Poems.

Perhaps it is a time for a wee poem or two, to say the thoughts that clamber and crash their way through the labyrinth of my mind.

Tinsel Cities.

In the city of tinsel and bright lights
midst the playthings of the rich
just beyond the champagne bubble
out of earshot of the butterfly people
in the dark shadows where no one looks
there you’ll find poverty and destitution
dance a macabre dance of survival.
In Mammon’s city of grand illusions
where rivers of wealth feed frivolity
in its twisting dark and musty lanes
where the light of hope seldom shines
an army of the living dead sweat and toil
polishing the tinsel, changing light bulbs
refilling the champagne bottles
nothing must stop the flow of frivolity
or the butterfly people will die.

The Invisible.

We live there— yes— there
A little bit above the dead
But quite a bit below the living
Where poverty is a dream
Deprivation a reality
Our daily bread an illusion
We sigh--we weep—
As ruthless poverty
With its cold claws
Tears the heart from our children
We ask—WHY?
Surrounded by opulence
Invisible to arrogant greed
Anger simmers beneath the surface
We seek equality
We will have justice
If blood is the price
So be it.

 Mirror Mirror On The Wall.

I can’t help but watch him
that old man
as he staggers across the room
with that unusual gait
punctuated by the odd stumble
I hear his groans and feel his pain
sometimes with a few profane words
he drags himself from the couch or chair
pauses for a moment to regain his balance
I sense his reluctance to bend down
and pick things off the floor
I’m fascinated by those hands
light brown withered looking bony structures
with their pronounced veins
running along the back of them
and up his slim arms
I sense his annoyance
that they’re not as strong as they used to be
I feel his regret
that he can’t do the things he once did with ease
I often think
that to have lived that long
he must have a chest full
of memories and experiences
that should be worth something
but what puzzles me most
is when
I look in the mirror
I see him and not me.

This Class Ridden Plutocracy, Our Problem.

The UK is a class ridden society, scarred by inequality, controlled by a wealthy elite and presided over my an outdated imperialist monarchy. Yet it parades itself on the world stage as a leader of democracy. Perhaps a leader of hypocrisy would be a more accurate title. In this fog of illusion of democracy, the rich get richer, and milk the system by every means available, while the ordinary people in most cases just scrape by, while many others sink deeper into the mire of deprivation. The outdated monarchy and its parasitical hangers on, by slight of hand, exploitation and corruption, live a life of unimaginable opulence, oblivious to the needs of the vast majority.
This situation can only survive by us, the ordinary people, being silent, docile and submissive. We are complicit in our own injustice if we don't actively take steps to destroy this brutal charade of democracy. By our inaction and turning a blind eye to the exploitation and inequality that rapes and plunders our communities, we must shoulder the blame. If we are aware of the inequalities, injustices and blatant exploitation, the only sane thing to do is to put matters right, and bring the whole stinking, rotten class ridden system crashing down. We have tried dialogue and reform for centuries, but the parasites still hold sway. Voting has only made as more compliant with the corruption inherent in the system.
We must stop playing their game to their rules and by direct action take control in our communities and workplaces. This is the only road open to the mass of people who suffer on a daily basis under this medieval plutocracy. If you believe that you can convince the ruling wealthy parasites to take their wealth and spread it more equally among the people who actually create that wealth, you are living in a dream world of fantasy. They will merely enter into another dialogue with you for the next couple of centuries.

Destitute In The Midst Of Wealth.

The Homeless.

Tenebrous spectres, they exist,    out there,
on the crumbling edge of chaos.
A father, a son, a brother,
a daughter, a sister, a mother.
Fragments of some shattered family structure,
waste products
from a society being driven to destruction
by a hurricane of greed
living a life that wears out life,
dying,
the devious death of exhaustion from existence.

The UK is the sixth richest country in the world, we can look about its cities and see opulence, indulgences in extravagant fetishes and in that babbling brook of bullshit, the mainstream media, we can read about individuals buying their latest £150 million yacht, or their latest £250,000 car. We are overflowing with the obscenity of individuals wallowing in lavish unimaginable wealth. But scratch the surface and we see poverty, deprivation and homelessness, the contradictions of capitalism.
Billions of pounds appear for war, likewise to refurbish the Westminster Houses of Hypocrisy and Corruption, and millions appear to shore up the London home of the UK's largest benefit family, the  Lizzie Windsor brood.
However, homelessness in this country has risen continuously, for the last seven years, but no millions appear to sort that problem. It falls on charities, friends and family to shoulder that burden, with cash strapped councils failing miserably to do their job.
Immigrants and asylum seekers are particularly hard hit in this area and lots of them, because of the system find, themselves unable to work and are homeless. Again it falls to the good will and humanity of the ordinary people to attempt to alleviate that particular problem. Glasgow's Night Shelter, has for years been doing what it can for homeless, destitute immigrants, all run by volunteers. Here is an appeal to come and see what they are doing and perhaps contribute support in one way or the other.

This is an invitation to join us on Thursday 8th February from 5pm - 7pm for an Open Evening at the proposed site of Glasgow Night Shelter's new premises.
The address is 24a Fairley Street Ibrox G51 2SN both the Ibrox and Cessnock subway stations are close by. It's also close to the bus stops on Paisley Road West. Please feel free to let anyone else you think may be interested know.
You'll be able to look at our proposed plans and drawings of how we plan to convert the buildings, what facilities we'll be installing as well as what work is required and how you can get involved!
It's even possible that some snacks and refreshments might also be available.
Please let me know if you'd like to attend. We don't have any power in the building yet so please wrap up warm!

All the best
