Anzac.

All wars are fought to protect the rich and powerful of one power block from the rich and powerful of another power block. They are either fought to increase the resources and markets of one power block or to protect resources and markets of a power block. As the power blocks gear up for war, the war propaganda will spew out, illusions will be painted, through the subservient media, the poison of patriotism will be flow like a river in spate, we will be fed such garbage as defending "our nation", an illusion will be manufacture about some foreigners wanting to destroy "our culture" our way of life, the other is evil and must be destroyed. All this because the rich and powerful need the ordinary people as cannon fodder to shed their blood in these power struggles of the rich and powerful parasite class. Without a subservient population their power would collapse.

The following from Enough is Enough:
Australia. On 25 April, 1915, about 25,000 Australian and New Zealand soldiers landed at Anzac Cove. Australia’s militaristic national myth was founded on the Gallipoli landing.

Gallipoli 1915

Winston Churchill wanted to knock the Ottoman Empire out of the war. Plan A, a naval attack on the Dardanelles, failed.  Plan B was a land assault.    So, on 25 April, about 25,000 Australian and New Zealand soldiers landed at Anzac Cove.  Many were mown down by Turkish guns on the very first day.    By the time of the evacuation nearly nine months later, the debacle had cost 56,000 lives on the allied side and another 56,000 on the Turkish.    The Gallipoli Campaign was one of the many crimes in the much larger crime that was World War I, a clash of two rival imperial alliances squabbling over territory, colonies and resources. Over 17 and a half million people, civilian and military, died for the wealth and power of their ruling classes.

Churchill.

So Churchill's statue is to be protected in case someone takes umbrage, and defaces it in some way, well what would you expect the white racist, imperialists of our establishment to do? Churchill was a true follower of their faith, arrogant, racists and little regard for humanity. His arrogance was backed up by his ineptitude, probably the best display of these qualities was his Gallipoli disaster, a pointless, sacrifice of thousands of troops lives based on his total ignorance of the situation. His catalogue of brutal and inhumane treatment of those who dared to stand in the way of the British Empire's exploitation of native people's is difficult to surpass.

The recent flap over Winston Churchill — with Labour politician John McDonnell calling Britain’s most revered prime minister a “villain” and prompting a rebuke from the latter’s grandson — will astonish many Indians. That’s not because the label itself is a misnomer, but because McDonnell was exercised by the death of one Welsh miner in 1910. In fact, Churchill has the blood of millions on his hands whom the British prefer to forget.

From Jacobin, the Real Winston Churchill:
----In addition to being motivated by a profoundly antisemitic “good Jew-bad Jew” dichotomy, the colonial underpinnings of Churchill’s support for Zionism were later made clear when he addressed the Palestine Royal Commission on the subject of Palestinian self-determination. Resorting to bestiary for his imagery, he compared self-rule to the dog running its own manger, a right he did not acknowledge. “I do not admit,” he went on, “that a great wrong has been done to the Red Indians of America, or the black people of Australia . . . by the fact that a stronger race, a higher grade race . . . has come in and taken its place.”
As an imperial tactician, Churchill recommended fighting the insurgency in British Mandate Iraq by gassing them. Indeed, he had already pioneered such deadly weapons in Russia, against the Bolsheviks. It is important to recognize that, as with his support for aerial combat, he tended to justify this as a humane, high-tech alternative to more brutal methods. “I am strongly in favor of using poisoned gas against uncivilized tribes,” he wrote, before explaining: “The moral effect should be so good that the loss of life should be reduced to a minimum.”------
So why wouldn't our white racist imperialist, lords and masters wish to protect one of their heroes, he is truly one of them.

Talk Is Cheap.

We now get a daily briefing from our political ballerinas, they seem to enjoy making noises about being on a war footing and mouthing off with Churchillian phrases and platitudes, all noise and empty rumblings. Of course we should always remember that their hero Churchill was the idiot responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands at Gallipoli due to his arrogance and total lack of understanding of the situation.
Allied casualties reached upward of 200,000 men killed, wounded, or missing in action. The men evacuated from the Gallipoli beaches later were shipped to France, smack into the bloodbath of the Western Front trenches.
As for Gallipoli, it would be difficult to find another location where so many men from so many nations fought and died in such a small place. Turks, Germans, British, Australians, New Zealanders, French, Indians, Senegalese, Arabs, Austrians, Gurkhas, and others
Of course Churchill was an imperialist, and therefore revered by our lords and masters.
It is the one thing our political ballerinas are good at, mouthing platitudes, and grand sounding soundbites and we are hearing a lot of them with regard to the NHS, but these and other front-line workers are still short of equipment to safeguard them as they do their life saving work. Plenty of vacuous phrases but very short on cash.
So in our very humble way we have come up with a poster which we have put in our window, just to try to keep in the forefront of people's minds that our government ministers are responsible for the depleted state of our NHS and other social services, all talk but little cash.
We hope those who have the facilities will print out the poster and display it where they can. Or email us at annarky(at)radicalglasgow(dot)me(dot)uk and we will send you some.

Lest We Forget.

We must keep hammering home the real reasons behind the First World War, the blood that was shed for empire, markets and resources, and oil was one of those resources that the British empire wanted, and was prepared to let hundreds of thousands die in unbelievable horror, to attain that wealth. To the imperialists, people were expendable, and to the modern imperialist, they still are.

Churchill's Bloody Disaster, Gallipoli.

Tomorrow April 25th. our imperialist state will bring out all its regalia, pomp and ceremony, in an attempt to turn one of its most brutal blunders into a show of glory, and claim another victory for democracy. The event that  they will "celebrate"  will be the centenary of the battle of Gallipoli, a stupid, needless, blood bath of young men, dreamed up by the racist, fascist, Winston Churchill. At the time it was such a blundering disaster that Churchill lost his position in the government. The pomp and parades will be an attempt to airbrush the disaster aspect of the blunder out of our consciousness, and have it photo-shopped as all glory and honour.
Our imperialist state will always glorify war, it needs war to protect its power and privileges, and ever opportunity will be taken to show war with pride and glory. There is no glory in war, it is a tactic whereby states protect and enhance their power, at the expense of the ordinary people.
Anzac Day 25 April 2015: Gallipoli 100 years on
25 April 2015 marks the hundredth anniversary of the start of the British-led military invasion of Gallipoli on Turkey’s Dardanelle Peninsula, which resulted in over 200,000 dead and wounded in an eight-month period.
Gallipoli was a military disaster. Yet, a century on, politicians seeking to glorify the First World War, are calling the huge loss of life at Gallipoli "a price worth paying."

As the Australian government spends $300 million commemorating the WWI centenary, and using it to promote militarism and nationalist myths, veterans' groups have condemned the "nationalist circus" that Anzac Day has become.
The UK government, which is spending £60 million on its own nationalist circus commemorating WW1, has a number of Anzac Day events, including in London and Turkey. There will of course be little mention of Winston Churchill's role as prime mover of the Gallipoli catastrophe, which lead to his dismissal from the British government a hundred years ago.
Rather than celebrating the rewriting of history to promote new wars being waged on this 100th anniversary, it is important to remember what really happened at Gallipoli.
The No Glory website aims to capture the reality of what took place, with a dedicated page, Anzac Day 2015 - the Gallipoli disaster 100 years on, that has links to articles, videos, songs etc.
Among the features are two conflicting views of The Water Diviner, Russell Crowe's film about Gallipoli, which was Australia's highest grossing film in 2014. One reviewer says the film is anti-war, the other says the opposite.
And from that "revered" Western capitalist mouthpiece, The Wall Street Journal:

The British government gave much consideration to the eventual division of the Ottoman lands once the straits were captured but very little to how the operation might actually be executed. The amateurish preparation and the resulting fiasco are recounted with sharp, taut precision in “Gallipoli: The End of the Myth,” Robin Prior’s near-definitive analysis of the campaign.
The assumption that Britain would simply sweep to victory over second-rate Turkey was just the first of many errors of judgment. At each stumble, when a logical examination of the campaign would have had only one possible conclusion—withdrawal—Britain’s leaders doubled down, eventually committing a half-million troops to the Gallipoli Peninsula in a sequence of bloody landings and operations.

A Date For Your Diary, Glasgow.

As the state apparatus continues to sell WW1 as a period of glory, and a victory for democracy, there is a multitude of people out there doing their best to propagate the truth. The truth being that WW1, was in fact a bloody, totally unnecessary, imperialist land grab. A war littered with bloody blunders by stupid, blinkered officers and parliamentary ministers, blunders that cost millions of young lives and blighted a generation. All for the power and glory of our imperial masters. One such horrendous blunder was Gallipoli, an idiotic plan, or lack of plan, by the UK fascist, First Lord of the Admiralty, Winston Churchill, which resulted in around 100,000 dead and almost 500,000 casualties, (Wikipedia
If you're in or around Glasgow on the 25th. of April, you could take the opportunity to find out more about this particular disaster of war, and some of the many others, the Scottish Peace Network will be doing a film show and talk/discussion in the CCA, Glasgow.
