Paris Commune.

Anarchist history is varied and exciting and on many occasions has changed society dramatically. The Paris Commune is just one example and well worth remembering and celebrating, even if the end was a bloody massacre. The spirit lives on. This from SubMedia, with the promise of more to come.

It is worth remembering the Spirit of Revolt is probably the largest archive of Anarchist and Libertarian Socialist history and memorabilia in Scotland. Why not have a browse.

Avoidable.

I wrote the following article away back in March 2007, but I think is more relevant today that ever before. We are at present witnessing the disastrous result of climate change and at an ever increasing rate. To persist with the present insane self centre greed driven economic system is to be blind to the obvious disaster that we all face.

You Must be Red to be Green

Green issues are frequently spouted on TV, radio, and the press with lots of business hot shots and pompous politicians commenting on this solution and that solution, of course never mentioning, that it is the corporate greed machine and its ever increasing quest for profit that is the prime cause of our environmental problems. However the truth is, not until there is sustained and successful challenge to the short term interests of this planet-trashing corporate greed machine and its replacement by a sane and sustainable system of seeing to needs rather than greed, will any of the suggested solutions make an impact.
The economic structures of society have to be changed before environmental issues can be seriously dealt with and resolved. As long as the primary economic structure is the greed driven corporate profit motive, blessed and implemented by the usual corrupt state power, any attempt at resolving environmental problems will be ineffective. The present economic system is plundering and raping the planet for profit and is taking us and our descendants down a road to environmental disaster. To ask the corporate world to be more caring and compassionate and think of the long term interests of us all, is rather naive to say the least. they have to compete with each other or die and will always work to maximise their profits come what may, or their shareholders will leave in droves.
The corporate world is just one big greedy machine, avaricious and insatiable, within the corporate greed machine is a ruling class that puts its interests before the interests of society as a whole. It is obvious that this is in direct conflict and contrary to the long-term planet wide solutions required to reverse global warming. This short term self-interest of the corporate greed machine must not be allowed to override the interests of the world's population. We cannot allow the short term interests of the pampered privileged parasite shareholders to govern our world, all our futures are at stake. Only when we have eradicated this short-term self interest of the corporate greed machine, abandoned parasitical shareholders to the dustbin of history, can we hope to reverse the environmental disaster we are facing. The future of our children and grandchildren depend on us carrying out this necessary restructuring of society. The more you examine today's environmental problems the more it becomes obvious, that to be Green, you have to be Red.

Fail 22.

System Fail 22 just released and as usual packed with information that the mainstream media turn a blind eye to, to bring you bubble gum, popcorn and celebrity frivolity, with an overdose of Western propaganda.
This episode of System Fail has a wide coverage, highlighting the tensions between Indigenous communities and the settler colonial state in Brazil. The lower house of Brazil's congress passed a bill, PL 490, which aims to open up Indigenous territories for mining and capitalist development, subjecting established Indigenous land claims to legal challenges. The Indigenous communities have resisted the bill through blockades and protests.
Next it cover the Bwa Kale movement in Haiti, where residents take up arms against gangs terrorizing their communities, liberating their neighbourhoods and building up organization of community self-defence.
Lastly, riots erupted in Cardiff, Wales, following the deaths of two teenage boys who crashed their e-bike while being chased by police.

Up Yours!

Bristol, is a city with a large content of two  fingers "up yours" attitude to the establishment. I always read with interest and sometimes with a smile on my face, at some of what comes out of that fair city. Long may that spirit flourish and grow. Hopefully it could become infectious and be the next pandemic.
This latest rendering from that part of our island may not be to everybody's liking, but it does continue that spirit of "up yours", which can be so endearing.
The following from 325

This is a collection of poetic ramblings by an anarcho-nihilist hooligan in Bristol, UK.
Forging some kind of weapon by merger metaphors and poetry from lived experiences, an alternative from quick-fix solutions in the fast lane of instant gratification, stolen and twisted out of meaning, into some spiritual sloganeering which hopefully challenges a life of just material band-aid.

There Will Come A Time!!

When looking at the subservience by vast swaths of the population, to this brutal and exploitative system, that mires the people in permanent poverty,  I'm reminded of an Oscar Wilde quote:
"The difference between the common people and university professors is that the latter have arrived at ignorance after long and painful study"
Perhaps that is a bit harsh as "The common people", those so mired in poverty, find it hard to do anything except try to survive in this cesspool of greed. However, beneath that subservience lurks a seething anger, not ignorance, and sooner or later that anger will seek answers to its pain. No one knows the spark that will ignite that anger, when it does ignite, we as anarchists had better have our answers on the table or chaos will surely reign, as the false Messiahs will appear eager to lead them back to a new "improved" version of the status-quo, or worse.

There Will Come a Time

There will come a time when the hordes remember,
who bound our grand-parents to the yoke of oppression,
who sentenced our parents to deprivation,
who bid poverty sink its teeth into our heart,
who teach our children, greed is a noble art.
Who sent our sons through the gates of hell
to a litany of cambist brawls,
crammed coffers with blood-stained gold
while laughing in Ares’ halls.
“Who does these terrible things to us?” they will ask,
and when they remember,
they’ll bring an energy that is endless
to drive a fist that is fearless.
Then this merciless market-driven world will crumble
under an insurrection of integrity,
the poor will emerge from the dark husk of capitalism
to live in the light of social justice.
There will come a time when the hordes remember.

There Is No Messiah, No Miracles.

I believe it is safe to say that the vast majority of ordinary people are dissatisfied with the quality of their lives. Sadly, because of the bubble gum and candy floss propaganda, spewed out by our babbling brook of bullshit, the mainstream media, they seek the answers to that dissatisfaction in the very institutions that are responsible for their problems. Daily, in the midst of immeasurable wealth, we face poverty, hardship, homelessness, exploitation at work, wars, and a host of other injustices. In trying to answer these problems we continually return to the failed method of changing the government. We have tried them all, left, centrists, left of centre, right, right of centre and so the crazy pattern goes on. However, so do the problems, nothing is resolved in our favour, each new messiah falls from grace, and we seek a new saviour. By now we should have learnt that the persistent and naive routine of putting another party in power never has, and never will, fix our problems. Our problems are the result of the festering marriage between state and global capitalism, two heads of the same monster. The power of the state is in direct relation to the negation of our own power, we hand the quality and direction of our lives to others, and in doing so enhance their power over us.
We will have to solve our own problems, by coming together and organising to take control of our own communities and workplaces, ignore the party political system that binds us to the dictate of an ideology, and destroy the capitalist system. There will be no Messiahs to lead us to the promised land, we will receive no miracles from on high, We will have to evolve our own strategies, hone our own tactics, form our own weapons, and create a revolt of strength and intelligence that will take no rebuke from the poisonous power of any state. Anything less will be a compromise with injustice, exploitation and inequality, it will be an acceptance that our earth can be plundered to destruction for the wealth and power of the few.

The Undesirables.

As technology increases the efficiency of capitalist production, more and more of us are becoming surplus to requirements. We are actually a drain on the profits of the corporations, as taxes have to be raised to maintain control of us. We are moving from "surplus to requirements" to "undesirables". It is an indication of how corrupt and unjust a system is when it produces more "undesirables" than "desirables".
TO THE UNDESIRABLES
Undesirables in this world of cash and power
There are more and more undesirables in this world. Whether it’s the millions of refugees who roam the planet, or the millions herded into slums and poor neighbourhoods around the world. Whether it’s those sacrificed by wars and industrial devastation or the poor in European countries thrown overboard in the name of the economy. Whether it is the brave insurgents who have risen up with cries of freedom and dignity in many countries in recent years or those daring to fight here in the heart of the metropoli, against a world that suffocates them. More and more of us are considered superfluous, unnecessary, dangerous, unproductive and harmful by the masters of this world, who will stop at nothing to protect their system and save their power. They have turned the Mediterranean into a huge mass grave. They have set up hundreds of concentration camps for undocumented migrants. They have developed advanced technologies to better identify, monitor and control us. They brandish the threat of expulsion, imprisonment or the most abject poverty to make us accept the role of slaves that they have reserved for us. They stir up racial hatred and sectarian strife to divide us. In short, they are making war on the undesirables here and elsewhere.
Nowhere to run except …

What Is Freedom?

To all the the world, seasons greetings from Percy Bysshe Shelley:

XXXVIII
'Rise like Lions after slumber
In unvanquishable number,
Shake your chains to earth like dew
Which in sleep had fallen on you-
Ye are many-they are few.

XXXIX.
'What is Freedom?-ye can tell
That which slavery is, too well-
For its very name has grown
To an echo of your own.

XL.
''Tis to work and have such pay
As just keeps life from day to day
In your limbs, as in a cell
For the tyrants' use to dwell,

XLI.
'So that ye for them are made
Loom, and plough, and sword, and spade,
With or without your own will bent
To their defence and nourishment.

XLII.
''Tis to see your children weak
With their mothers pine and peak,
When the winter winds are bleak,-
They are dying whilst I speak.

XLIII.
''Tis to hunger for such diet
As the rich man in his riot
Casts to the fat dogs that lie
Surfeiting beneath his eye;

XLIV.
''Tis to let the Ghost of Gold
Take from Toil a thousandfold
More than e'er its substance could
In the tyrannies of old.

XLV.
'Paper coin-that forgery
Of the title-deeds, which ye
Hold to something of the worth
Of the inheritance of Earth.

XLVI.
''Tis to be a slave in soul
And to hold no strong control
Over your own wills, but be
All that others make of ye.

XLVII.
'And at length when ye complain
With a murmur weak and vain
'Tis to see the Tyrant's crew
Ride over your wives and you-
Blood is on the grass like dew.

XLVIII.
'Then it is to feel revenge
Fiercely thirsting to exchange
Blood for blood-and wrong for wrong-
Do not thus when ye are strong.

Through The Fog In Ukraine.

Through the fog that surrounds Ukraine, a fog that is created by that Western babbling brook of bullshit, the mainstream media, it is difficult to grasp what is really going on on the ground. We are fed a foul broth of Western imperialist belligerent rhetoric, of tales of a handful of armed thugs controlling the eastern part of Ukraine, and how this threatens the happy smiling, but nervous democratic loving groups, in the rest of Ukraine. No mention of neo-nazi groups, fascist gangs and beatings being handed out by those happy smiling, but nervous democratic loving people in and around Kiev.
It is obvious that the people of Ukraine are caught up in an imperialist land grab and the conditions on the ground are being influenced and manipulated by the two empires squabbling over territory. What is being played out on the babbling brook of bullshit, the media, has nothing to do with the welfare of the people of Ukraine, justice, democracy, or peace, it is a propaganda exercise on behalf of the Western empire, preparing the ground for whatever action it might deem fit, for its purpose of expansion. Listening to the war of words between the two empires conjures up pictures of kettles and pots and the word black.

An extract from an article, though with a bias, does through some light on what is going on  in that tortured country:
For many months the Western media has attempted to portray the so-called Maidan movement in rosy colours as a movement for “democracy”. The Western media has shamelessly concealed the leading role played by open fascist and Nazis organisations in the overthrow of Yanukovich. Fascist elements are present in the Kiev government and dictate many of its policies, including the attempt to ban the Russian language. They have begun to rewrite history presenting the Banderaists, who collaborated with the Nazis and perpetrated atrocities against Russians, Poles and Jews during the Second World War, as nationalist heroes. The reactionaries in Kiev brand anyone who does not agree with them as “slaves” or Russian lackeys. The deputy from Lviv in Western Ukraine, Iryna Farion, likes to refer to Russian speakers as “creatures”.
No Western politician could get away with such language. Yet people in the West, who rely on news reports in the media, can have no idea of how far reaction has gone in the Ukraine. Therefore, when they see reports of armed men seizing government buildings in the South East of the country, the only explanation given to them is that it is all the work of sinister forces sent from Moscow.
Kiev, Lviv and other Western Ukrainian cities are in the grip of a White Terror. Communists are beaten up and their officers ransacked and burnt down by fascist gangs. For instance, the Kiev offices of the Communist Party (KPU) were ransacked by extreme right wing thugs from the neo-nazi Right Sector and the Maidan “Self Defence” on April 9 and later that night suffered an arson attack. Offices of the KPU were also attacked in Lviv and other cities. Members of Parliament for the extreme right wing party Svoboda (part of the new government) beat up the state TV station director and forced him to resign. The same Svoboda Members of Parliament beat up Communist Party leader Symonenko as he was addressing the Rada criticising Ukranian right wing nationalists. Oleg Tsarev, a presidential candidate who claims to represent the South and Eastern regions, was beaten up by extreme right wing thugs after a TV appearance and then again as he visited Mikolayiv.-------

A Kettle Takes A While To Boil.

Like all mass protests that erupt, they are never isolated incidents, they are usually the result of a long simmering discontent, anger, frustration, at injustice, inequality, corruption and the lack of control of their own lives. The protests in the Middle East, and Turkey didn't just suddenly happen out of nowhere, the anger frustration and disgust has been there for years. Brazil is the same story, a country held up by the financial Mafia as a modern wonder, a booming economy, but as is normal in this capitalist system, that means there is a mass under class that don't see the benefits of that "booming economy". The capitalist system is corruption, is repression, you can't expect to build a spectacle of opulent wealth on the backs of millions of poor without corruption and repression, nor can you expect those millions of poor to put up with it forever. A kettle takes a while to boil.

TAKE YOUR MEDICINE AND YOU'LL GET SOME PIE IN THE SKY.

The IMF's (International Mankind Fuckers) hit squad, the financial Mafia, are back in Greece, to see if their minions, the Greek state apparatus, has plundered the public purse to their satisfaction. The answer of course will be no, they will have to introduce more “austerity” cuts. The fact that the Greek economy has contracted by 20% since 2008 and is expected to shrink by a further 7% and what this means to the Greek people, is of no consequence to the IMF/ECB, all that matters is the the various states make sure that the bond markets, banks and others of the financial Mafia, get all the money back that they gambled and lost. We should accept that in their plans this is not a temporary drop in the living standards of the people across Europe, this is a permanent adjustment in the difference in wealth between what is drip fed to the public and what goes into the coffers of the very rich. You are not meant to get it all back in a couple of years. Here in the UK they are now talking of “austerity” cuts continuing through 2017 and possibly 2020. However, it is not happening quick enough for the banking leeches, so Spain is now being pushed to get public spending down to the level of Greece or below. The results of their attack on public spending, wages and pensions, is that Greece is now running out of medicines, hospitals are closing, health problems are rocketing, suicides, drug and alcohol problems are escalating, and with the closing of needle exchanges due to cuts, HIV is increasing faster than anywhere else in Europe. This is not even noticed by the financial Mafia, all they see is financial balance sheets. Just as the Greek people take to the streets in anger, we are now seeing mounting revolt spreading across the cities of Spain. The fact is that the financial Mafia will not be deterred by a couple of countries in social turmoil, they will proceed with their march of destruction through country after country, carrying the false idea that they can balance their books and get back all that gambling loss. How long they go on with their vicious attack on the living standards of the people of all Europe will depend on the public. We can stop them dead in their tracks and change the whole structure under which we live, or we can accept their vision of the future and hope that if we put up with it, they will throw us a few biscuits, in some time in the future.

LET'S ROAR.

Budget day, we know the damage that is going to be inflicted on our class by the millionaires' club. Are we about to whimper in pain or are we about to ROAR, (Rise-up, Organise, Agitate, Revolt.) in anger and determination. ROAR our intentions that we will not sit quietly and let the milliomaire parasites inflict Victorian era poverty on us and our children.

LET’S ROAR.

The problem’s too big
the perpetrators unknown
you can’t beat the system
all on your own.
So it’s easy to withdraw
find your own little cage
turn a blind eye to the suffering
stifle your rage,
but the greed goes on
the poverty’s still there,
you can’t just leave it
for your children to bear.
Others feel as you do
eager to put things right
but locked in isolation
it’s a hopeless fight,
so don’t sit in silence
behind a closed door,
your voice can help raise
a whisper to a roar.
