Shall We Sow The Seeds Of Hate, And The Desire For Vengence.

Can the voice of sanity drown out the baying for blood, can the doves of peace silence the trumpet call to war, can the will of the people return the dogs of war to their kennels? We can't expect that pampered, privileged, hypocritical cabal sitting in the marble halls of power to silence the howling hounds, they are the ones who stand ready to unleash them. It is not blood that flows through their veins, it is the venom of imperialism. Stopping the frenzied rush to war can only be done by the will of the people, only by the concerted effort of the ordinary people can the bloodshed be stopped.
The savagery of war is never to the benefit of the ordinary people on either side of the slaughter. They are the ones who see the blood of their loved ones stain the fertile earth, but never gain the the spoils of war. They are the ones who mourn, while the war mongers feast in marble halls built on the bones of the people.
Syria at the moment is being bombed into oblivion, the Syrian people are bleeding from every pore, Britain's contribution will add a few more villages, towns and cities, splattered with the blood of ordinary people. The reason for our lords and masters desire to contribute to this humanitarian disaster, is simply, the desire for the British imperialists to play on the big imperialist stage, they don't want to miss out on the spoils. This action is certainly not born out of compassion for the people of Syria.
If we the ordinary people can't stop this, we are complicit in the deaths of men, women and children who have done us no harm, we will be planting the seeds of hatred and perhaps a desire for revenge.
MONDAY - Don't Bomb Syria - Emergency Protests

From Stop The War:
Day X approaches,
MPs prepare to vote for war on Syria

1) Reports, images and vide on nationwide protests against bombing Syria
Thanks to everyone who came out and demonstrated this weekend. We had a great turnout at very short notice. The message was very clear: Don't Bomb Syria.
As reports, pictures and videos were posted online from around the country, the hashtag #DontBombSyria trended at number one on Twitter for much of the day.
Thousands turned out in London where Whitehall was brought to a halt by the protestors, including many young people. See excellent video here...
Around Britain thousands more held protests despite gales and rain in some places. Cambridge got a message from their local MP while protesting that he opposed airstrikes. There was a protest in North Staffs despite appalling weather. In Manchester, Leeds, Oxford, Norwich and Birmingham there were protests.
Among those signing the petition on the Stop the War street stall in the tiny village of Lymm in Cheshire was Ian Brown, lead singer of the legendary UK band The Stone Roses.
See reports, images, video from around the UK on the national day of action...

SolidarityThe Winning Weapon.

An appeal for solidarity from SACC:

Thur 5 Feb, from 1pm - SUWN Protest, Arbroath Job Centre Arbroath Job Centre, Chalmers Street, Arbroath
SACC supporter Tony Cox has been threatened with arrest if he attends the scheduled SUWN (Scottish Unemployed Workers Network) protest in Arbroath on Thursday. He was arrested outside the centre last Thursday. He had been at the centre to assist and advocate for a vulnerable claimant. Centre staff denied his right to do this and called the police. He has been charged with threatening behaviour, refusing to give his name and address and resisting arrest.
Tony was visited by two police officers on Wednesday evening to warn him that if he attends the scheduled protest meeting at Arbroath JC this Thursday he would be risking arrest for breaching his bail conditions. In fact, there is nothing in the bail conditions that forbids him from being in the vicinity of Arbroath JC. Tony says he will therefore be going along to the protest.
Please go along to show your solidarity if you can, and circulate to anyone you know who lives near Arbroath.
Event on Facebook
We trust that the police will facilitate this legitimate protest and will respect Tony's right to participate in it.
SUWN Defence Campaign meeting, Wednesday, 4th February, from 7pm, The Clubbie, Raglan Street, Dundee.

Stop The Israeli Genocide.

A call for all those who, in and around Glasgow, who want a better world, come and show your anger at the vicious Israeli aggression in Gaza, and show your solidarity with the people of that brutal Zionist open air prison, that is Gaza. Public opposition and protest broke the Apartheid regime in South Africa, it can stop the genocide of the Palestinian people.

An appeal from SACC:
Sat 12 July - Stop Attacking Gaza (Glasgow Demo)

1pm corner of Gordon Street, Buchanan Street, Glasgow
Palestinians blockaded inside Gaza (the largest open air prison in the world) have been facing a massive onslaught from the Israeli Occupation Force, one of the most powerful militaries in the world.
Stop the Attack on Gaza! End the Siege. End Israeli Apartheid. End the Occupation. Free Palestine!
Demo called by various activists, not by any particular organisation. Everyone welcome

The protest called last week at very short notice was well-attended, lively, determined and welcoming. Let's make this one even better.

Police And The Abuse Of Power.

Scotland has a population of approximately 5 million, yet the Scottish police managed to carry out more than half a million stop and searches in eight months of 2013. Are they working hard to make sure they stop and search the entire population? Surely this number and nature of stop and searches can't be acceptable. We are already spied upon by an array of CCTV cameras in every street in every city, in pubs, buses, supermarkets, etc. and we have recently felt the horror of being spied on from the sky when it suddenly goes dreadfully wrong. We have to put an end to this snooping, spying, constant surveillance type of society. We are bring up a generation that will see it as normal to be scrutinised at every turn, to accept that privacy is a thing of the past. Everybody has the right to the dignity of privacy, and this can only be encroached on when there is "evidence" of wrong doing.

Stop and Search in Scotland is an abuse of power

Scottish police are conducting extra-legal stop and searches that have been banned in England and Wales and potentially violate the European Convention on Human Rights. The Scottish Government should ensure that police stay within the law and that people in Scotland have at least the same rights and protections as people south of the border.
SACC is alarmed by figures released by Scottish Police last week, which show that they carried out more than half a million stop and searches between April and December 2013. Worse still, police say that 70% of these stop and searches were not carried out under the statutory powers available to them. They claim that in these cases they had the "consent" of the people involved and therefore did not need statutory authority.
We would welcome any legal challenge brought by victims of non-statutory stop and searches, and we would like to see the public putting more pressure on the Scottish Government to bring stop and search in Scotland under proper legal control, as it is in England and Wales...

GLASGOW SUPPORTS REFUGEES.

Great demo, marred by cops protecting the fascists.

"Fantastic Refugees Are Welcome Here Demo. 1000 people from many countries and all walks of life, a dozen union banners, all the churches there and great delegations from Birmingham, Sheffield and Manchester!

Disgrace that the police threatened to use Public Order Act to disperse our Rally prematurely on the grounds of public safety and then sneakily marched 20 sdl/bnp into George Sq for 15 mins.
There will be an official complaint about their decision to facilitate these racists /fascists walking through the city when they should have been removed immediately.

A brilliant day and big thanks to all who came and marched.

This is just the start!"

Comment from SACC

The presence on the demo of many asylum-seekers potentially vulnerable to police harassment was no doubt in the minds of the march organisers when they decided not to resist the police threat. Without that factor, we would have been entirely within our rights to call the police bluff and see if they were really willing to arrest peaceful demonstrators, MSPs and trade union leaders.
The behaviour of the police was scandalous. We all need to consider whether "business as usual" can continue with Strathclyde police under these circumstances.
SACC is one of the organisations that gave its official support to the "Refugees Welcome Here" demo. We will give the firmest possible support to any complaint made to Strathclyde Police over these events.
