Expropriation.

Wouldn't it be nice if supermarkets were places where you picked up the necessities of life, instead of places where you are obliged to spend the crap wages you get from your lousy job, all so that you are a unit of profit for this insane, unjust, unequal, crap economic system.
This from Act For Freedom Now:
Expropriation of OK super market, in Exarhia – Athens
Few days ago we decided to join the operations that are taking place around the area of Exarchia contributing as we want and we can to liberate our neighborhood from the presence of the capitalist super markets…. But at the same time we understand and we like all the attacks by our comrades. Against the suppression that we feel every day on our skin or in a psychological way..from the mercenaries of the state, so called police. Against the gentrification of the area by luxury and expensive cafeterias etc..
We perceive Exarchia as a revolutionary field of resistance and we think that is unacceptable and a big contradiction to compromise with this situation. We are hostile to every form that is feeding capitalism. The gentrification is here..is an indirect attack to corrupt, infiltrate and poison the characteristics of this area.. It happened many times, in many places in the past.. An example is Plaza de Sol in Madrid.. A square that from instructional environment turned into a lifestyle meeting point.
So stop the invasion of our squats, of our neighborhood and open your fucking capitalist spots somewhere else, or we will be every time more active in the resistance.

FREEDOM FOR PANAGIOTIS Z.
FREEDOM FOR OUR COMRADES IN PRISON
GET THE FUCK OUT FROM EXARCHIA

An Important Date For Your Diary, January 26.

Another call from North Kelvin Meadow for solidarity on Tuesday, 26th. January. This is a very important day for the Meadow, and the residents of the area, indeed for Glasgow. On that day, the men in suits are coming out of their corridors of power at the Kremlin in George Square, to view the meadow, to see how best they can carve it up, to hand to their corporate friends, the developers. Year by year community green spaces disappear from our city, to be replaced by business premises or houses that the locals can't afford. So bit by bit all public assets vanish into the clutches of the corporate world. The city without its green spaces is a tarmac privately owned market square, where you have access by their permission, permission that they can withdraw at any time. We must always defend what green spaces we have within the city, not just as public assets, but for the quality of life, for the health and well-being of our kids, and future generations.
North Kelvin Meadow
Hi
Please come out to show support when the Council's Planning Committee come to make a site visit at *approx 9.45am on Tuesday 26th January 2016* . They will come and leave by bus, parking at the Kelbourne street entrance to the land.
*Also please come to a demo straight after, outside the City Chambers on George Square as the Planning Committee meet inside at 11.30am* to discuss whether the land be sold off to New City Vision Ltd to build 90 houses. They will also decide on The Children Wood Group's planning
application which is wanting to keep the land as it is, a wild green space for community use.
Ian Black will be making the presentation at the hearing on behalf of North Kelvin Meadow. Ian lives on Sanda Street and was actually the person who organised the original planting of trees and grass back in 1994. The wood and meadow we see today comes from that initial seed source. They were spurned on to do that by the Council taking away the goal posts in 1993 as they didn't want to maintain it as a sports pitch.
Needless to say this is a crucial time for the land and its future. We feel over this last 8 years in particular (North Kelvin Meadow started in Oct 2008) we've made a very strong case for the land to remain as it is and not get destoyed. Council and Government policy backs that up but alas sometimes Councils don't follow their own policy!
Thats why we need you out that morning, to show your support so we win this planning committee vote. There will be A3 posters given out on the day for you to hold up should you wish.

Solidarity In The Community, Solidarity Between Communities.

The people will make progress when there is solidarity within the community and solidarity between the communities. Here is a opportunity to show that solidarity.
Support the Meadows community space!
Community Gathering + Bonfire @ North Kelvin Meadow & the Children's Wood Saturday, 16 January at 10:00am - 10:00pm
North Kelvin Meadow, Sanda Street / Kelbourne Street / Clouston Street, G20 8PU
In anticipation of the council's site visit on 26th January to determine the future of the meadow and woods, we're organising a large gathering on Saturday the 16th to bring the community together in support of the space. The Children's Wood will be running the event from 10am until 2pm. Afterwords there will be a bonfire starting around 3pm and continuing into the night.
During the day there will be big marquees set up and attractions include home baking from the local community, tea and coffee and various workshops. Knit Wild will be running a knitting workshop making items for yarn bombing the meadow on the day of the council site visit, and there will also be a banner making workshop taking place. The usual outdoor learning group will be running with outdoor play activities open to all children, and there will also be storytelling happening, as well as a capoeira workshop.
In the evening there will be an open jam session around the fire - please bring along your instruments if you play! There will be several tarpaulins around the fire area for rain cover, and we also hope to provide hot drinks.
The children's wood will be running a stall during the day providing campaign info and adding people to the mailing list (the list will be around all evening too). There'll be folk around all day from morning until late: come along for half an hour or the whole day - bring your children, parents, dogs, grannies, friends etc.

See you all on Saturday!

TAKE BACK THE STREETS.

What a good idea, but simple, could it catch on here?
This from The Greek Streets:

Take back the Greek streets, with art. from Ross Domoney on Vimeo.
As part of Athens fringe festival, a bus full of artists hits Athenian neighbourhoods as well as central districts. The idea is to encourage people to take back their squares with colourful forms of art. Activities like this would encourage people to gather, provoking discussion on how to take action against harsh cuts, that are being pushed amongst many spheres of Greek society. I could not help but smile filming this, in a city that has had all too much of a dark climate recently.
