Shelter Is A Huma Right.

Once again solidarity has proved itself to be a powerful weapon in the struggles of the ordinary people. The growing support by the people of Glasgow to stand up to injustice, and take on the corporate juggernaut of SERCO and its partner in crime, the home office, has met with success, albeit, temporary success. Only the continued growth of that solidarity can turn this into a permanent victory. Shelter is a human right, not a privilege in the hands of corporate bodies or the home office to be handed out on ideological whim and/or profit motive. Well done to all those involved, and continue to grow our solidarity.

Living Rent Scotland's tenants union has welcomed today's announcement by SERCO to immediately halt their proposed evictions of up to 300 people in Glasgow, it comes as the Tenants union was preparing to mobilise hundreds of volunteers to defend the doors of those facing eviction by SERCO
Over 500 people have now signed up to a call out by Living Rent and were preparing to mobilise on Monday morning to defend the doors of their neighbours who are threatened with eviction by SERCO, it comes as part of the ongoing campaign by campaigners across the city to put a stop to SERCO's plans to evict up to 300 people across Glasgow
"We welcome this decision by SERCO to put a temporary halt to any lock changes, but let's be clear it's temporary. This concession from a multi-billion-pound multinational has only come about through the combined mobilisation of ordinary people and dedicated organisers; this belongs to the people and its only through our continuing mobilisation that we can ensure this victory is seen through.
The best way to ensure a victory in the courts is to show that the ordinary citizens of Glasgow are ready to take to the streets in defence of their neighbours no matter what. We have been planning and building up our capacity for neighbourhood defence all week in preparation for SERCO's attempt to evict people, we have seen a massive response from the people of Glasgow who are rightfully horrified and angry at these plans by SERCO. In less than a week we have already shifted the balance of power - over the next 21 days we need to gather our forces to finally show Serco and the home office that we mean business"
We will continue our plans to mobilise our members and all those who pledged to volunteer this week, everyone who has got in touch and pledged their support should keep Monday morning free if possible and we will be in touch as soon as possible.

Onwards!

A Death Of An Ordinary Person Is Of No Consquence To The State.

The state is an institution of control that lacks compassion and human empathy, it follows that those employed to guard its power and privileges are endowed with those same deficiencies. To expect the police to protect the public when their actual function is to protect the state, is naive in the extreme. The state, to safe guard its existence, grants itself the monopoly on power and violence, it can kill at will, and dress it up in their legal jargon, giving it their stamp of legitimacy. You kneel at the alter of state power or you are the enemy. There is a litany of evidence to this effect, all of it written in the blood of the ordinary people.

On March 15th, around 5 o’clock in the afternoon, our brother, friend, and colleague, Mame Mbaye Ndiaye, passed away. The incident took place on Calle Oso, Lavapiés, after a racist raid that was followed by a pursuit.
Together with all the organizations that support us including the 12N Sin Racismo, SOS Racismo, The Association of Manteros and Lateros, and Kwanzaa, we will no longer continue to accept the daily persecution of black people, nor the constant assassination attempts made by the Spanish State.
In accordance with our fellow colleagues who had also been the victims of the pursuit from Sol to Lavapiés, there were reports that the Police had been continually kicking them so that they would fall to be able to arrest them.
Mame Mbaye and a colleague had managed to reach Lavapiés where he then collapsed. His colleague tried to help him when he fell, but the police impeded him from doing so, with the excuse that they should wait for paramedics. Aid was possible, but yet the forces of the State decided to wait, facilitating his death. This incident is clearly a crime supported by the Ley de Extranjería (Spanish Law of Immigration), a law that kills, tortures and humiliates us both on the street and in the CIEs (Detention Centre for Illegal Migrants). A law that excludes us from society in such a way that prevents us from being able to exercise basic rights such as the right to work, health care, and fair legal representation. We find ourselves before the crime of a system of borders — a crime of state-sanctioned violence.
Moreover, we want to emphasize the fact that what happened to our brother Mame is not an isolated incident, but one that forms part of a bigger dynamic between the Spanish government that sustains itself through racism and the torture of black bodies and migrants.
The Collective of Manteros and Lateros is currently one of the social groups that suffers from the most police violence. Our colleagues are constantly attacked, discriminated against, and beaten for merely trying to survive. This is in addition to several thefts and arrests by state forces.
We demand the immediate conviction of the assassin of our brother, Mame Mbaye Ndiaye. We want to also commemorate each person that has been assassinated by these very same racist laws and borders including Samba Martínez, Aramis Manuka, Idrissa Diallo, Mohamed Abagui, and all those who cross continents and all our mantero brothers that suffer as well as all our ancestors.

Destitute In The Midst Of Wealth.

The Homeless.

Tenebrous spectres, they exist,    out there,
on the crumbling edge of chaos.
A father, a son, a brother,
a daughter, a sister, a mother.
Fragments of some shattered family structure,
waste products
from a society being driven to destruction
by a hurricane of greed
living a life that wears out life,
dying,
the devious death of exhaustion from existence.

The UK is the sixth richest country in the world, we can look about its cities and see opulence, indulgences in extravagant fetishes and in that babbling brook of bullshit, the mainstream media, we can read about individuals buying their latest £150 million yacht, or their latest £250,000 car. We are overflowing with the obscenity of individuals wallowing in lavish unimaginable wealth. But scratch the surface and we see poverty, deprivation and homelessness, the contradictions of capitalism.
Billions of pounds appear for war, likewise to refurbish the Westminster Houses of Hypocrisy and Corruption, and millions appear to shore up the London home of the UK's largest benefit family, the  Lizzie Windsor brood.
However, homelessness in this country has risen continuously, for the last seven years, but no millions appear to sort that problem. It falls on charities, friends and family to shoulder that burden, with cash strapped councils failing miserably to do their job.
Immigrants and asylum seekers are particularly hard hit in this area and lots of them, because of the system find, themselves unable to work and are homeless. Again it falls to the good will and humanity of the ordinary people to attempt to alleviate that particular problem. Glasgow's Night Shelter, has for years been doing what it can for homeless, destitute immigrants, all run by volunteers. Here is an appeal to come and see what they are doing and perhaps contribute support in one way or the other.

This is an invitation to join us on Thursday 8th February from 5pm - 7pm for an Open Evening at the proposed site of Glasgow Night Shelter's new premises.
The address is 24a Fairley Street Ibrox G51 2SN both the Ibrox and Cessnock subway stations are close by. It's also close to the bus stops on Paisley Road West. Please feel free to let anyone else you think may be interested know.
You'll be able to look at our proposed plans and drawings of how we plan to convert the buildings, what facilities we'll be installing as well as what work is required and how you can get involved!
It's even possible that some snacks and refreshments might also be available.
Please let me know if you'd like to attend. We don't have any power in the building yet so please wrap up warm!

All the best

One World, One People.

In spite of, or perhaps because of, the dreadful economic conditions in Greece, and despite the vast numbers of migrants in that country, people are still gathering in numbers and open demonstrations of support for migrants. With unemployment running at approximately 25%, among the young it is at around 50%, this is the usual fertile ground for the anti-migrant brigade, so it is encouraging to see a strong open defence of migrants.

MARCH IN SOLIDARITY WITH MIGRANTS/REFUGEES AND SELF-ORGANISED SOLIDARITY PROJECTS
This is aimed at locals, migrants and even more to those who mobilize in solidarity on the issue of immigration. We consider that the attenuation of the political movement, the local and international socio-political upheavals, and the particularities of the summer season make us a target for the state and fascists. We must act today with our strength and unity in solidarity with the collective subject of the broad refugee-migrant solidarity movement. Transcending our individual differences, we are calling for a march that passes by the housing and solidarity projects which operate on the basis of self-organization. At the end of the march we will convene an open assembly for establishing dynamic structures of unified self-defense in street, mainly for the migrant housing projects, but with broader anti-repression, antifascist content.

European Democracy At Work.

The Greek police probably rank as the most brutal police force in Europe, a very high percentage are members of Golden Dawn, the Greek right wing fascist group. Immigrants come in for some very brutal treatment from both Golden Dawn and the police, and thousands of immigrants end up in concentration camps dotted about the country. Of course it is not just immigrants that feel the harsh hand of the police, protesters old and young take a very high risk of injury if they take their protests to the streets. This is democratic Europe at work, repression by riot police tooled up like military units.
Today students in Greece were heading to their university only to find it occupied by riot police, and were met with violent confrontation. The students gather in thousands in the centre of Athens, where they were again met by a massive riot police attack.
Greece has been the financial Mafia's first stage of the experiment in creating a sweatshop Europe, and obviously the people will not take to this without resistance, and that's where the state's police brutality and repression come in. If they can beat the people of Greece into subservience, then the rest of us can look forward to the sweatshop Europe experiment spreading more rapidly to the rest of us.

Schools in Greece have been occupied for a week. After today’s student protest, riot police blocked access to the university and attacked the students.
It’s been some time since we last heard from the Greek movement. But, thanks to the Greek government and its riot police, today became a day of large student demonstrations, clashes with the cops, injuries and rising tension. First, let’s see what happened. Early in the morning, the Athens Law School students arrived at their university in order to carry out their assembly decision, which included a symbolic occupation of their university until the 17th of November — commemoration day of the 1973 student revolt against the military dictatorship.
The problem was that the school was already occupied by the riot police. The Athenian Universities’ rectors had decided to apply a peculiar “lock out” of------

European Prison System At Its Worst.

Today sees the start of a mass hunger strike by prisoners in Greek prisons. The conditions in Greek prisons are sub-human, to refer to them as “third world” would be insulting to those “third world” countries. Every prison in Greece is massively over crowded, as the government gets on with its crushing repression of any resistance to their “austerity” plans, at the dictate of the Troika, (EC European Commission, ECB European Central Bank, IMF International Mankind Fuckers).
Forget about Golden Dawn, the present Greek government is marching along the road to fascism all by its self, and needs no lessons from that band of thugs. It has instituted mass concentration camps for immigrants, where conditions are deplorable.
Prison hospitals in Greece are are without doubt the worst in Europe. All this is quietly accepted by the European Union, as they are fully aware that for their austerity and privatisation plans to continue, all resistance must be crushed. Greece is the experiment that is being watch carefully by the financial Mafia, if they get away with it, it could become their preferred template for the rest of Europe, if and when needed.
It is not just the conditions that are driving the victims of the Greek prison system to take drastic action, it is a raft of new legislation that will condemn some to life in prison without hope of release. If ever there was a case for pan-European solidarity, surely this is it.
This from Contra Info:
ANNOUNCEMENT OF HUNGER STRIKE
From June 18th, 2014, prisoners in all Greek prisons have abstained from prison meals as a way of protest against the fascist bill for type C prisons, and in defense of the right to furlough and release on parole.
However the minister of Justice and the government insist on ignoring our protest. They have not responded in any way to our just demands, and provocatively aim to pass the bill in summer sessions of the parliament, in their attempt to prevent people’s reaction.
Against this bill which condemns us to remain prisoners for life without rights or hope, we put our bodies and souls as a shield. This is the only thing we have left.
From Monday, June 23rd, 2014 we start a mass hunger strike in all prisons across Greece. We claim our rights, and we fight to remain humans, instead of human shadows locked up and forgotten into despair.
We demand:
     1) The withdrawal of the fascist bill for type C prisons. We say no to the Greek Guantanamo, a prison within a prison, without furloughs, without visitations, without tomorrow…

Democratic Detention Of Victims!!!!

Here in the UK the government spouts about us being a free and democratic country, yet there are hundreds of victims being locked in detention centres. It is certainly very undemocratic to lock up victims, instead of offering safety and support.

This from one who has been there:
When I was 13 years old I was locked up by British authorities. My family was persecuted in Turkey for being Kurds and left in fear. My mother and I came to the UK for safety, to seek asylum. Instead we were locked in a detention centre in Bedfordshire. I saw what women go through when they are detained.
Right now there are hundreds of women locked up in Yarl’s Wood detention centre. They need to be protected, not punished. That’s why I’m calling for the Government to end the detention of women who seek asylum.
These women have not committed any crime. Many of them are held in detention while their asylum request is processed. But it’s possible to create an asylum process in which their cases are heard while they are living in the community. The Home Office should treat women who have survived rape and torture with dignity and humanity.
Detention is very traumatic for women who have already experienced persecution. Allegations of abuse have been made against staff in Yarl’s Wood. Many women who are detained become suicidal and some of the women are pregnant. This is no place for these vulnerable women.
My mother and I were finally released and granted leave to remain in the UK. I then spoke out for the campaign to end the detention of children. In 2010 the Government announced that it would end the shameful practice that saw "innocent children imprisoned". I know we can do it again, but need you to help me.
Thank you for your support,
Meltem Avcil

Don't Let Isa Fly!

Day and daily, no matter where we live, we see the state's inhumanity. In most cases our own babbling brook of bullshit, the mainstream media, don't report that inhumanity in its own back yard, but is quick to point the finger at foreign regimes. It is usually up to the general public to hold their particular state to account.

This is one such case of the state's inhumanity and it is up to us to call them to account. An appeal from Unity:

Don’t let Isa fly!
Isa Muazu (Home Office Reference A1464395) came to the UK in 2007 on a visitor’s visa. He was detained and put on the Fast Track process in Harmondsworth Detention Centre on July 25th 2013, when he applied for asylum. Isa cannot return to his native Nigeria: hard-line Islamist group Boko Haram have already killed several members of his family and he fears that if he returns his life too would be in danger.
Isa has been on hunger strike in protest at his treatment whilst in detention for almost three months. He is now dangerously ill. Last week a judge refused to release him from detention because the Home Office had issued him removal directions even though Isa is too sick to move from his mattress on the floor. The Home Office plan to forcibly remove Isa on Wednesday 27th November at 22.20 on Virgin Atlantic flight VS651.
The Home Office are refusing to release Isa because they believe he is deliberately starving himself for trivial reasons. Last week they drew up an “End-of Life” plan with Isa including helping him to write his will. The Home Office have hardened their stance towards hunger strikers in detention since releasing four men on medical grounds earlier this year.
Isa has been clear- he started his protest because the food he was being given in the detention centre exacerbated several related medical conditions he suffers from. Since then he has widened his protest to include the way he has been treated within the detention centre since beginning the strike. Members of Unity have been supporting Isa since before he started his hunger strike. The Home Office have now issued Isa removal directions to return him to Nigeria before he dies in the detention centre.
Isa is not fit enough to survive being returned to Nigeria. He is extremely weak from not eating. He is finding it hard to see or to walk. If he is returned to Nigeria there is a strong possibility that he may die. The Home Office have acknowledged this fact by stating they will deport him with a medical team if necessary.
What you can do:

1. Lobby Virgin Atlantic.
We need to put pressure on Virgin Atlantic not to fly Isa. Please politely ask Virgin not to co-operate with the Home Office’s plans to remove Isa to his potential death in Nigeria.

Masters In The Art Of Deception.

You can always rely on that babbling brook of bullshit, the media, to sow confusion, distort the truth, quote details out of context, excel in double-speak and continually attempt to create divisions among the ordinary people. The last thing they want is an informed public, that would sound their death knell.

The Rise Of Nazi Greece.

The rise of Nazi Greece, first they came for the immigrants, then they came for the Roma, then they came for------!!! The Peloponnese, idyllic. Kalamata, quiet picturesque beauty, not the sort of places in "civilised" Europe that you would expect state terrorism to be open and so blatantly displayed. Then again, there is a class war going on.
Riot police squads that arrived from Athens have been conducting operations against the Roma population across the Peloponnese for the past few days. On Monday, the riot police flattened Roma camps in the Corinth prefecture, before moving to Messinia (and its capital, Kalamata) on Tuesday and then operating further in the prefectures of Argolida and Arkadia on Wednesday.
“prevention” of crime as the reasons why the Roma houses came under attack – an open and direct racist  attack against them. On Tuesday alone, 623 Roma were detained of which 84 were arrested, while 14 homes in total were flattened. The numbers for the other days remain unknown.
Astonishingly, the official police report on the operations talks of the “tackling” and the “prevention” of crime as the reasons why the Roma houses came under attack – an open and direct racist  attack against them. On Tuesday alone, 623 Roma were detained of which 84 were arrested, while 14 homes in total were flattened. The numbers for the other days remain unknown.

COMING TO A CITY NEAR YOU!!

It could be Germany in the mid-1930's, but no, this is Greece 2012. Rampant neo-nazis backed up by the police beating up immigrants and all opposition to the state. Street violence is the last resort of any repressive regime in an attempt to break any opposition, organisation and resistance to the powers that be. It is not confined to Greece, all states have used violence to break the public's resistance and they will all use it again if and when they feel the need. So let's not be complacent and think that it can only happen over there somewhere. Read your history and look at the present, it is coming to a city near you.

IMMIGRANT SUPPORT.

That pleasant country Greece has changed remarkably over the last couple of years, What the IMF, (International Mankind Fuckers) and the rest of the financial Mafia have done to that country is a crime of tremendous proportions. A country that welcomed people has now become a very dangerous place for immigrants. The rapid economic decline, in certain circumstances, has brought people together in resistance, co-operation and solidarity, however it has also unleashed a wave of fascist anti-immigrant sentiment.

From our friends at Reelnews:
After making Our Present is Your Future, we went to Greece a second time to speak to immigrants and refugees about their life in Greece. Many of those we spoke to were homeless, and often didn’t know where their next meal would come from. Trying to reach safety in Europe, they get trapped in Greece, in the midst of the economic crisis. They are left to fend for themselves. And people are scared. The streets in Greece aren’t safe – for those with the wrong skin colour. A 16 year old Somali was attacked an beaten by a group of men, after they shouted at him: “Hey black! You come to Greece? You will know Greece today!”
In preparation for this film we set up a website, with links to different organisations who work to support immigrants and refugees. Check it out here!

TO SOME FASCISM IS ACCEPTABLE, - WHY?

Most of us are aware of the problems facing the Greek people, most of these problems are the result of the policies of the financial Mafia, which includes the IMF (International Mankind Fuckers). The money maggots of the bond markets' Billionaire Club, having gambled and lost, now want the people of Europe to make good their loses. This is done by getting governments to transfer all public assets to the  billionaires' bank accounts. At the moment the Greek people are being hit hardest, the result being dire poverty and deprivation, with all its resultant conditions, increase suicides, mental health problems, rampant unemployment and decimated education and health services. With this deliberately applied brutal financial plunder there has also been a rise in violence, especially by the fascist groups against immigrants. In most of these cases the police are complicit by their inaction against the perpetrators and lack of support for the victims. The rise of fascists groups is something that always happens in time of extreme poverty, people start looking for answers but they don't all look in the same direction. That is why we have to push harder to get our answers out there, if our ideas are there they will be taken up, if not, then those ideas that are on the table, religion, more government, fascism, etc. will be the ones that the people will grasp.
