Storms.

Another bulletin, magazine, serial, call it what you will, but the more the merrier. Our literature should be on ever street corner, every workplace, it should be read, discussed and ideas put into practice. The only way to get people to pick up your ideas is to make them easily available. When people start to really want to change society and they look around for ideas, and they will, if our ideas aren't on the table, then they will not be pick up. Our literature is our message of hope, a well of ideas for that better world for all.

This one one is Storm Warnings, issue 45 (September 15, 2021) :

“Reality has never taken the imagination hostage to such an extent as it has in these last days. Our desires and our wildest dreams are dominated by an invisible catastrophe that threatens and confines us, tying our hands and feet to the shackle of fear. Something critical is being played out right now around the unfolding catastrophe. Ignoring the few Cassandras who have been issuing warnings for decades, we have now moved from abstract ideas to concrete facts. As the current emergency with all its prohibitions demonstrates, what is at stake is not only the possibility of survival, but something much more important: the possibility of living. This means that the catastrophe that affects us today is not so much imminent human extinction – to be avoided, we are reassured from above and below, thanks to an absolute obedience to the experts of social reproduction – but rather the invasive artificiality of an existence whose omnipresence prevents us from imagining the end of the present.”

Septic Isle.

I couldn't help re-posting this comment left by Loam on my article on the Cop-Out-26 Carnival of Illusions. Thanks Loam.

THIS SEPTIC ISLE – by Mike Cashman, inspired by the work of William Shakespeare

This sorry state of things, this septic isle,
This den of crony works, this dreadful mess,
This other pigsty, this great fest’ring pile,
This coven of the knaves that won’t confess.

I speak not of the land and people fine,
But government that’s in place by deceit
That’s had so many reasons to resign
But sent integrity into retreat.

This open flouting of all moral rules
For profit and backhanders they call fees,
This treatment of us as so many fools
They think won’t see the wickedness and sleaze,
Or else will brush it off as “All act thus”,
And tolerate wrongdoing with no qualms,
As p’litical manoeuvres on a bus,
Ignoring all the consequential harms.

This focus just on how much cash they hoard,
With ethical good standards in the bin;
That Ministerial code that’s just ignored,
With blind eye simply turned on any sin.

Determination that there’ll be no lessons learned;
This attitude that rules are not for them,
That if you break the rules they’re overturned,
That no wrongdoing will they e’er condemn.

This land with better past, this much loved land,
That had good reputation far and wide,
Is now leased out, by dirty oft bribed hand,
Like to a criminal that does not hide.

Britain, bound in with the triumphant sea,
Is falling fast and left its soul behind
Contaminated now; as PPE
Has dodgy deals and crony contract signed.

That Britain, with ambitions global claimed,
Hath made a shameful conquest of itself.
And never will the Government be blamed
For damage they have done to wealth and health;
Integrity’s another empty shelf.

….with thanks and apologies to William Shakespeare.

Angry Youth.

What a heart warming sight it was in Glasgow today, to see thousands of young people take to the streets to voice their anger and disgust at the powers that be for the way they are plunging the planet into extinction. They are alive to the lies and the illusions that are being spun around their phoney, going green. The kids are wise to you lot and they are angry and prepared to take to the streets to vent their righteous anger and change the direction in which the present system is dragging them. They are the ones who will pick up the price tag for this plundering and pillage of the Earths resources for the personal gain of the few pampered privileged parasites. George Square was a microcosm of the planet's people, there were young people from all over the world, letting the powers that be, that they have had enough. Join them tomorrow, November 6th. no matter where you are, tomorrow is world day of action by the young and the old, and those who wish the kids and grand kids to have a planet they can live on with safety, comfort and a future.

Cop-Out.

Just a few home truths about the Cop-Out-26 Carnival of Illusions as you plan for Global day of ACTION November 6th..

Our campaigners have labelled COP26 as the least accessible climate summit ever, amid chaotic queues and delegates being denied access due to severe capacity issues.
“This climate summit isn’t just the least accessible ever and a chaotic shambles, it’s grossly unjust. When so many people from the world’s most impacted countries weren’t able to make it, and delegates are being told to ‘dial in’ from their hotel rooms – something is seriously wrong.” - Dorothy Guerrero, COP26 Coalition spokesperson.

DNA etc..

As technology advances so does the state's use of that technology. Ever larger data bases are built with more and more of our details on file and the pandemic was a boost for this data gathering exercise. The state now has the ability to tag everybody through apps and vacs passports, and the ever increasing gathering of DNA, making it much easier to enforce any legislation they care to introduce. Freedom is the enemy of the state and it will do everything in its power to curtail any attempt by individuals who work towards freedom, and data bases are one of its weapons..

The following article from Act For Freedom Now:

It is a fact that worldwide the system of monitoring and control using biometric data is growing with the creation of data banks for everyone with the cooperation of State, European and international organisations.
At the same time as the majority of society is subjected to the violence of the State and capital, the increasing impoverishment and the rising cost of living, the beating of strikers and students by the repressive forces, the murders by the cops, the killings in the sweatshops of wage slavery , the repatriations and murder of immigrants.
At the same time they are also expanding their legal arsenal and sharpening their attack on anyone and everyone who raises their head and anyone and everyone who attempts to resist modern totalitarianism. The Greek State is seeking to use trumped-up charges to break the morale of those who are struggling. We, the fighters, the comrades, the comrades declare our presence, we do not retreat, we stand on the side of every exploited and oppressed person, on the side of the persecuted and imprisoned comrades. Anyway, in the beginning DNA identification comes for the fighters, then it will be established for all.

Sleaze.

Most ordinary people who have taken an interest in what our political ballerinas get up, have always accepted the they have at some point in their political career walked the corridors of corruption. Every politician leaves their parliamentary "career" much richer than they when they entered, and I mean MUCH richer. Can you and I say that? However since bumbling Boris, the dangerous buffoon engineered his power grab, it appears that the Tory party now wears sleazy, corruption and greed as badges of honour, openly pinning them to their lapels with pride. I suppose drunk with power they now display their disgust and disrespect for the peasants with open joviality.

Ex-minister MP Owen Paterson found a nice little earner.

The latest case of ex-minister MP Owen Paterson stuffing his pockets with fat fees from firms for which he was lobbying. This is blatantly breaking the rules so he was to be suspended. Being a buddy of Bumbling Boris and some of his pocket lining cronies, they decided that they couldn't allow sleaze to spoil their mate' career, so they simple changed the rules, hey presto, he is back in business, according to his two-faced friends, his character intact. When will we ever learn.

Our Agenda.

So the pampered and the privileged have taken centre stage in this Cop-out-26, Carnival of Illusions, well according to the media, but the streets are alive with the alternative and real answers. The "plans" of the privileged and powerful will only lead to more consumption, great production, ever increasing growth and an an increase in the wealth for that pampered few. Meanwhile the world will roll merrily on to destruction, while they continue to worship at the alter of "the economy". It will take real change to have any chance of stopping this human suicide mission and that real change can only come from the united voices of the people. Letting the polluters, devout followers of the insanity of capitalism, make the plans to save the planet is like asking the foxes to look after the chickens while we go to sleep. Rather than working to get the great and the good deliver on their false promises, the people have to take control, set the agenda, and carry it through, any alternative reaps disaster.

As the global climate summit COP26 begins in Glasgow, we're hearing another round of promises from world leaders to finally do something to tackle climate change.

But to get the elite to act on their pledges, we need to add a crucial missing ingredient: the voices of the people.

That's why Ripples is supporting the Global Day of Action for Climate Justice this Saturday, organised by the COP26 Coalition of campaign groups

Leaflets.

This month for our “Read of the Month”, Spirit of Revolt, instead of a pamphlet booklet or serial, we have chosen a bundle of leaflets, all with interesting information or comments, most still as relevant today as they were the day they were produced. Put together they make for some very interesting reading and some great ideas.

Hypocrits.

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, a wonderful Victorian building, free entry and always busy. Generations of Glaswegians have wandered it corridors, families groups and individuals, Glasgow loves its magnificent Art Gallery. Kelvingrove

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is a museum and art gallery in Glasgow, Scotland. It reopened in 2006 after a three-year refurbishment and since then has been one of Scotland's most popular visitor attractions. Wikipedia
However, the powers that be in the Kremlin in George Square, our city council, decide to close it to the general public during the Cop-out-26 Carnival of Illusions. On the evening of November 1st.it was reopened, not to the public, but to the carbon spew entourage from around the world. They are guests at an "event" where they will be wined and dined. All the "great and the good" are there, Prince Charles, climate change hypocrite with his helicopter, personal train, limousines etc.. Other members of the Windsor family are there, each of them with a carbon footprint equivalent to a small village. They will be addressed by the Queen, via video link, while she sits in opulence in her humble abode, with its acres and army of servants and security. They will all spout about how we have to change the way we live, of course the mean you and I, not them. They will continue with their life of obscene opulence and their massive carbon footprint. Hypocrisy seem a far too mild a word to name their spewing of platitudes, it is difficult to understand why they aren't laughing out loud at their own empty words. Are they too ignorant to realise that they are part of the problem and can never supply us with the answer.

Legal!!

The state makes the rules and it will always formulate them to protect the status quo. What was legal to day can be illegal tomorrow and what was illegal to day could be legal tomorrow. However we should always remember, those who make the rules control the game, and they have the privileged position of changing those rules as they see fit. So playing to their rules means that you can never win

The following is an interesting article from The Collective:

“Potential illegality comes within the law today, but the farseeing eye of the censor looks ahead to foresee its possible outcome. In the same way social deviance today might be a possible object of study or surprise, tomorrow it could become a concrete manifestation of social subversion.” – Alfredo Bonanno, Illegality
The jury’s still out on what they’ll call this moment in His-story. Perhaps we’re too close to know. They may chalk it up as a post-Something: post-Trump, post-George Floyd, post-COVID (though this one is still premature). Regardless of name, anarchists traveling through moments, like this one, accumulate baggage they carry onto the next trail: suitcases brimming with perspective, experience, joy, heartache. A particularly heavy piece of baggage comes from the current moment: new laws to govern the new normal.

As a result, new transgressors are named.

Previously legal acts are now illegal. The free movement of bodies is restricted through health passports. And curfews, whether for virus or riots, illegalize the act of existing in space and time – the potential consequences for allegedly violating these rules are put on display in the sexual assault and murder of Sarah Everard by police. Virtual spaces are not immune to this shift, either. “Formal” illegality, such as hosting certain anarchist media online, is reclassified into “real” illegality in the form of terrorism charges, as seen in the case of Toby Shone [1]. In this way, an existing political critique of distributing anarchist literature transformed into an illegal social critique due to the context of unrest. This, then, justified the convenient enforcement of post-9/11 laws – legal baggage from a previous state of exception – in the same way that subversive music, books, and sexualities continue to be censored.

“Insurrection leads us to no longer let ourselves be arranged, but rather to arrange ourselves” – Max Stirner, The Unique and its Property

While the enforcement of laws is largely unremarkable to the irreverent anarchist, it can be beneficial to reflect on how we are arranged in this new legal landscape to anticipate and outmaneuver new attempts to restrict everyday life. Past examples of shifting legal landscapes include the popularization of surveillance cameras over the past 50 years and heightened security practices we still rely on as a result of the Green Scare. How will our current legal context in the new normal influence how anarchists arrange themselves illegally in the future?

Call this an exercise in precognition, to live in illegality more effectively.

What acts are likely to shift from “potential” to “real” illegality in the near future? Will mutual aid projects, like Food Not Bombs, be able to occupy the same space and time they did before, or will there be an uptick in conflict? How do anarchist media projects continue to rely on a corporatized, State-cooperative internet? This same skepticism can be extended to our individual reliance on "private" and "secure" tech used to communicate, like Protonmail and Signal. What other common tactics or tools are outdated in our new context? What mindsets don’t apply anymore? How does illegality look down the trail?

How far will laws in the new normal go? Will there be Voight-Kampff tests to differentiate anarchists from law-abiding citizens? Will legal changes be swift in the form of executive orders and armed police, or will requirements, regulations, and bans slowly devour us from the inside out? Can this be anticipated or stopped?

As anarchists...how do we not get caught?

On The Streets.

It's happening all over our city, groups are matching, protesting in dozens of small groups, who we hope will come together as the days go on during this Cop-Out-26 Carnival of Illusions. All have the same message, they don't trust the powers that be to deliver the necessary changes to end this ecological disaster being foisted on us all by the economic system of capitalism. The world has a to do list, but capitalism is incapable of  doing anything about the suicide mission it has set in motion. It is going to take the combined voices, and actions of the people across the globe to set the agenda and carry it through.
