WHOSE STREETS ARE THEY?

With the Golden Dawn fascists, backed up by the police, making daily attacks on immigrants, or even those who "don't look Greek", the continual physical confrontation between anti-fascists and the Golden Dawn fascists, the latter usually rescued or protected by the police, recent mass arrests of anarchists, and the eviction of long standing squats makes it clear that in Greece, the political struggle has moved from a battle to control the ballot boxes to a battle to control the streets. As the state loses the propaganda battle of keeping the public quiet and subservient, it will move to the more forceful method of control, brute force and repression. This can be a tipping point, who controls the streets, controls the country, the state is well aware of this fact and will pull out all the stops to gain and keep control of those streets. It is what we all face as we increase our resistance to the onslaught of brutal austerity measures. Here in the UK as well as the rest of Europe we are entering the era of bare-knuckle capitalism, as they will not give up on their plans to siphon all public assets into the private corporate world. The will fight their corner hard and viciously, we have no alternative but to fight back with more force than they hit us or capitulate, the choice is ours.
This from Contra Info:
In the evening of January 15th, 2013 antifascists confronted a Nazi group of the Chrissi Avgi/Golden Dawn party in the city of Heraklion, on Crete.
Approximately 30 fascists were passing out their texts for the second time on one of the city’s avenues. A group of nearly 60 antifascists attacked the Nazis, who wore helmets and carried sticks with the national flag. The Nazis ran away in fear, after a five minute’s clash. Only when fascists retreated did two anti-riot squadrons intervene and try to chase off the counter-protesters (as usual, cops and fascists had coordinated themselves well beforehand). After the crackdown of the police that used tear gas and stun grenades, the dastardly Nazis began to throw stones at the comrades from a distance and urged cops to pursue the antifascists.
More than five Nazis were wounded and needed stitches, while they received concussions and had broken limbs, too. At the same time, three antifascists got injured from the stones and needed stitches. Both Nazis and counter-protesters ended up in the same hospital which was on duty, where two anti-riot squadrons made their presence again, in order to safeguard the Golden Dawn members. While solidarians waited for the injured antifascists to leave the hospital, they slashed the tires of four cars belonging to Nazis outside.

CONFRONTATION, -- THEN WHAT?

Golden Dawn's new office sparks riots. More and more Greece seems to be heading to a straight split on the streets with the fascist aided and abetted by the state apparatus, being confronted by massive anti-fascist  and it turning brutal, all the hallmarks of a coup by the military or a civil war. This is what "austerity" brings to the ordinary people, and we are not immune.

Hundreds of anti-fascists riot in the city of Agrinio as police from across Greece protect the newly-opened office of Golden Dawn Nazis
Sunday, November 18, 2012

Agrinio, a medium-sized city of just over 100,000 saw some of the most severe rioting in its history on the evening of November 18th. As the Nazi party Golden Dawn formally opened an office in the city, just opposite the local police station, hundreds of police and Golden Dawn members arrived from nearby cities (but also from Athens, approx 280km away). At the same time, local anti-fascists took to the streets of the city, demonstrating and rioting against the Nazi presence. At least 20 anti-fascists have been detained by the police (at least two of them arrested/charged), while at the time of writing (22:00 GMT+2) the rioting continues.

FROM THE EDGE OF BORDERLINE DEMOCRACY.

This is an email I received recently and think it is worth posting to give it as much publicity as possible. I hope you all do likewise.

Greetings,

I would like to bring a new project to your attention. We are journalists based in Greece, and we have created a new blog, "Reports from the Edge of Borderline Democracy".

We will be posting some shorter texts, opinion pieces etc, but the main effort is to publish extensive reports, in English, on issues affecting politics and society in Greece, so they are as accessible as possible around the world.

You can see our first report on the rise of Golden Dawn, Greece's neonazi party that is rapidly rising, here:

If you like the idea, we would like to ask you to spread the word as much as possible, particularly to non-Greek speakers in other countries.

Best regards,
Augustine

BEYOND RESISTANCE.

I know that I harp on and on about Greece, but I see what is happening in that country as a tide that is coming our way. It is not that Greece is doing something different from the rest of us, it isn't even a self-inflicted wound. What is happening in Greece is being directed by the financial mafia, better known as the "Troika", which as we all know doesn't even sit in Greece. We also know that these policies are the very same policies that are being forced, at the dictate of that same "Troika", on every nation in Europe. We would be naive to believe that somehow these policies will have a different effect on us, than other countries, that somehow the "Troika" will look more favourably on us than it would the Greeks. We are fortunate in so much as by looking closely at what is happening in Greece, we can see the road that the "Troika" is driving the people down.
To be forewarned is to be forearmed. Shall we wait for the decimation of our society, shall we wait for the deprivation and then try to pull ourselves out of the chaos and misery. Shall we wait until our children's' futures are destroyed completely, and hope that the financial markets will look more kindly on us? Or perhaps we could do a George W. Bush and go for a pre-emptive strike? Self defence is not a crime.
Another interesting article from A World to Win:

How we can move beyond resistance

Everyone joining tomorrow’s anti-austerity march in London called by the Trades Union Congress should take heed of what is happening in Greece if we are going to find ways to move beyond resistance to the deepening crisis.
The Greek trade unions this week held their 20th one-day general strike in two years against the absolutely savage cuts in living standards imposed by governments of the left and the right, as well as coalition regimes. Regarding the strikes as short-lived protests, the Greek state is standing firm on behalf of the International Monetary Fund, the European Central Bank and European Union governments – the infamous Troika.
Their riot police are working hand-in-glove with the fascist Golden Dawn to protect the authorities as society edges towards breakdown. Only just in the background stands the Greek army, whose colonels are not averse to staging military coups and taking power as they did from 1967 to 1974.
Despite the widespread hatred of the measures that have reduced many Greeks to penury – to the point where many can’t even afford to bury their dead or obtain vital drugs – the misery is scheduled to worsen, with further pay and pension cuts. One in four are already out of work and job losses are continuing.
Britain’s situation is not like Greece’s, you could argue. But that would be a superficial view. Greece is at the sharp end of a global crisis of capitalism that is driving policy making in every single country.

AUSTERITY = CIVIL WAR!!!!

I'm back from my wee break, and for a few days I lived the idyllic life at a beach in the sun. It was hard to equate the life style there with what is happening across the world. Not too far away from where we were, in a country being lapped by the same sea and bathed in the same warm sun, the people are facing the possibility of civil war or a fascist take over. In Greece where the IMF (International Mankind Fuckers) policies are ripping up the social fabric of the country and driving the people ever deeper into the swamp of poverty, the people are struggling for answers and as usual in these circumstances, the fascist come out of the sewers with their package of vile answers that will bring the people nothing but more misery. The ballot box will not protect the Greek people, it has already given them poverty and deprivation and fascists in their parliament. They have to restructure their society away from the party political system which is driven by power mongers and economic parasites.
This extract from a BBC article is worth reading in full and the video should be seen as a pattern that will be repeated across Europe as the financial Mafia plunder their way across the continent.

Greece's far-right party, Golden Dawn, won 18 parliamentary seats in the June election with a campaign openly hostile to illegal immigrants and there are now allegations that some Greek police are supporting the party.
"There is already civil war," says Ilias Panagiotaros. If so, the shop he owns is set to do a roaring trade. It sells camouflage gear, police riot gloves, face masks and T-shirts extolling football hooliganism.
On the walls are posters celebrating the last civil war in Greece, which ended in 1949. "Greek society is ready - even though no-one likes this - to have a fight: a new type of civil war," he says. "On the one side there will be nationalists like us, and Greeks who want our country to be as it used to be, and on the other side illegal immigrants, anarchists and all those who have destroyed Athens several times," he adds.
You hear comments like this a lot in Greece now but Ilias Panagiotaros is not some figure on the fringes: he is a member of the Greek parliament, one of 18 MPs elected for the far-right Golden Dawn in June's general election.

FROM ATHENS TO NEW YORK?

Capitalism lurches from crisis to crisis, capitalism is crisis. During each of these troughs or financial convulsions, the people suffer more than usual, another feature of these inborn faults in the system is the rise of fascism. As the conditions of the people deteriorate fascism raises its ugly head from some dark corner of the sewers of the system. Capitalism's latest convulsions are world wide and so the stink of fascism is spreading across the globe. It will appear in many guises, not just the jackboots on the streets, though they will call on them when they feel the need. They can come disguised as a helping hand of the poor, to gain a foothold in the community. Greece's fascist group "Golden Dawn" works in that fashion and is rampant and openly violent on the streets in that country, and is more or less given a free hand by the authorities to attack and attempt to destroy any organised resistance to the system. Now New York is to be contaminated by the same group as the have set up camp in that city.

Golden Dawn, G.D. (in Greek, Chrysi Avgi), the neo-Nazi, ultra-nationalistic party, which was recently elected to the Greek Parliament under the pretext of concern over unemployment, austerity and the economy, and while engaging in virulent anti-immigrant rhetoric and anti-democratic, nationalistic activities, has now established a chapter in New York City. Several groups and organizations have already publicly expressed their outrage and have called for immediate action.

SHITHEADS IN EVERY COUNTRY.

It is the normal behaviour of fascist scum, during difficult economic times, to come crawling out the sewers where they normally live, to scapegoat different groups and create divisions in the ranks of the ordinary people. The state will always lean lightly on the fascist scum as they make it more difficult for the ordinary people to organise while this rat bag of vermin roam the streets beating and intimidating their target groups, preaching hate and violence to all those whom they deem to be different from from their mythical stereotypes. You can't reason with vermin, it has to be destroyed or it will destroy all that is decent in people's relationships. This video was Greece, but the shitheads are doing their best to spout their putrid ideology here in the UK as well as most countries in Europe. The anxieties and anger of the people, at the economic onslaught being forced on them, is where they try to sow their malignant seeds. Resistance to their muck should be the aim of all those who hope for justice, freedom and a decent society that sees to the needs of all our people.

This from OMADEON:

The Greek Neo-Nazi Party “Golden Dawn” issued official announcements, that they wanted to “apply the law” to illegal immigrant street-sellers “without a license to sell”. This pretext, however, was proved a shameless lie: -The nazis also destroyed the merchandise of immigrants with official licenses. Some black people (see the videos below) showed their papers to the nazis, but their goods were smashed anyway, after being told that “blacks are unwanted in Greece, anyway”. So, these violent attacks were nothing but pure racism; very similar to Adolf Hitler’s S.A. attacks on Jewish shops, just because they were Jewish, long before the Nazis took power in 1933.

NOT ONE STEP BACK.

Like I keep saying, capitalist "crisis" is always fertile breeding ground for fascists and we have to be ever vigilant that their tainted seeds don't take root in communities.
This from Contra Info:
The historicity of crisis indicates how it leads to an intensification of exploitation, to impoverishment and social fascistization. The exit from the crisis will not come from either the State, or the para-State, or criminal gangs. Our defense against crisis is the relations of mutual aid and mutual support, self-organization, social structures, comradeship and solidarity. Only then can we stand on our feet and preserve our dignity.
The ‘troubling incidents’ (as mentioned derogatory by the local bourgeois Press), which began with the attempts of the Golden Dawn to set foot in Agrinio, are not a ‘vendetta’ between some extremes. They arise from the very history of Agrinio… The society of a town with a profound fighting background, with bloodshed memories of labour struggles, of mass executions and public hangings, cannot let the descendants of informers, collaborates and German-Tsoliades go about pretending to be rescuers in its streets, alleys and farm fields.
Our answer is political and derives straight from the movement!
Not one step back!
Neither in Agrinio, nor anywhere
Crush the fascists in towns and villages

RACISM SUITS THE CORPORATE FASCIST SYSTEM.

As the suffering and chaos in Greece grows by the day, people are looking for answers. Sadly some are finding the wrong answers and are blaming immigrants, and of course there are those that will encourage this view, if it wasn't for the immigrants there would be more for us type of thinking. In most cases migrants are trying to do what we all do, trying to survive in a repressive exploitative system, some are fleeing from violence and/or for their very life, most it is the same system that is brutally assaulting the Greek people, that is responsible for them leaving their own country, they are in the same boat as the rest of us, but perhaps at the sharper end. It is only by unity that we can all hope to overthrow this system that turns ordinary person against ordinary person, while the perpetrators get richer by the day. It suits the corporate fascists that we should be fighting among ourselves, that way they have less to worry about our solidarity bring them down.

 This from THE GREEK STREETS:

Refugees trying to reach safety in Europe get stuck in Greece: Once in Europe, they have to remain in the country they first arrived in. They speak about lack of basic support like housing, clothing and food and daily racist abuse. Not only by fascists like Golden Dawn, but also Greek people – and the police.
This is a first glimpse into an issue that we are working on. We have just returned from a second visit to Greece and heard many stories and witnessed some of the conditions people face in Athens, including a vicious racist attack. Check back for more, and follow us on facebook and twitter to stay up to date.

ECONOMIC CHAOS,--NAZI BREEDING GROUND!

As the economic system in Europe shudders, shakes and splinters, and as the people feel the pain biting deeper and deeper, there is bound to be anger confusion and chaos. This is a perfect breeding ground for the far right, and we are seeing the Nazi scum rising across Europe, they are becoming emboldened. No doubt financed and supported by elements of the establishment. We can mock them and ridicule them, but we ignore them at our peril as they will divide and foster splits among the ordinary people who should be united in their struggle to overthrow the economic serfdom of this capitalist system.
At this moment in time it is wise to look at what is happening in Greece as they are further down the road of that economic chaos than the rest of us, though no doubt we will follow. There the far right Nazis, though only gaining around 6% of the vote, have seats in parliament and are much more visible on the streets, doing their usual intimidation and scapegoating with a renewed brutality. Meanwhile the police look the other way. This is a formula that the establishment will encourage as the economic chaos increases, it is one way of preventing the unity of the ordinary people from taking hold.

The district of Ano Liosia, in NW Athens, has a large Roma population; the community’s relationship with the police has often been tense: last year, a DIAS motorcycle policeman ran over and killed a 6-year old Roma girl.
On Sunday, one DIAS policeman died and another was seriously injured after crashing into a van driven by a Roma man. Both sides claim that the others violated a STOP sign. What has followed since is partly unclear: it is confirmed that the police conducted a large operation in the Roma camp, supposedly in response to the traffic accident, but essentially harassing the camp’s residents. There are also still unconfirmed by very strong leads that the Golden Dawn held a gathering in Ano Liosia tonight, insulting and provoking the locals.
The local Roma have reacted, took to the streets, set a bus on fire (confirmed) and shot toward the police, injuring up to six of them (number unconfirmed). It appears that the situation has calmed down for the time being.
More information as it comes.

Roma, Asian, anybody that is different from them in any way will do as the enemy, as the shit-heads brutally vomit their poison among the ordinary people.

FERTILE GROUND FOR FASCISM.

We should never see what is happening in Greece as something divorced from us here in the UK segment of the corporate fascist's world. The only difference between us and Greece is that they are further down the line of the "Great Austerity Plan", (read "transferring all public assets into corporate hands"). Because of the resistance of the Greek people, we are now hear simperings of a change in tactics with the word "growth" being thrown around, all that "growth" will mean is a slight slowing down of the stripping of public assets, not the reversal. Greece is the front line at the moment and we should always try to be aware of what is happening there, it is a sketch of what we will have to go through as the "Great Austerity Plan" relentlessly marches on. It should not be taken as a given that if the poeople rebel they will all be waving red and black flags, there is a lot of money and power available to those on the other side. One simple tactic being used in Greece by the fascist Goden Dawn mob, is that they went about the poorer areas handing out food parcels, and in time of hunger, the hand that feeds you can seem like your friend.
This from Occupied London:

The future historian will easily draw a line at the end of the Greek Metapolitefsi (the post-dictatorial regime) somewhere between May5th, 2010 and yesterday — the date of the first elections in this new era. Nothing resembles what we used to live a few years ago. As anarchists, anti-authoritarians, people opposed to any form of representation, the electoral process does not concern us. And yet, it is crucial in tracing societal changes — and what is happening in Greece at the moment is immense. For the first time since the Nazi occupation, an openly Nazi party has officially entered the echelons of political power. While the Left celebrates a “victory” it will be unable to capitalise on in any tangible way, few seem to be reading through this temporary, murky shift-around of the mainstream political balance of power.
Society in the greek territory is polarising rapidly. The one pole, the pole of the far-right, the misanthropic facade of the current system of capitalist exploitation, is forming quickly. The crucial task ahead is for our pole to form faster even; for us to understand that the times (not so far) ahead will involve a fight to shift society as a whole in an emancipatory direction. A struggle to keep our cities, our streets, our spaces clean from misanthropic nazi scum. But also, and most importantly, a struggle and a race to occupy the space left behind by a crumbling, retreating system of order; we’d better get going.

ANYONE FOR YOGHURT?

Nice to see these two faced smarmy bastards get their just rewards.
This from eagainst.com.
Antifascists in Greece attacked with yoghurt and eggs a TV news broadcaster, during a live TV interview, because a week before he hosted an interview with the representative of the Greek Neo-Nazi party Golden Dawn. It must be reminded that the aforementioned fascist party was supported in the “manifesto” of the Norwegian mass murderer Anders Breivik, the perpetrator of the 2011 attacks in Oslo, where 93, mostly teenagers, were killed.

SOMEONE'S GOLDEN DAWN FADES!!

This from Occupied London, it is no more than they deserve.

Patras: anarchists storm and trash the newly-opened offices of neo-nazi group ‘Golden Dawn’ in broad daylight
The neo-nazi group ‘golden dawn’ (chrysi augi) is projected to enter the parliament for the first time in the upcoming elections. Ahead of these elections, the group has been trying to open offices across Greece and on Monday (March 12) they opened their office in the centre of the port city of Patras. In response, two days later anarchists marched to the building in broad daylight (should this be in golden dawn?) and trashed them, burning the neo-nazi propaganda inside, smashing up water pipes, doors and walls and throwing furniture out.
The video that follows is from local corporate media.
