         A small bunch of Glasgow groups , RBC, Glasgow Keelie, Spirit of Revolt have been putting on events leading up to and beyond May Day. the idea is to make more people aware of the importance of May Day to the ordinary people, our continuing fight for a fair and just world for all.
          There will be a special event on May 1st. in Red Rosa Calton 159 London Road. Come along and help celebrate International Workers Day, make new friends, all welcome.

Veganism!!

 

             Spirit of Revolt continues with its Thursday evening open night. The next event will be Thursday 8th. February in the Electron Club at the CCA 350 Sauchiehall Street Glasgow, 6:30pm to 9:00pm. The subject matter will be veganism and its politics. Speakers will be there but it is an open night, so bring your thoughts and your question and any snippets you wish to add. These event are free and all are welcome.

           Spirit of Revolt Archive has organised a series of free events all taking place at the CCA 350 Sauchiehall Street Glasgow. The next one up is 6:00pm December 7th. It is a talk/discussion: STRIKES - 1787 The Strike of the Glasgow Weavers talk by Elspeth King plus IWW Union organiser current events, followed by an open discussion. All welcome.

Learning From The Past, Glasgow.

       A last reminder of our second event marking the anniversary of the great working class victory in 1915, when the people of Glasgow, lead by the women of the city, forced the government of the day to introduce the Rent Restriction Act, freezing all rents across the country, until after the war. Let's remember it, celebrate it, and learn from it.

       A tribute to the Clydeside women and shipyard workers who brought victory to the 1915 Glasgow Rent Strikes through class unity and direct action.
       Assembling on Sunday, 17 November, 2019, at 1pm, Buchanan Street steps, then to GOMA, then to the old Sheriffs Court in Ingram Street, the destination of the mass march on this date in 1915, then to George Square for a celebration of our history and dreams.
       In Their Words-Rent strikers' speeches from the contemporary newspapers. Spoken and written by Mary Barbour, Helen Crawfurd, Agnes Dolan, Mary Burns Laird, and Mary Jeff - presented by Strong Women of Clydeside.
       'Human megaphone'/Open Mic for reading aloud and sharing thoughts, songs, poems. Taking our words to the pavement with coloured chalk!

       This event co-hosted by members of City Strolls/Radical Imagination, Industrial Workers of the World, May Day on the Green, Scottish Peace Network, Scottish Tenants Organisation, and Strong Women of Clydeside.

Glasgow's Workers City.

        A wee reminder, just a couple of days to go before the, not to be missed, Spirit of Revolt's FREE event, Show and Tell, Workers City, at the Mitchell Library. Workers City was a series of events that took place in Glasgow 1989-1991, organised by writers, artists, poets, activists and a melody of other Glaswegian stalwarts. It was a counter to the events being organised by Glasgow City Council during Glasgow's European City of Culture year. Some of those present for this open discussion were involved in organising the Workers City event, and it should prove to be both informative and entertaining.

        On display at the event, for your perusal before the open discussion starts will be a selection of material from he Spirit of Revolt Archive, relating to those events during Workers City. Come along look, listen, contribute, enjoy and learn a little bit more about the grassroots history of your city.

Spirit of Revolt's Workers City.

       Spirit of Revolt's latest Show and Tell FREE event is, from the feed back, looking like a very popular event. The line up of speakers is a roll-call of some of Glasgow's well known names, most of whom were involved in that wonderful event from the 1990's, Workers City, which was a counter organisation to Glasgow's European City of Culture. It highlighted that other culture, that of the ordinary people of the city and further afield.

     A lot has changed in our city since 1990, so this is a not-to-be-missed, event to remember the past, but also to see and assess where we are in today's culture of the ordinary people of our city.

     Approximately two weeks to go, so mark your diaries, tie a knot in your fingers, so as not to forget, keep that slot free, so that you can learn about the enthusiastic and radical thoughts and actions of that time, enjoy the open discussion, add your piece and take part as you please. Glasgow Workers City Free Event.

       It is getting closer, mark your diary, it is only a few weeks away, Spirit of Revolt's Show and Tell. Our regular free event held in the Mitchell Library, where we show case a particular section of the archive, and where the public can have a look at the material ask questions, etc. This is followed by an open discussion, this session will be on the subject of Glasgow's Workers City, a series of events that ran counter to Glasgow's European City of Culture 1990. Some members of the Workers City group will be in the audience, to say their piece and answer questions, the discussion will be opened by Workers City member Tommy Kayes. This should prove to be a very interesting and informative lunch break. Also members of Spirit of Revolt will be on hand to answer any questions you may wish to raise regarding this archive.

The Natives Are Revolting.

        Spirit of Revolt in its continuing process of making the history of the ordinary people's struggles accessible to the public at large, is working in conjunction with The Mitchell Library, on putting on a free event.
