The Curse Of Those Imaginary Lines.

Day in and day out, within this so called bastion of peace and democracy, the EU, immigrants are used as animals to be exploited and abused to further the riches of the profiteers of the system. The fantasy veil that is held up to convey the illusion of a civilised society is gossamer thin, and stained with the blood and suffering of the vulnerable, immigrants usually find themselves in that group.
The following article is a story that can be repeated across Europe, probably the world, where the system creates second class citizens by the power mongers claim to territory, and drawing imaginary lines across the planet, then confining you to your allotted spot.
Our friend Radek, has been held in custody, in the Netherlands, for 5 months now. He was charged with attempted arson at the Polish embassy, which carries a sentence of up to 12 years in jail. Radek – just as many other workers on emigration – had dealt with exploitation by the employers, on a daily basis. Exploitation, unfair pay, unpaid overtime, atrocious living conditions – the realities of work in the West. Radek had tried to solve those problems in a less radical matter. He had given a shot by going public with it, informing the media, executing his rights. None of it helped. Eventually, he took a brave step forward. He went to the Polish embassy in The Hague, with a can full of gas and a lighter. He then informed, that he would burn the place and asked for people inside the building to be evacuated. In reality: springs from the lighter were taken out, so as to make sure, that starting a fire wouldn’t be possible.
By drawing attention onto himself, his goal was to make people aware, of what kind of conditions do employment agencies ‘serve’ Polish workers in the Netherlands. He did it in his own name and in the name of everyone, who are just as him – oppressed by this whole machine of exploitation.
We’ll keep you updated with more details about the incident, after we get Radek’s letter, in which he describes his actions and labour conditions in the Netherlands.
Our friend wanted to spread awareness about the problem, which hurts helpless people, in need for money, with families they need to take care after. He wanted to show, what kind of shit is being condoned. Meanwhile – his cry has been silenced and the case is being kept quiet… So as to close him up as soon as possible.
He has still two trials left ahead of him; the sentence is set to be announced in July. As for this moment, Radek needs our total support: he needs to know, that people – have in fact – heard about the things he tried to convey. That’s why we encourage all of you, to write him letters (when locked down in a single-cell for months, reading those letters, will be one of few entertaining things to do).

Has Summer Arrived???

Well, well, whatever happened to our weather, blue skies and 16 degrees, pity about the 16mph wind. The sun made me think of Aberfoyle, so that's where I headed, it is an easier ride home that it is on the outward journey, more long incline drags, as you gain height to about Ward Toll, then you get some nice runs down towards Aberfoyle. So naturally that 16mph wind was in my face on the run out, but gave me a wee push back home on the easier stretch. Still a wonderful afternoon. The sun brought out all manner of cyclists in all shapes and sizes of bikes, but the Lycra clad brigade in their light weight bikes, out numbered the rest. I now accept that they will pass me at regular intervals, usually with a "Hi" as they with their young legs and lungs zip along the road.
Last year after a run that was meant to end in Aberfolye, but was foiled, I posted about the pipes that run from Loch Katrine to supply Glasgow with its fresh water, and how the road at Ballot Toll  was closed, as where the pipes cross the road at that point, there seemed to be problem, as it was all supported by steel columns across the road. Well it seems that it is still a problem, though the road is open in a controlled single line traffic arrangement, with height restrictions on vehicles, the pipes still look in a precarious condition. Perhaps the fresh water supply to a major city is not a priority.
Liz MacGregor's is a pleasant watering hole when visiting Aberfoyle. Good soup, nice cakes and not expensive.
The might River Forth that ends up entering the North Sea on the east coast at Edinburgh, starts its life in these parts. Here it is, just a little river, as it winds its way through Aberfolye.

Delight In The Drizzle.

Another dull overcast day, but the wind had all but disappeared. So it was a magical run around my most familiar cycling pad, the Campsie area. Cool but pleasant, it would have been nice to see the sun. Though there was a very light drizzle just as I churned the last few miles home, it didn't in any way detract from the pleasure.
Cast your eyes down from the overcast skies
and what will you see?
Why, priceless jewels and colourful gems
all absolutely free.

Pleasure In The Drizzle.

Well today, Sunday, wasn't my kind of cycling day, dull, cool, a bit of a wind and drizzle, all the factors that play havoc with my wee bronchial tubes. However ever the optimist I decided to have a short run up to Clachan of Campsie.  I coughed and spluttered a bit, but no real problems, and I thoroughly enjoyed the outing. While having my obligatory plate of lentil soup, I had the added pleasure of my partner, Stasia arriving by car and joined me in the eating routine. So, all in all, a great afternoon.

Oh What A Beautiful Day.

Best day of the year so far. What a beautiful day, not a cloud to be seen, though the wind was light 8mph it was an easterly and very cold. It is quite a while since I trundled along the Aberfoyle road, really enjoyed it, still longing for some heat in the air, but it is a beautiful country.

When Autumn Leaves Start To Fall.

September and October have been very kind to us, long may it last. Another wee run out on the bike, round Militon of Campsie area. A beautiful day, and the benefit of virtually no wind, glory be, I love it when that Scottish cauld blast disappears for a while. Though in the photos I think the leaves were actually last year's, they looked rather dirty and wrinkled, anything for effect.

A cool day, on a cool bike.

How can you not be captivated by the Loch?
Looking at September, I think some how, some where, somebody, has got our season mixed up. March to August is our cold wet and windy Autumn, followed some how by our September summer, then we can expect our October to March to be our lousy cold, windy, winter. Spring is some kind of illusion.
In saying that, today I had another nice day up the Loch, you know the one. When I left the north end of Glasgow, it was warm with lots of sunny intervals and little cloud. The loch side was cool, and rather cloudy, not the sun caressing my ageing body with warmth, that I had hoped for, never the less, a great day.
The plate of soup is just round the next bend.
