Dog Food.

 Wild and free.

Follow up on yesterday's blog on the Grand National race. During yesterdays racing one horse was "put down" after it fell at the first fence, two more were taken by horse ambulance for further assessment. Breeders and race horse owners are not interested in horses that can't perform at the top of the range, and earn lots of money for their owners, so there is every chance these two animals could end up has horse meat. Just one of the callous cruelties that we tolerate so that the rich can get richer.

Yesterday's winner?

For years, there's been horse meat in hamburgers, lasagnas, raviolis, tortellinis, sausages, prepared spaghetti bolognese, bottled bolognese sauce, chili con carne, shepherd’s pie, moussaka, many other “meat dishes,” frozen and not, cheap and expensive.
The list of “tainted” foods grows by the day all over Europe, and along with it, the size of one of the biggest crises of the modern processed food industry.

RIDDEN TO DEATH -- FOR CASH!!

This week has seen 5 horses killed at one race course, Cheltenham. Of course the media portray the event as a fun affair, when in actual fact it is a cold blooded money making machine. Millions of pounds of cash passes through hands in bets, prize money, sponsorship and of course breeding and training fees for the winning stables. The horses are not treated as animals but as cash producers and if they don't produce the cash they are disposed of rapidly. The poor beasts are worked literally to death and the number that die in training is always swept under the carpet and referred to as an unfortunate accident. It isn't, it is the direct result of pushing the beast to their limit, in the hope of that cash flow coming to that particular stable. Deaths of race horses is far from the odd unfortunate accident it is part and parcel of a very cruel and brutal cash making industry. The number that die or are "put-down" during a race is a crime, these deaths are for no other reason other than to make some very rich people richer, the horse is just a disposable tool.
In a society where money governs everything you do, and controls your quality of life, everything is expendable, life and death are just events that alter the accountants balance sheet. In this society horse racing is not a sport, it is a lucrative industry controlled by big money, to make bigger money and so what if some horses die cruelly and painfully, to the bosses, it is no more than an inconvenience, there is always another poor beast ready to be thrown onto the conveyor belt.
This is just March and the number of race horses killed on the race course this year alone is horrifying. The list below is from HorseDeath Watch.

WHY DO WE KILL HORSES?

We kill horses to make money for the big bookmakers and their cronies, the rich horse owning fraternity. The Grand National horse race is coming up and no doubt another few horses will be killed during that event. Last year's race saw 4 horse killed in what is not a horse race but an obstacle course where it is more luck rather than skill that will say who wins and who survives. Last year's winner was a 100 to 1 shot, so not rated as the best horse in the race.
In this country, the UK, over the year, 500 horses have been killed while racing or had to be put down due to injury while racing. This is a horrendous price to pay for what is supposed to be a sport. It is sometimes referred to as "the sport of kings" and I find this very apt, as kings never really bother who gets killed for their pleasure or power as long as it isn't them. Horse racing is big business and so as long as the big boys continue to make money from it, then it will never be taken into account how many horses die for that profit. It is like corporate business the world over, profit first, profit second and profit above all else. As long as there is big money in horse racing then horses will be pushed to and beyond their limit, it is not a sport, it is a business, it is only the punters that are fooled into thinking that it is a sport and continue to fund it on the illusion of making money. However rationalism tells you, that if the punters make all the money, then the bookmakers would pull out. When death is a very strong possibility it is no longer a sport. If it were the jockeys that were being killed at this rate there would be an outcry, but horses? And they don't even have a choice in the matter.
