who was on the destroyer said that the ship was indeed harassed by the Russian military. It is clear that the crew of the Defender knew that their action was likely to cause a dangerous incident. Beale reported that, ‘the crew were already at action stations as they approached the southern tip of Russian-occupied Crimea. Weapons systems on board the Royal Navy destroyer had already been loaded.’
UK government sources have confirmed that the ship’s action was deliberate, saying that ‘it was not there to pick a fight but to make a point’. In recent weeks the US and its allies have ramped up their intervention in Ukraine, inflaming an already tense situation which could erupt into a shooting war at any time.
The British government’s use of a navy destroyer to back up US brinkmanship is completely irresponsible. It is a dangerous act of aggression that has nothing to do with defence or security. We call on the government to end its support and participation in NATOs provocations against Russia."

Tomorrow we're marching alongside PSC, Friends of al-Aqsa, CND, MAB and Palestinian Forum on the Palestine, Peace & Anti-War Bloc at the People's Assembly National Demonstration. Join us.

We will be demanding fair pay for key workers and an end to the billions being spent on weapons and war. While refusing to give nurses and other frontline workers the pay rise they deserve the government announced a massive £16.5bn increase in defence spending. Priorities must change.

Be part of this vital demonstration on Saturday and demand freedom for Palestine, Welfare not Warfare and Nurses not Nukes.

Mega Prisons.

The UK state has announced a new building program of four super-mega prisons, one at Wellingborough will cost approximately £253 million, add the cost of the others and you have a fat load of taxpayers money to lock up its citizens. Prisons, new or old, large or small, or mega-prison, they are all brutal places of repression and intimidation, a legacy from a bye-gone era, they are the states front line defence of power and privilege, a warning to those who would dare to make any attempt to alter this system of exploitation, injustice and inequality. There is no place in any civilised society for locking people up in cages under duress and intimidation. All of us will only be free when we finally pull down the last few bricks of the last prison.

Please let us know any other access needs you have by emailing info@cape-campaign.org The demonstration will start at 2pm to allow people to travel there from across the UK. There will be speeches from campaigns fighting police violence, prisons and detention.
Why:
The Government are planning to build a 1440 bed mega-prison at the site of HMP Full Sutton. It will lock up thousands of people for years to come if built.
MP Full Sutton has a long legacy of violence and racism. Officers act with impunity in the rural prison with beatings, racist abuse and violence as common occurrences.
Prison officers recently attacked Dwayne, a Black Muslim man held in the segregation unit. Dwayne was severely beaten by 4 white officers in a racist attack. He was left vomiting and dizzy in a cell covered in blood, denied medical treatment and access to a lawyer. His applications to have photos taken of his injuries have been refused by officers. It was three days until the prison staff cleaned the blood from his cell.
The prison is holding Kevan Thakrar in solitary confinement in the prison’s segregation unit. Kevan is a long term prisoner who has been campaigning for his freedom since 2008 when he was wrongly convicted due to systemic racism, ID parades and police corruption. Kevan was convicted under the racist Joint Enterprise Doctrine and the prison has repeatedly acted with violent retribution where he has tried to defend himself. Learn more about his case here: justiceforkevan.org
Kevan has been held in a dirty punishment cell with no electricity since the middle of April 2021. This demonstration is a demand to get him transferred out of the prison.
HMP Full Sutton is also the site of one of the country’s Close Supervision Centres. These are ‘prisons within prisons’, the UK equivalent of the USA’s ‘Supermax’ prisons. They are the highest security and most repressive prison units within the country, where prisoners are held in solitary confinement in an extremely controlled environment for long periods of time. Kevan Thakrar was placed in the CSC system after he defended himself against a racist attack by prison guards in 2010.
Kevan’s case and the broader CSC system have recently been the focus of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. They wrote: “…we express our grave concern at the indefinite and prolonged detention of Mr. Thakrar in what appears to be conditions of solitary confinement. Both in this individual case and in terms of general policy, we are particularly concerned at the reported use of prolonged or indefinite solitary confinement in Close Supervision Centres, thus predictably inflicting severe pain or suffering amounting to cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment, or even torture.”

WE ARE ONE.

Saturday October 1st. was probably the wettest day for some considerable time, the morning started with torrential rain and slowly modified to monsoon type downpour before turning to heavy rain for the rest of the afternoon. In spite of this, thousands felt angry enough to march the couple of miles from the Glasgow Green, through the city to Kelvingrove Park. A long slow colourful snake of people slithered their way through Glasgow's wet, semi-flooded streets in cheerful and noisy fashion. The march, against cuts to public services and the attack on public sector workers, was the first of many planned for the coming months.

What we have to realise is that what this government is embarking on is the biggest and most savage attack in living memory, on the living standards of the people of this country. Under such circumstances there is no alternative but to defend ourselves and fight back with the same savageness and determination as this cabal of corporate fascists.  There is no law against self defence, when you are attacked you have the right to defend yourself. This millionaire government and its corporate bed-fellows are well organised and will be ruthless in their endeavour to privatise everything and to transfer all public assets to their millionaire friends in the corporate world. We must be better organised and even more ruthless than our attacker, if we wish to defeat this unbridled onslaught.

We are not alone in this growing self defence, across Europe there have been mass demonstrations and occupations, from Greece to France, from Spain to Italy, Portugal and Ireland, it has now spread across the Atlantic. Today is the seventh day of continual occupation of Wall St. in New York with 5,000 filling the area on Friday, and for the last three days the central square in Los Angelos has been occupied. We are one.

We are governed by consent, we can and have the right to withdraw that consent, the system is corrupt, unjust and cannot work for the benefit of the majority of the people, so the majority of the people have the right to destroy it, and in its place create a system that sees to the needs of all our people, a system based on co-operation, mutual aid and sustainability, free from the greed of the profit motive. We have the right and the responsibility to start that creation process now. We owe it to our children and our grandchildren. We start now or we leave a heritage of repression and deprivation to those who follow.

WAR = TERRORISM.

WAGING WAR ABROAD AND WAR ON PUBLIC SERVICES AT HOME.
An appeal from Stop the War Coalition.

The war in Libya will soon have cost the UK two billion pounds. We were told at the start of the NATO intervention that the cost to Britain would be "tens, not hundreds of millions". The war is in its seventh month and British planes have flown around one in five of all the bombing raids on the country, destroying or damaging more than 900 sites. The £2 billion spent on Libya comes on top of £5 billion a year on the war in Afghanistan and the £2 billion a year spent maintaining the Trident nuclear missile system.

Just as we're being told there is no alternative to deep cuts in the NHS, in disability allowances, pensions, and every area of the public services, £9 billion is being spent on two wars opposed by the majority of the British public, and on maintaining the militarily pointless Trident system. Britain is facing its worst economic crisis since the 1930s, but David Cameron in his speech last week to the United Nations, called for yet more war, adopting from Tony Blair the justification of "humanitarian intervention" for western powers to wage war wherever they please. (SEE: http://bit.ly/rk11ZC).

It will be the main purpose of the Antiwar Mass Assembly on 8 October (see below) to mobilise as big a display of popular opposition as possible to this government's policy of spending billions on wars abroad while waging a war at home to cut billions from our public services.
