Anti-Racism.

A little bit late with this, but it is always good to see the enthusiasm and the colourful banners. Glasgow's anti-racist march on Saturday 25th November was as usual a very colourful affair. Marching from Glasgow Green to George Square it made a powerful statement, that Glasgow stands against racism in any shape or form. When you consider the series of very large ceasefire in Gaza marches that have taken place across the country, there is no doubt where our values lie. Let's strengthen that stand of anti-racism and peace. Enjoy the images from the anti-racism march.

Two Babes Were Born.

Two Babes Were Born.

Two babes were born one happy morn,
They came with love divine,
And a mother smiled by the River Thames,
And a mother smiled by the Rhine.

These children grew, so brave and true,
Each mother said, "How fine!"
And hearts were glad by the River Thames,
And hearts were glad by the Rhine.

But one sad day, so people say,
Their rulers tried to shine,
And one heard the call by the River Thames,
And another the call by the Rhine.

These two brave sons, the raised their guns,
As they marched in martial line,
And a mother sighed by the River Thames,
And a mother sighed by the Rhine.

On the battle plain where bullets rain,
These lads formed into line,
And hearts were sad by the River Thames,
And Hearts were sad by the Rhine.

They took their sight in the biter fight,
Their aim was really fine,
And a mother prayed by the River Thames,
And a mother prayed by the Rhine.

Two noble sons fell by their guns,
Their names in glory shine,
And a mother weeps by the River Thames
And a mother weeps by the Rhine.

So the Thames so fine, and the River Rhine,
Flow into the same great sea,
And they seem to say as they kiss the spray,
"If men were as wise as we."

Don't miss the launch of We Are Many this Thursday

The acclaimed film We Are Many will be in cinemas across the UK on 21 May, with a Q&A panel, and then in selected cinemas on 22 May.
We Are Many tells the story of 15 February 2003, when millions of people in cities and towns across the world marched to say not in my name to the Iraq war.       It is vital that the film is seen by as many people as possible. Local Stop the War groups are promoting the film in their areas. You can help promote the film in your area by inviting your Facebook contacts to your local cinema. Facebook events have been created for each town.

Lest We Forget.

We must keep hammering home the real reasons behind the First World War, the blood that was shed for empire, markets and resources, and oil was one of those resources that the British empire wanted, and was prepared to let hundreds of thousands die in unbelievable horror, to attain that wealth. To the imperialists, people were expendable, and to the modern imperialist, they still are.

Trident: Time To Move On.

Most politicians will try to keep Trident and weapons of mass destruction of the agenda for the present Crooks and Liars competition, the general election, as it is sometimes called. However it should be shouted from the rooftops, and continually shoved in their faces, these weapons are unnecessary, illegal, immoral and are weapons against the civilian population, destroying cities in one fell swoop. On the financial side, they drain resources from social projects, billions of pounds being squandered on these mad men's status symbols. This is the 100 years anniversary of the 1915 rent strikes, then, practically ever window had a sticker, stating "We are Not Paying". Wouldn't it be great to use that same principle and cover our cities and towns windows with stickers saying, "We Will Not Have Trident", making sure each of the Crooks and Liars in the competition gets the message.
From Move On Trident:

Trident: Time to Move On has launched!

Some of you may have seen the letter in the Observer on Sunday -

Please do share the links - especially the petition - with your networks now as every single signature will count over the next three weeks as we attempt to demonstrate to politicians and the mainstream media that any complacency around this issue is sorely misplaced.

We are still collecting high profile names to keep extending the list already committed here, so any further help with that will be much appreciated.

A Date For Your Diary, Glasgow.

As the state apparatus continues to sell WW1 as a period of glory, and a victory for democracy, there is a multitude of people out there doing their best to propagate the truth. The truth being that WW1, was in fact a bloody, totally unnecessary, imperialist land grab. A war littered with bloody blunders by stupid, blinkered officers and parliamentary ministers, blunders that cost millions of young lives and blighted a generation. All for the power and glory of our imperial masters. One such horrendous blunder was Gallipoli, an idiotic plan, or lack of plan, by the UK fascist, First Lord of the Admiralty, Winston Churchill, which resulted in around 100,000 dead and almost 500,000 casualties, (Wikipedia
If you're in or around Glasgow on the 25th. of April, you could take the opportunity to find out more about this particular disaster of war, and some of the many others, the Scottish Peace Network will be doing a film show and talk/discussion in the CCA, Glasgow.
April 25, Saturday, 1pm in the cinema room at the Centre for Contemporary Art at 350 Sauchiehall Street. This day marks the centenary of the World War I battle of Gallipoli, a disaster that cost the lives of hundreds of thousands. We will be showing part of a movie made by Peter Weir, and featuring a young Mel Gibson. The movie will be introduced by three short talks, one setting the context of the battle and the connection to Scotland, another on the enormous impact Gallipoli had on New Zealand and Australia and finally a talk putting this centenary event in the context of the counter program to the government's glorification of the war and of militarism. The movie will be followed by a discussion. FREE. All welcome. Sponsored by the Scottish Peace Network.

New Nukes For The Clyde.

A £37 million deal has been struck by Westminster with the US government for a dozen huge new Trident missile launchers more than a year before the UK parliament decides if the nuclear weapons system should be renewed.
The MoD denies the order for 12 new missile tubes pre-empts any decision on Trident by the UK parliamentPhotograph: Tony Buchanan

Those Never Ending Imperialist Adventures.

Bearing in mind the mutterings from St. Tony Blair, about troops on the ground in Iraq, and Cameron's desire to honour his American masters, we need to redouble our efforts to stop the UK being involved in another Middle East imperialist adventure. Peace and justice can't be bombed into existence.

Tony Blair, David Cameron

Emergency protest: Don't bomb Iraq, Don't bomb Syria. Lobby your MP.
  • Protest Downing Street. 5.30pm Thursday 25th September.
  • Lobby your MP. Use our model letter to write to your MP. It takes 2 minutes.
David Cameron is planning to recall parliament on Friday to push through a vote for the UK to join the US in bombing Isis in Iraq and possibly Syria.
If this vote passes British forces will be back in action in Iraq just three years after the last troops were withdrawn from the catastrophic occupation of 2003-11. The development comes in the same week Tony Blair called for renewed bombing in the region and the possibility of boots on the ground.
All the experience of the terrible wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya has shown that western military action only serves to kill innocents, destroy infrastructure and inflame violence.
Isis is a reactionary force, but it is in part a product of the disastrous occupation of Iraq by Western powers. Isis is funded by some of our main allies in the region, including Saudi Arabia. Escalating Western military intervention will do nothing to stop them but will create more suffering and further destabilise the region.
Stop the War is calling on our supporters to protest this Thursday evening outside Downing Street from 5.30pm till 7.30pm. Nearest tubes: Westminster and Charing Cross.
We are also asking supporters to immediately lobby their MPs to vote against bombing.

Faslane Peace Camp, A Diary Date.

A date for your diary, 4 days of workshops, fun and direct action hosted by the Faslane Peace Camp, June 12th. Lend your support to 32 years of continuous resistance to nuclear weapons.

Faslane Peace Camp is a permanent peace camp sited alongside Faslane Naval base in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It is a reminder of the horror that nestles in our beautiful countryside, a beacon highlighting the insanity of the system under which we live. Thanks to an army of dedicated peace lovers, it has been occupied continuously, in a few different locations, since 12 June 1982.

http://faslanepeacecamp.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/img000081.jpg

The camp has changed over the years, morphing according to the number and personalities of those occupying the site. At one point there were two camps, one at each of the main gates of the nuclear base.
A few years ago, after council border changes, the new council ended the camp's tenancy. An eviction was organised, but in the face of strong resistance and what would be large costs, they abandoned the eviction.

http://faslanepeacecamp.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/img00014.jpg

Over the years the camp residents have breached the security of the nuclear base and been swimming and canoeing in its waters, as well as disrupting the transporting of trident nuclear missiles. They also run workshops and other events to keep the issue of the illegality of these weapons of mass destruction, in the public domain, and the insanity of storing of them so close to a large city, Glasgow.

http://faslanepeacecamp.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/img00044.jpg

The 12th of June will see the Peace Camp hosting 4 days of workshops, fun and direct action. This is to mark 32 years of continuous resistance to the insanity of nuclear weapons. Accommodation will be available and there will be evening entertainment.
This event is open to the public and you are invited to come along and help run, organise, workshops and make suggestions, make friends and strengthen the resistance to this horror on our doorstep.
