Archives.

Anarchist archives, libraries and bookshops are an important and integral part of anarchism. If we don't record our own history it will disappear and the next generation will have no idea it ever happened. Orwell once stated that the best way to destroy a people was to destroy their history, we should always be wary of that fact. Anarchist archives, libraries and bookshops are our quiet information centres, there for all to see, browse and learn from. Scotland is fortunate that it has Spirit of Revolt Archives of dissent, probably the largest anarchist libertarian socialist archive in Scotland. In England we have The Sparrows Nest, Tyneside Anarchist Archive, and May Day Rooms, all valuable assets of the anarchist world. They say loud and clear, we were here yesterday and we are still here today, and these are our ideas and actions. I believe all anarchist should support these groups for the work they do to further anarchist ideas and preserve our history. So if you like what they are doing, why not support them, buy the a cup of coffee now and again, it would be much appreciated and it would help preserve and enlarge our rich and vibrant history.

Support our Anarchist Archives and libraries by a small donation.

No doubt there are other anarchist archives and libraries seek them out in your area and support them, let's not forget Kate Sharpley.

Why Vote?

Spirit of Revolt is probably Scotland's largest collection of Anarchist and Libertarian Socialist history, memorabilia, letters, pamphlets, periodicals, serials, photos, posters and a myriad of documents on the everyday struggles of the ordinary people, mainly Glasgow Clydeside, but lots of material from further afield including other language material. Spirit of Revolt is entirely run by a small group of unpaid volunteers and we welcome volunteers who can give an hour or two a week to help out and at the same time learn about archiving. So if you are interested in archives and history from below and have those couple of hours spare, why not get in touch, contact us HERE or contact us through info@spiritofrevolt.info

One of our aims, beside collecting and preserving our history is to make it freely and easily accessible to all. To this aim we digitise as much as possible and make it freely available on our website https://spiritofrevolt.info We also produce a "Read of the Month" here on this blog and on our website. You can also read selections from our collections on our twitter account, https://twitter.com/RevoltArchives

We rely entirely on donations from comrades, friends and associates, and are not supported financially by trade unions, or businesses. So if you like what we are doing and think it is worth while doing, why not support us by the price of a pint our a couple of coffees a month. On off or monthly direct debit no matter how small would be very much appreciated. DONATE HERE.

For September's "Read of the Month" We bring you Why I Won't Vote.

The Struggle Continues.

One of the pleasures, and there are many, of working in the Spirit of Revolt group is that you get to read a tremendous amount of interesting material from the activities of anarchist from the present to the distant past.
Recently while preparing images to put on our "Read of Line" facility I came across images of a booklet called "The Struggle Continues". As a lover of poetry this booklet held me up for quite a wee while in my processing, as I had to read it in full. It contains several wonderful poems, the first one was a particularly long poem called "The Devil's Cathedrals" by Patrick William Bradley Jnr. giving the poet's view on the missile silos and the world they can create.
To give you a wee sample of the content I have chosen a few shorter poems from this wonderful little booklet.
A Class Act

The Wall Street Journal reports that
none of these fellows from
Groton and St. Marks
Williams and Yale
are suffering any ill effects
from their Vietnam service;
the War has helped them make
"the tough decisions/'
1 don't doubt that it has.
Surely when you've napalmed
some fishing village on the Mekong or
thrown a VC
out of a helicopter
it must be nothing
to tell the Economics Minister of Mexico
that he has to double the price of bread
or inform the Argentine Minister of Finance
that his steel workers will have to accept
a 40% reduction in wages.
Vietnam, South America or South Brooklyn
these guys have "no problem with that."
Russell T Harrison.

Marxist Humor

Dear Owners: Sorry,
but it doesn't look like
there's enough recent production
from your side
for us to keep your positions
open. Once again, sorry.

Under The Fifth Rib.

September, another month, another opportunity to poke you nose into one more of Spirit of Revolt’s little gems from the past. This month we have chosen a 1939 publication by the Glasgow Anarchist Communist Federation, Under The Fifth Rib, by H. T. Derrett. It is part of our Charlie Baird Collection, T SOR-6-7-23. The Glasgow Anarchist Federation had their address as, 287 Netherton Road Glasgow, has anybody any idea if it is still there, and if so, who or what occupies the place? Enjoy and learn and perhaps peruse the catalogue while there, as over the last month or so we have added a considerable amount of new "Read on line" documents. This is an ongoing process, so keep coming back and do a wee bit of browsing. I'm sure what you find will be rewarding.
