A Library?

Where is Glasgow's anarchist library, we have Glasgow Women's Library, we have Spirit of Revolt Archives of Dissent, but no Glasgow Anarchist Library. We are a big city with a history of radical struggle by the ordinary people. Perhaps a Glasgow Anarchist Library could be the missing link.

We are several people who set up a participatory anarchist public library in the center of Brussels because we thought it was important. It’s called La B.O.U.M. , and after many months of preparation, it’s the day of the inauguration : we are happy to celebrate, and to finally start borrowing!

It’s happening at Boom, a self-managed café on rue Pletinckx n°7 in 1000 Brussels, behind the Halles St-Géry.

Saturday, October 21, 2023 4:00-10:00 p.m.

Program :
-4 p.m. : workshops, games
-6 p.m. : presentation of the library
-7 p.m. : Spanish inn
-8:30 p.m. : concert
+ surprise

Women, Knowledge, Peace And Freedom.

Glasgow is fortunate to have The Glasgow Women's Library, a unique resource in the UK, born 21st September 1991, from humble beginnings in a shop front in the Garnethill district of Glasgow it has grown into the only  Accredited Museum dedicated to women’s history in the whole of the UK and a designated ‘Recognised Collection of National Significance.’ Over this period it has been involved in various outreach events, on its own and in conjunction with other like minded organisations. One such event is organised for September 30th as a joint affair between the Scottish branch of Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, and The Glasgow Women's Library.

Can you please distribute this notice to women who may be interested?
Scottish branch of Women's International League for Peace and Freedom have linked up with Glasgow Women's Library to bring you an event focusing on the Peace Crusades in Glasgow & Manchester.
Not all women were in favour of war in 1914-1918. Many were participants in the Women's Peace Crusades.
The event will take place on Saturday afternoon, 1.30-3.30 on 30 September 2017, at Glasgow Women's Library.

All women are welcome to attend this free event.

Remembering Women Peace Crusaders.

I'm just a wee bit late for the launch of this one, but still time to give it a visit. In these sabre rattling and blood-letting days, this is well worth supporting, an exhibition at The Glasgow Women's Library.

This small exhibition draws on research undertaken into some of the key figures of the Women’s Peace Crusade, highlighting a sample of some of their incredible achievements. From Glasgow based activists such as Helen Crawfurd, to national and international figures such as Rosa Manus, the research, curated by Fiona Dean and developed in collaboration with staff, learners and volunteers at GWL, aims to bring the voices and lives of a selection of women of the Peace Crusades into Glasgow Women’s Library – directly into the former Gentleman’s reading room of Bridgeton Library, a space that would not have been accessible to women of that time. The exhibition includes a newly realised series of portraits by Sarah Amy Fishlock.
Forward! Remembering Women Peace Crusaders Exhibition from 23rd July to 31st August.
The exhibition will include newly commissioned ‘portraits’ representing workshop participants with a selection of the material about the historic women they have uncovered.
Join us for the Launch Event on Saturday 23rd July when we will lead a procession in the Crusaders’ footsteps from Glasgow Green to the exhibition at GWL. The exhibition launch will be followed by a screening of GWL and RCS’s barnstorming film, MARCH. To book for the launch event please visit this website.
