April 6th.

The streets in the country of Sudan still run with the blood of the people, as they valiantly face down the savagery of the military junta that seized control of their country in October 2021, and still the media shouts only of Ukraine. Another young life lost, a 19 year old youth shot dead by the military during a peaceful protest on the 6th of April. The total of protesters killed during protests by the callous military is now approaching 100, with thousands injured and imprisoned. To sustain such mass protests in the face of such savage brutality stands as testament to the courage and determination of the people of Sudan. They deserve our fullest support and solidarity, their battle is our battle, we are one people like them, facing authoritarian regimes of different shades and guises, but all of them are barriers to freedom.

The following from Enough is Enough:

Our struggling people:

You were the teacher and the book, and you wrote in golden lines the history of tomorrow’s Sudan, the bright Sudan that is dotted with sacrifices and the blood of Sudanese men and women who fulfilled what they promised to their martyred brothers, because tomorrow will inevitably come with the perseverance and determination of our victorious people.

Our hero people:

You have demonstrated to the peoples of the world that on April 6th, this coup will inevitably fall, that it is only a matter of time, and that every drop of blood shed, everyone who gave one of their limbs, and everyone who was arrested or had their property stolen from them must know that the time of accountability is inevitably coming.
Yesterday, our people won another battle against the putschists with their steadfastness, valor, and the sacrifices of their sons and daughters, and they sent in the putschists’ mail (Verily, woe and humiliation are upon you).

State Murders.

These are difficult times and in some cases quite frightening. No matter how difficult our lives may be at the moment, we should never forget that lives of those entrapped in the various states' prison systems, conditions have always been so. Endemic violence, over crowding, unhygienic, and poor to non-existent health care, is the norm for most prisoners.
The state has no interest in changing these conditions for the better, and will deal brutally with any prisoners that try to better these conditions.
I recently posted an article about the death during a hunger strike of a musician in a Turkish prison. Not content with this death the Turkish state sits blindly steeped in its inhumanity while another prisoner is nearing death in the same prison. They will let the prisoner die, but there is a chance that if there is enough public outrage across the planet or even Europe, they might just do something to stop this cruel and totally unnecessary death, solidarity is our weapon. In most states, inhumanity reigns, but in Turkey and Greece, they have developed it to a much higher level. How much longer will we tolerate this inhumanity to fester in our society.

Mustafa Kocak in Turkey- torture after torture- innocent imprisoned and fighting with death fast.
Dear friends, human rights defenders! we can't stop to write these alarming information to you.          Hear this Voice. Its the elder sister of Mustafa Kocak. She explains that their lawyers are waiting in Izmir for 2 days to see Mustafa but still not allowed to visit him for weeks.
Yesterday the family had a telephone conversation with Mustafa, the prison interrupted the phone call after 6 minutes, while usually he should have right to speak 10 minutes. This was just in the moment the lawyer wanted to talk about his health issue and application for medical treatment.. Sister Mine Kocak says, all doors are closed to get justice, it's an order from above they say. Please help us!
What is above! Justice ministry? We call again all deputies, politicians, responsible in the government's to intervene as far as they are defenders of democracy!
This is the call of the sister of an innocent man who will die or better be killed by Turkish government maybe in the next few days.
Mustafa is on death fast for 290 days against a life sentence only for a fair trial that is rejected to him. Why do we continue to watch this??!

Greece: from the Greek Prisons Updates, by Solidarity translations
Urgent news from Domokos Prisons:
Prisons, the black holes of totalitarianism and dictatorship in the universe of contemporary representative democracy. In D Wing of Domokos prisons, special police forces along with the exterior guard raided Nikos Maziotis’ cell by order of the ministry. They handcuffed him as they messed up his cell, and as we were informed they told him that he was going to be held in disciplinary cells. We have no other information so far except that another prisoners’ cell, whose name we don’t know, was also searched.
Moreover we know that there has been a decision by Domokos prisoners that they would begin mobilizations demanding the de-congestion of the prisons as of today Friday 17th of April. The response of the state and its mechanisms to the demand for de-congestion NOW, is revenge and repression against anything that is moving in a fighting direction. Their purpose is to terrorize and to totally impose the dogma ‘law and order’, a fundamental tool of imposition inside and outside of prison. There will be further updates.

       Urgent news from Malandrino Prisons
Last night a bunch of guards invaded the ward where Giannis Michalidis is held in Z wing in Malandrino prisons. After making a mess of the ward, they departed without any findings. It should be stressed that the search was clearly targeting the comrade, since this was the only ward of the whole prison that a search took place. It is not a coincidence that this is taking place when many prisoners are claiming the de-congestion of prisons, as the ministry is turning the blind eye and mocking them.
Also, last night special police forces raided and took prisoner Vasilis Dimakis from his cell in D Wing of Korydallos prisons. A prisoner who is struggling for many years with all his might against the incarceration conditions in greek prisons. Moreover, searches were made in Korydallos prison.
It is evident that the new far right leadership of the ministry of Justice in total collaboration with the ministry of Citizens Protection are going on an orgy of revenge and repression against any form of resistance that springs out from the detention centers. They are fooling the prisoners with false hopes at a time when the situation inside the prisons is more dangerous than ever. Let them know that prisoners are not alone and that their JUST demands are paving the way…
IMMEDIATELY MEET PRISONERS DEMANDS
IMMEDIATE DE-CONGESTION IN THE PRISONS NOW
original post: https://www.athens.indymedia.org/post/1604511/
Statement of prisoners in D2 Wing in Domokos Prisons:
As of today 17/4 the prisoners of Domokos prisons are beginning mobilizations demanding the de-congestion of the prisons as a preventative health measure in the face of the corona virus pandemic. We begin by refusing lock-down during lunch hours (12-3pm) and work and meals strike beginning from Tuesday 22/4. We agree and support the demands made by women prisoners in Korydallos as well as in the women prisons in Eleonas, where the prisoners revolted on 9/4, after the death of prisoner Azize Deniroglu. As a response to the announced mobilizations, the ministry of Citizen Protection proceeded to make searches in the cells of D2 wing last night (the cells of Varelas and Maziotis), with the obvious purpose of intimidating us. At the same time, they made a punitive transfer of our fellow prisoner Dimakis from the D wing of Korydallos to Grevena prison as a reaction to the Korydallos prisoners mobilizations who are on work strike since 13/4.
It is clear that repression is the only answer of the ministry of Citizen Protection to the mobilizations of prisoners in Domokos, Korydallos, Eleonas, Chania and their spreading to Malandrino, Corfu. Repression began from the Korydallos women prisons, where the response to the lock-down refusal on 20/3 was to transfer Pola Roupa. Then there was the preventative transfer of Maziotis on 24/3 to Domokos prisons, followed by the riot police raid to stifle the revolt in Eleonas prisons after the death of prisoner Azize Deniroglu and it continues with the cell searches in Domokos and the transfer of Dimakis to Grevena prisons. The ministry, despite the announcements of the secretary of counter-crime policy Sofia Nikolaou who, during meetings with prisoners, promised to proceed to immediate de-congestion measures, proves that they have no intention to go ahead with this until prisoners start dying from the corona virus in prisons.

Workers Know Your History, State Murders.

The dark days of Spain's fascist dictator Franco, should not be forgotten. His regime brutally put down any any left-wing opposition in the country by, prison, torture and execution. The last executions carried out under his regime was on September 27, 1975, when 5 individuals were executed by firing squad. Franco died two months later, and some dark clouds lifted from the country of Spain.
From Wikipedia:
The last use of capital punishment in Spain took place on 27 September 1975 when two members of the armed Basque nationalist and separatist group ETA political-military and three members of the Revolutionary Antifascist Patriotic Front (FRAP) were shot dead by firing squads after having been convicted and sentenced to death by military tribunals for the murder of policemen and civil guards. Spain was Western Europe's last dictatorship at this time and had been unpopular and internationally isolated in the post-war period due to its relations with Nazi Germany in the 1930s and the fact that the authoritarian Spanish leader, Francisco Franco, had come to power by overthrowing a democratically elected government. As a result, the executions resulted in substantial criticism of the Spanish government, both domestically and abroad. Reactions included street protests, attacks on Spanish embassies, international criticism of the Spanish government and diplomatic measures, such as the withdrawal of the ambassadors of fifteen European countries.

This was the last use of the death penalty in Spain; following the death of Francisco Franco, two months later, no further executions took place. The 1978 Spanish Constitution largely abolished the death penalty, with the exception of limited cases in times of war, and these exceptions were abolished in 1995. In 2012, a Basque Government commission found that the processes used to convict two of those executed had violated their rights and awarded compensation to their families.

Today's Wild West.

While we here in Scotland. population 5.2 million, are lumbered with a police force that has carried out nine times more stop and searches than New York, population 8.4 million, or London, population 8.3 million, at least the victims are still alive. Take the police force in Pasco in Washington State, population 59,000, they have shot and killed four people in the last six months. This is more than the three years figures for police in the UK, population approximately 62 million. In the last year, they also managed to outstrip the police in Germany, population 80.6 million.
The video shows a shocking misuse of power, the man concerned, apparently he threw rocks at an officer, had obviously stopped running to face the officers, but hit the ground in a hail of bullets, just like a Wild West movie. America, land of the free.
Of course if our Scottish Police chief has his way there is nothing to say that we might not be competing with the little district of Pasco in Washington State.

There Are State Executions, And There Are State Executions.

The state has many ways of killing its opponents, The state's vicious vindictiveness will willing see a person go to their death, especially if that person is one who exposes and fights the brutal repressive activities of that state.
Anarchist prisoner Nikos Romanos is on hunger strike since November 10, 2014, requesting to make use of educational furloughs from prison, to which he is entitled since September 2014. Nikos is currently in Athens general hospital Gennimatas, under a strong custody of the police. Physician Pantelia (Lina) Vergopoulou, who visited him today 28/11, reports that the comrade remains in a critical condition, threatened with life-threatening complications. Late at night over 200 comrades and friends of Nikos gathered once again opposite the hospital to send their direct solidarity (audio).
Anarchist prisoner Yannis Michailidis is on hunger strike since November 17, 2014, as a form of solidarity with the struggle of Nikos Romanos. As of today Yannis Michailidis needed to be hospitalized, too, after he was diagnosed with bradycardia. Yannis is currently in Piraeus general hospital Tzaneio, under a strong custody of the police.
Both comrades stand firm and continue their hunger strike.

Active solidarity across borders! Solidarity is our weapon for success!

10,000 Deaths Is Surely More Than Enough!!

There is horror and anger at the UK deaths in Afghanistan, 444 young people killed in a pointless state adventure since 2001. Admittedly these young people put on a uniform and trained with the expectation that they would have to face the possibility of death, but the blood is still on the state's hands. However, the state is responsible for a greater number of deaths in a much shorter period of time here at home. The state, in 2010 introduced the Welfare Reform Act and tasked ATOS, at a profit, to reduce the disability payments bill. Those on disability did not volunteer, nor were they trained to face possible death, but their death toll under ATOS in three years is more than twenty times greater than the death toll of twelve years in Afghanistan.

London Remembers over 10000 dead after Atos Work Capablity Tests
Disabled activists and supporters came to Parliament Square for '10,000 Cuts & Counting', a ceremony of remembrance and solidarity for over 10,000 who died shortly after the degrading Work Capability Assessments run for the government by ATOS.
No matter how you look at it, in Afghanistan or at the hand of ATOS these shocking deaths are on the governments hands, 10,000 deaths here in the UK in three years and hardly a whisper from that babbling brook of bullshit, the mainstream media, they have other things to report, Wills and Harry are doing “things”. The government is obviously delighted with the work that ATOS does, to the extent that this gang of corporate thugs has over £3 billion worth of UK government contracts. This system is all about making money, they can make money from harassing and bullying, and death is just a by-product, a little collateral damage that can be ignored. Think on these figures, it is not just the 10,000 deaths, though that is horrific enough, it's the humiliation, harassment, stress and anguish from that first interview to the death later on. The destruction of the last period in a disabled person's life. A period when we should be adding care and compassion, instead we heap degradation and misery. This is capitalism, where the god of money rules.

THE STATE, - A COLD BLOODED KILLER.

Troy Davis

The state is the most brutal organisation on the face of the planet, it has no hesitation in sending its own people to foreign lands to kill and maim innocent civilians in their homeland, it will unleash weapons of unimaginable devastation on cities and villages in country after country killing and injuring thousand, and claim the actions are legitimate. These brutal actions do not make the state's cold blooded legalised killing of one of its own citizens any less barbaric.
This is a statement from Amnesty International on the recent execution of Troy Davis.

In the early hours of this morning, after a torturous delay of more than 4 hours, the state of Georgia executed Troy Anthony Davis by lethal injection. Despite the serious doubts about his guilt. Despite millions calling on Georgia to reconsider.
Like you, I am not only sad but outraged that this has happened. I was there last night with hundreds of others at a vigil outside the US embassy. We continued to hope, right up until the last moment, that those with the power to do so would wake up and prevent this injustice. They did not
Today, Georgia didn't just kill Troy Davis, they killed the faith and confidence of Georgians, Americans and Troy Davis supporters worldwide in the US criminal justice system.
My colleague, Wende at AIUSA met with Troy yesterday to convey the support that he has had from all of you. He asked us to deliver this message back to you:
"The struggle for justice doesn't end with me. This struggle is for all the Troy Davises who came before me and all the ones who will come after me. I'm in good spirits and I'm prayerful and at peace." Troy Davis
Soon we will channel all the outrage we’re feeling into redoubling our efforts for all the other Troy Davises. But today, we simply stand in solidarity with Troy’s family on this darkest of days. Send a message to Troy’s family now
You must know that your support has been a huge comfort to Troy and his family. Thank you for everything you have done.
I am Troy Davis. You are Troy Davis. We will not stop fighting for justice.

SAVE TROY DAVIS.

50 Years. Amnesty International.

An appeal from Amnesty International, this could be our last
chance the life of Troy Davis.
A judge in the US state of Georgia has ordered the execution
of Troy Davis to take place on Wednesday 21 September 2011.
After 20 years on death row, Troy has exhausted every avenue
for appeal from the state level to the Supreme Court. We now
 have only one hope: clemency.
The Georgia parole board meets on Monday 19 September.
They could decide to allow Troy’s execution to go ahead as
scheduled – or they could grant clemency and therefore commute
his sentence to life in prison or life without parole.
This is Troy’s last chance to avoid execution.
grant clemency
Over 300,000 of you have already signed a global petition for
Troy, and many more have written to him personally over the years.
But right now we must continue to remind the state of Georgia
that in a matter of life and death there is no room for doubt -
and there are massive doubts in this case:
No physical evidence links Troy to the crime of which he was
convicted.
Seven of the nine non-police witnesses on whose evidence
he was convicted have since recanted or contradicted their testimony.
Many witnesses stated they were pressured or coerced by police.
Nine individuals have signed affidavits implicating an alternative suspect.
As long as there is hope we must continue to fight – for Troy, for his
family, for his fundamental human right to life and to be spared this
ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment.
These are dark days for Troy and all of us who have supported
him over the years – but remember: execution is not inevitable.
I will be in touch soon to update you on events and any other ways
you can help. However, for now it is essential that you
Time is fast running out for Troy.
In hope,

WRONGLY CONVICTED.

There are lots of reasons why there should be no such thing as the death penalty. There is the cold blooded barbarity of deciding to kill someone, preparing the site for the killing, people and method being selected to do the killing and the actual act of someone or group actually carrying out the killing. Then of course there is the fact of giving someone or institution the right to life or death over another human being, but above all that, there is the catalogue of innocent people who have spent years in prison for crimes they did not commit and those executed who were later proved to be innocent.
The following is just a very small list from America of those who were convicted of crimes they never committed,a is not unique in this field, here in the UK we have had innumerable case of people serving years in prison for crimes they never committed, thankful, in the UK we don't have the death penalty.

The U.S. justice system is far from perfect, and the evidence is all in the numbers. According to the Innocence Project, there have been 273 post-conviction DNA exonerations in the United States, and 17 of these people have served time on death row. Some of these cases happened when DNA testing wasn’t available, and others were caused by human and systematic errors, but either way, these innocent inmates have paid an unfortunate price. Here are 10 infamous inmates who were wrongly convicted.
