Dreamers.

The news feeds us with tales of woe, fashions us visions of doom and dread, paints an illusion that only the concerted action of our caring government can get us out of this mess, but deep down you know there is another way, far removed form saving the economy and herd immunity.

  WALK WITH THE POETS.

My head has had enough of you,
you doomsday sooth-sayers, and
rationalists, that trap us in the world that is.
Go weave your tales of “can't be done”
to the dead, and those of no imagination.
I want to walk with the utopian,
the dreamer and the poet,
laugh with the child and sing with the wind.
Run with the deer, not with “the market trend”
Enough of, “this is the way it has to be”,
a world of poverty, wars and inequality.
Now, I'll create the world I want to see,
A world of sharing, peace and liberty.
I want the children to plan tomorrow,
the adult help them get there,
trees and flowers our treasured possessions,
with birds and animals their keepers.
Who wants a world that chains us to mortgage,
binds us to a labouring day, just to eat bread?
Who wants to spend their life, feeding fat-cats
while their own children go hungry?
No, this is not the world that has to be,
in our foolishness and misplaced trust,
this is a world that has slithered over us,
poisoning our mind, putrefying our spirit.
Let's call on the poet, let's welcome the dreamer,
let's take council with the utopian,
They'll help us create a better world for all.

You-topia.

I found this film, informative and inspiring, though there is hardship and bitter struggles, it unfolds in poetic beauty, its narrative is woven with hope and determination and a strong reminder, as the film says, "Remember, you are the You-topia." I hope you get as much from it as I did.

I Want To Walk With The Poets And The Dreamers.

Sometimes I look around at the shear scale of the misery, poverty, deprivation and savage deaths that haunt this world, and I'm filled with a feeling of dread and hopelessness, but then again, I think, "no this world has an abundance of wonderful people who are pushing towards that better world for all."  Some may be dreamers, some poets, but all are fashioning a better, a fairer world that we can create.

The Human, A Vegetarian Animal.

Is vegetarianism a call back to our natural state, is carnivorism the root cause of our brutal history and our continuing macho society? An interesting article from arrezafe, that certainly makes a strong case for that argument. The translation is not great but certainly readable.

Like their closest relatives, the great apes, man is basically a fruitarian animal, but with the advantageous option carnivorism. So advantageous that probably saved us from extinction, because when scarce plant foods (for example, because of an ice age or desertification of forests) can be fatal rely solely on them.
The need to get meat in times of severe famine took our remote ancestors to form groups of hunters armed with sticks and stones and prepared to work together in order to increase their chances of success against large dams (the most desirable, but also the most dangerous). And this successful survival strategy had several side effects.
One was the domestication of some wolves and jackals who spontaneously began to participate in the hunt to take the bones and other parts that men would not eat (it did not possess the powerful jaws of carnivores and their digestive systems specialist). The ancestors of our dogs helped locate and harass the prey, and in return a portion of the loot they took. That man found his best friend.
Another consequence of the hunting team was surely the exaltation of violence and increasing social prestige of brute force, thereby relegating women (less corpulent and often limited in physical activity for long periods of gestation ) and the consolidation of male camaraderie. To collect fruits should not be very strong: women, and even children can do as well or better than men; but to face a buffalo or a mammoth should be well provided with muscles and testosterone.

We Need More Utopians.

I have always believed that revolutionaries, activists, dreamers, pursuers of that better world, strivers for Utopia, are the stepping stones to social justice, they carry that better world in their hearts, with the burning desire that we should all enjoy its fruits. Today the world is a harsh and cruel place, not by nature, but by this man made system of global capitalism. The free market, neo-liberal, financial dictatorship, that dominates all aspects of our life, binds us to exploitation, inequality and injustice, and like a cancer, is destroying the planet.  Now, more than ever in our history, we need the dreamers, the seekers of Utopia, those who still refuse to accept that the corporate free market is the only game in town. Those who still believe that there is a better way and a better tomorrow, if we will only grasp at the dream.
Sometimes when you read something, there is a passage that with clarity and accuracy seems to say all that you are trying, to say. I find this short paragraph from the Introduction: Open Utopia falls into that category.
Yet we need Utopia more than ever. We live in a time without alternatives, at “the end of history” as Frances Fukuyama would have it, when neoliberal capitalism reins triumphant and uncontested. There are still aberrations: radical Islam in the East, neo-fascist xenophobia in the West, and a smattering of socialist societies struggling around the globe, but by and large the only game in town is the global free market. In itself this might not be so bad, except for the increasingly obvious fact that the system is not working, not for most people and not most of the time. Income inequality has increased dramatically both between and within nations. National autonomy has become subservient to the imperatives of global economic institutions, and federal, state, and local governance are undermined by the protected power of money. Profit-driven industrialization and the headlong rush toward universal consumerism is hastening the ecological destruction of the planet. In short: the world is a mess. Opinion polls, street protests, and volatile voting patterns demonstrate widespread dissatisfaction with the current system, but the popular response so far has largely been limited to the angry outcry of No! No to dictators, No to corruption, No to finance capital, No to the one percent who control everything. But negation, by itself, affects nothing. The dominant system dominates not because people agree with it; it rules because we are convinced there is no alternative.

TEAPOT COLLECTIVE INTRODUCTION TO ANARCHY, PAGE 12.

Well it is time for another wee page from the Teapot Collective Introduction to Anarchy, enjoy page 12. You can look back at page 11 HERE.

     ---and forests grow again.
But this is silly utopia, and anarchists are hopeless indealistic dreamers who must be totally miserable when confronted with reality.
Actually no. Anarchists have a vision of what life could be like, but we try to live it in the here and now, in many different ways.

This society is quite blatantly showing its flaws. Many people are pissed off with the way things are run, from ecological destruction to the misery and monotony of everyday life. You have to spend most of your time working your arse off for someone you probably don't like or something you don't care about and then struggle to pay bills while being pressured to buy more consumer crap.  It is also difficult to build up friendships, when there is a general air of mistrust, deceit, and society's based upon the motto, 'you have to fuck people over to survive'.
Many will not swallow all the lies anymore and also see the futility of voting. But a general mood of cycicism and apathy has been created.
We want people to get past this. Let's talk about our dreams and desires.
