They say music makes the worlds go round, it certainly can be inspiring, and it certainly can bring people together, a weapon to energise a group, a community, a city or perhaps raise an idea to popular acceptance, like Love Music-Hate Racism.

My Homeland.

What better way to start your day than with pleasant music, with an emotional content that you wish to endorse. Translations are never 100% accurate, but you get the meaning.  Lifted this from Arrezafe.

They say the homeland is
a rifle and a flag.
My homeland is my brothers
who are tilling the land.

My homeland is my brothers
they are tilling the land
while here they teach us
how one kills in war.

Oh, I don't shoot, no,
oh, I don't shoot, I don't
Alas, I don't shoot my brothers.
Oh, I was throwing, yes,
oh, I was throwing, yes,
against those who drown the people in their hands.

Prepare us to fight
against the workers
bad lightning strike me
if I attack my companions.

The war they fear so much
it does not come from abroad;
they are proletarian struggles
like brave miners.

Oh, I don't shoot, no,
oh, I don't shoot, I don't
Alas, I don't shoot my brothers.
Oh, I was throwing, yes,
oh, I was throwing, yes,
against those who drown the people in their hands.

When a general dies
they carry it on a harmonic,
the one who kills himself in the mine
the coal itself buries it.

The one who kills himself in the mine
two companions carry it,
stone charcoal pain,
mourning of brave miners.

Oh, I don't shoot, no,
oh, I don't shoot, I don't
Alas, I don't shoot my brothers.
Oh, I was throwing, yes,
oh, I was throwing, yes,
against those who drown the people in their hands.

If my brother gets up
being in the barracks
I take the gun and the blanket
and I go to the mountains with him.

Officers, officers,
you have a lot of courage
we'll see if you are brave
when our day comes.

Oh, I don't shoot, no,
oh, I don't shoot, I don't
Alas, I don't shoot my brothers.
Oh, I was throwing, yes,
oh, I was throwing, yes,
against those who drown the people in their hands.

Oh, I don't shoot, no,
oh, I don't shoot, I don't
Alas, I don't shoot my brothers.
Oh, I was throwing, yes,
oh, I was throwing, yes,
against those who drown Spain in their hands.

State Killings.

Prisons, those state institutions of repression, often run by private corporations who, as usual, make profit from people's misery, are harsh and brutal places. However, a prison sentence should not mean a death sentence, but all too often it does. To be locked in a cage is inhumane enough, but to die locked in such conditions is a criminal indictment against the state and its festering apparatus.
The recent death in a Turkish prison, of a musician, must surely shock all those who hear of this tragedy, and voices must be raised in anger.

After 288 days on hunger strike, comrade Helin Bölek died today, Friday the 3rd of April, 2020.
Helin was a member of the left-wing music group “Grup Yorum” in Turkey. She was not the only hunger striker, other members of the music group are still going. With their hunger strike they demand the release of the imprisoned group members and an end to the criminalization of their group. Today, 1000 people in Istanbul took to the streets and held a memorial service in spite of coronavirus and police repression.
Grup Yorum are banned from performing because they are accused of being members of the banned Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party/Front (DHKP-C). Grup Yorum makes music for workers and they convey political content. This is a crime in the Turkish state today. The group members protest against this draconian treatment with a hunger strike. For some of them, forced feeding has been ordered by the state, this measure can also end in death.
This cruel inhumanity affects us. The workers’ choir of the IWW Bern (Industrial Workers of the World) calls for as many people as possible to show solidarity with the hunger strikers. Raise you voice – worldwide! It is not too late to fulfill the demands of the group and save them from death.

Freedom for all prisoners!
An attack on one is an attack on all!

Janetta McGinn

It is with deep sadness that we learn of the death of Glasgow stalwart and comrade, Janetta McGinn.

A Farewll

Another comrade leaves the field of battle
Another comrade who always stood tall
Another of our warriors has left the field
Another brick has fallen from our wall

Who will step forward to take her place
Who among us will rise to her just call
Who will step forward to fill the gap
Who has the courage to replace her fall

The following from her family on Facebook post:

Our much loved mum, Janetta McGinn died peacefully this morning in our home in Spain. She was 89 years old and she kicked ass for every day of her life. She was born with a fighting spirit that saw her lead campaigns and fight for socialism and justice all her life. She was never ever sentimental and wouldn’t like me posting this sweet love song that my dad wrote for her when they were young. I sang it to her in her last moments. With my mum you can kiss goodbye to a generation of good people that stood up for others. She never lost her hope for a better society, and she will be missed by many people that she helped throughout her life. We hope to have a funeral today in Spain and say farewell to her in another time in Scotland, with Arthur Johnstone singing and the Internationale playing, as she had wished.

Can We Sing Our Way To That Better World?

As anarchists we are always looking at ways to get our message across to the general public, there is a multitude of methods, dialogue, meetings, leaflets, literature, poetry, protests, demonstrations, music, squats, by example, and many many more, and we should utilise them all to our advantage.
This from Embers:

Talking to Lee Reed, anarchist organizer and MC from Hamilton, ON and self-described mouthy jerk. We talk about how his political music and focus have changed over time, artists and anarchists finding themselves in conflict over gentrification and figuring out what to do about it, Locke St repression and supporting Pride defenders, his recent Polaris nomination for the Steal City EP, and more. Plus I crammed this episode full of great tracks, old and new. Enjoy!
Music in this episode:
Lee Reed - The Bank

Mat Heddle feat. Lee Reed - Gtfh

Warsawpack - Doomsday Device

Lee Reed - Fuck No

Picnic On The Green, May 2018.

Well our May Day week celebrations came to a very pleasant end with our annual Picnic on the Green. The sun came out, the temperature soared and the people had a great time. May Day celebrations as they should be, family, friends, chat, music, poetry, fun, dance, food to share, face painting for the kids, and thoughts of past struggles and hopes for the future. Even although some of the performers couldn't make it at the last moment, it was a wonderful mixed afternoon of fun. A special thanks to our to young dancers, they were a star turn.
Our week started with the Donald Dewar statue gathering on May 1st. music, poetry and leafleting. Wednesday May 2nd was our history walk through the city centre, about 25 interested individuals gathered to follow, listen, question and learn, as they twisted their way through the city. A great success with lots of literature handed out on some of our working class struggles.
The culmination of our week's celebrations was the Picnic on the Green, Sunday May 6th. This was our third year, and each year it has got larger, so here's hoping that the next one will be bigger still.
None of this would have been possible if it wasn't for that wee band of dedicated volunteers, who took the idea and pushed it into a reality, nor would it have worked without all those wonderful people who gave up their valuable time to come and take a shot at centre stage, without them it would be nothing. A big thank you to those who came with their stalls and set up, adding colour and interest to the event. Of course there is the most important group of all, the general public that turned up and supported the idea of May Day celebrations on the Green. A big thank you to all and each of you.

Revolt in Songs, A night To Remeber.

Well last night's Spirit of Revolt, Revolt in Songs event, was a resounding success, a full venue, and a range of performers from all airts an' pairts o' the country, a wonderful night. I would like to thank all the performers for coming along and doing their thing with passion, skill and gusto, A big thank you to all those behind the scenes who made it happen, a special thanks to Brendan our MC for a great job, as well as entertaining us with some fine songs and excellent guitar playing. A special thanks to all those who turned up at the door, paid their money, and I know they had a great time. I'm sure we will do it again. The Spirit of Revolt calendar at £5, went well on the night, to all those unfortunate individuals who missed this great night, but would still like to purchase a calendar give us a wee call at john(dot)c(dot)at95@btinternet.com or through Facebook, and if you're local to Glasgow, we will get it to you in a couple of days.
For some reason the 8 is missing on this photo, but it is on the calendar.
Once again a great big thank you to all those involved, in which ever way.
Unfortunately the lighting in the venue did not lend itself to good photos, at least not for an amateur like me, but Bob recorded it, so there will be a wee video of the event coming out soon, thanks Bob.
Some of the performers, I apologise for not getting them all, and sorry for the poor quality of photographs:
