entertainment.

Wednesday's Red and Black Clydeside Poetry and Music night at Red Rosa's,  was  a great night of pleasant and sometimes moving entertainment. A great mix of guitar, banjo, mouthorgan, singing and poetry. If you missed it don't fret, there will be another one coming along soon. A big thank you to the performers and those who turned up to enjoy the night.

Our Day.

Our day will come, not just by words, but with the crashing of borders, solidarity, organisation and direct action in the name of justice, freedom and peace.

Artists In Solidarity.

Spirit of Revolt's next big event is a special one, in conjunction with thi wurd. It is formed round an event that took place in 1984, in support of the miners strike, by Artists-in-Solidarity, and was called "Writers for Miners". It took place in what was then The Third Eye Centre, now the CCA, Centre for Contemporary Art. It involved a considerable number of well know singers, song writers, musicians, writers and poets, some who sadly are no longer with us. The audio files of the event survived and with the effort of writer James Kelman, the surviving members have been contacted and agreed to have the files made into a CD and use it as a fund raiser for Spirit of Revolt. most of those involved in the original event and who are still doing there thing, have agreed to come and perform on the night of the CD launch. The CD has 21 tracks, and no matter your interest, I'm sure you will recognise most of the artists.
This will be an opportunity to come and enjoy a rich and varied event with some of the best know musicians/artist/writers/poets from our area. The words of some of the poets who are no longer with us, will be read by members of thi wurd.
        It will be held in:
Mono, Kings Court, Glasgow, on November 28th. 2018.

All funds raised will go to support Spirit of Revolt, archives of dissent.

A Night To Remember, And A Calendar!!

The last count down to the musical event you will not want to miss, Spirit of Revolt's fund raiser, on Wednesday 20th December, at The Old Hairdressers, 20-28 Renfield Lane, doors open 6:45, the show gets under way 7pm. It is shaping up to be a night you will remember, see you there.
Spirit of Revolt is run by volunteers, with no affiliation to political parties or trade unions, we rely on our friends and comrades donations and our fund raising efforts to keep this valuable resource growing and available to the general public. This year as well as our annual raffle, we have put together a special Calendar, (A4 size) that no self respecting anti-authoritarian would want to be without. It is unique and informative, it will be on sale at the event on Wednesday, but for those poor individuals who will miss the event, but would like the calendar, drop us a line, john(dot)c(dot)at95@btinternet.com and if you are local to Glasgow we will get it to you within a couple of days. This brilliant anarchist calendar will only cost you a miserly £5.

May Day, May Day, May Day.

In recent years Glasgow's May Day "celebration" has descended into a sedate controlled march through the city, to a hall where we are expected to sit and listen to our political ballerinas spout how the will lead us to the promised land, the word "celebration" seems to have been misunderstood. Well a group us think that it is time we took hold of the word "celebration" and returned May Day to what it was meant to be, a "celebration", a coming together to chat, mix, to create new friendships, to honour or past working class heroes, to strengthen our bounds of solidarity by communicating with each other, a fun day. We also believe that May Day belongs on The Green, or any other public space, where people can come and go as they please.
To that end a group of us got together last year and held a May Day picnic on The Green, it proved to be a success, and we enjoyed an afternoon of music, poetry and face-painting, plus lots of chat and food. So this year we would like to see it grow to an even great "celebration" of our working class traditions. You can help us do this.

The May Day on the Green Committee is organising a May Day picnic for May 1 at 2 pm on the Glasgow Green near the bicycle area (Free Wheel North). Our purpose is to revive a long-standing radical tradition in Glasgow; an event on the Green to celebrate May Day, the day to demonstrate our solidarity with the struggles of working people around the world and to reaffirm our commitment to a new and better world.
Our picnic on the Green will include poetry, songs and fun for children. Everyone brings food to share with others in a communal meal.
We want this to be an inclusive event with everyone who shares our perspective welcome to join us.
We need your support to make the picnic a success:

--The Spirit of Revolt and the Clydeside branch of the Industrial Workers of the World have endorsed the May Day picnic. Help us to get out the word and get more organisations endorsing the event and publicising it. Contact Eric at echester1943@gmail.com
--We want to have bicycles carrying signs that can go around the city on the morning of May 1 to tell everyone to come to the Green. Contact Bob at bob@citystrolls.com
--We are looking for poets and musicians who would be interested in performing at the picnic. Contact John at john.c.at95@btinternet.com
