Free Talk.

The first of the Spirit of Revolt and the May Day group Thursday evening of talks/discussions was last night Thursday 9th November. The feed back is that it was a very informative and interesting evening and the discussion afterwards raised important points with lots of information being shared. If you missed this one there are more such evenings arranged, There will one a month through to the Spring of next year, leading up to a series of May Day events, including a revived May Day Picnic on the Green.

The next Thursday evening talk/discussion will be December 7th. again in the Electron Club at the CCA 350 Sauchiehall Street The subject will "Strikes" and Elspeth King will be discussing The Calton Weathers Strike 1787 and introducing her book on the subject. This is a must as the strike was a very important event in organised labour in our country.

All these vents are hoping to build to a really massive May Day presence in our city. Prior to the pandemic our May Day Picnic on the Green was growing in success. However the pandemic put paid to that event, let's revive it and enjoy our May Day.

Image from one of our May Day Picnics on the Green, pre-pandemic. See you there next May.

A Library?

Where is Glasgow's anarchist library, we have Glasgow Women's Library, we have Spirit of Revolt Archives of Dissent, but no Glasgow Anarchist Library. We are a big city with a history of radical struggle by the ordinary people. Perhaps a Glasgow Anarchist Library could be the missing link.

 From stuut.info
October 8, 2023

We are several people who set up a participatory anarchist public library in the center of Brussels because we thought it was important. It’s called La B.O.U.M. , and after many months of preparation, it’s the day of the inauguration : we are happy to celebrate, and to finally start borrowing!

It’s happening at Boom, a self-managed café on rue Pletinckx n°7 in 1000 Brussels, behind the Halles St-Géry.

Saturday, October 21, 2023 4:00-10:00 p.m.

Program :
-4 p.m. : workshops, games
-6 p.m. : presentation of the library
-7 p.m. : Spanish inn
-8:30 p.m. : concert
+ surprise

If you want to participate in the organization

Our History.

Spirit of Revolt Archives of Dissent, Glasgow/Clydeside is an Anarchist, Libertarian Socialist Archive and has been in existence since 2011. It was formed by a group of unpaid volunteers, this film tries to explain the reasoning behind the formation of the project, its aims and some of the volunteers involved.
At present we have 49 collections catalogued and on the website with others waiting to be catalogued and posted to the website. These collections contain thousands of historical documents, pamphlets, leaflets, serials, letters, photos, posters and a myriad of memorabilia, related to the struggle of the ordinary people, lots of this already free to read on line. We are not associated with any political party of trade union, and rely completely on donations from comrades, friends and associates. If you think what we are doing is a worth while cause and important enough to continue, why not make a one off donation or a monthly direct debit, the price of a pint or a couple of coffees a month would make a tremendous difference

Pollok Free State.

Pollok Free State was a long bitter struggle to save part of Pollok Estate being carved into a motorway to suit the corporate bodies that transport goods for profit, destroying ancient trees & habitat of hundreds of species in the process. Of course the cry from the powers that be was, "it will be good for the economy" and screw the planet. we are fortunate that Spirit of Revolt Archive, has a large collection of photos and documents of the struggle at spiritofrevolt.info/simon-yuill-co SoR-25-2-1. All free to view.

McLibel.

Spirit of Revolt, for June Read of the Month, brings you a battle of the ordinary against the corporate juggernaut, This is when a brave young couple took on the might of MacDonalds and cost the company a fortune in cash and gave them a mountain of bad publicity. It became famous as the McLibel case. Delve in and enjoy more of the material held in Spirit of Revolt’s extensive array of history of our common struggles against this oppressive capitalist system of insane economics, injustice and inequality. Spirit of Revolt is probably the largest collection in Scotland  of anarchist, libertarian socialist and struggles of the ordinary people, your history of struggle for that better world for all.

Anti-War.

Monday May 15th. is International Conscientious Objectors Day, a day when we rightly mark in honour of all those who had the courage to refuse to be drafted into the state's military killing machine. Two world wars have seen thousands of individuals take a stand against the state process of murdering citizens who happen to live on another patch of this planet, and all the blood and misery shed is for power and wealth to the few. We owe a debt to these courageous individuals for their courageous stand in the face of brutal and savage state reprisals.
Glasgow like most cities, towns and villages across the country has a proud band of conscientious objectors. To them we raise a clenched fist and say thank you.
The two short pieces from our Spirit of Revolt Archive T SOR 1-1-2 refer to Allan Burnett one of Glasgow's young courageous conscientious objectors who eventually ended living in New Zealand.

May Day.

Spirit of Revolt's May Day picnic on the Green, despite changing weather, can be counted as a success. Though not as many turned up as we would have liked, but the Workers Memorial display attracted lots of passers-by, and by the amount of literature that we managed to hand out, it certainly was a great success. We managed to distribute lots of Anarchist Critic, Glasgow Keelies, Red and Black Poetry night leaflets, Red and Black Bookfair and Gathering leaflets, Spirit of Revolt business cards, plus lots of Radical Glasgow History Project leaflets. Encouragingly they were all taken with some enthusiasm. A big thank you to all those who turned up.

Two further coming events to mark Red and Black Clydeside May Week
