Unite Against Fascism.

The racist English Defence League (EDL) had planned a march in Brighton but the consistent opposition to this and previous marches has meant that the EDL have cancelled.  Here in Edinburgh we have planned protests by Pegida from Germany (Sat 21 March) and the home grown Scottish Defence League (Sat 14 March). Let us make the opposition so big, so loud and proud that they never come back again.
Also on 21 March there is a national demonstration in Glasgow, part of worldwide protests with the theme “Stand Up To Racism and Fascism”.
Make sure your voice is heard, please come on the following events:
14 MARCH SDL DEMONSTRATION IN EDINBURGH.
Say no to the racist Scottish Defence League; meet 1.30 at the Scottish Parliament, foot of the Royal Mile.  Keep up to date by liking our Facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/events/415161085309799/

21 MARCH PEGIDA
There has been plenty of media coverage of the first ever march by the anti- Muslim group Pegida in Scotland (see links below). In Germany “Pegida” have built up to having thousands of people on their marches; we can’t afford to let them grow to that size here.
They keep changing the time and location of their protest, the latest is that they will be at Wellington Statue, east end of Prince Street at 8pm. To keep up to date with the latest situation Like our Facebook event  page

21 MARCH; STAND UP TO RACISM & FASCISM NATIONAL DEMONSTRATION
There has been a fantastic range of groups supporting this event, https://www.facebook.com/events/317044925169581
Come along and join in the world wide protest on UN anti-racism day, March 21st.
Assemble 10.30 am, March & Rally 11 am, George Square, Glasgow.
We have a coach going to Glasgow so please get in touch to book a seat.

Solidarity Against The SDL.

A shortened version of the "thank you" from Edinburgh UAF:

Hello friends

Well done lovely people of Edinburgh and beyond, you did an amazing job! Over 800 anti-fascists from across Scotland joined a UAF march to oppose 80 members of the racist Scottish Defence League in Edinburgh on Saturday 17th August. The racist SDL march was supposed to be their big event in Scotland, a two finger insult to the largest and most diverse multi-cultural festival in Scotland. However, on the day the racist SDL had to bus in their pals from the Sunderland Div of the EDL and the North West Infidels to make up the numbers. As the racist SDL trailed past City of Edinburgh Council offices, supporters openly gave Nazi salutes-please see photos on our Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/EdinburghUAF/photos_stream
Green Councillor Maggie Chapman commented ‘Edinburgh is a wonderful, welcoming and diverse city. I’m glad we were there to stand up against the hatred and bigotry of those claiming to speak for Scotland. I think it speaks clearly that their demo was fronted by the EDL Sunderland Division. Clearly the SDL does not have the support in Scotland that it would believe it has.’
Thanks to all who came and helped build the demo on the day, thanks to the Festival visitors and performers who joined us on the march. A truly international crowd joined our march as it passed down to the Scottish Parliament to stand united against the racist SDL and EDL.
Trade unions including EIS, UCU, PCS, UNISON, RMT and Unite the Union encouraged union reps and members to mobilise their union branches, their workmates and community campaigns to attend the march.
Larry Flanagan, Gen Sec of Scotland’s largest teaching union, EIS had encouraged union members to attend the march, ‘EIS resolutely opposes racism in all its forms. As a profession, teachers engage with young minds to develop a shared commitment to values such as fairness and equality, self-respect and respect for others. Racist ideologies such as those pedalled by the SDL and EDL are an assault on those values and need to be challenged through events such as the counter demonstration planned for this Saturday.’
Edinburgh College Students Association and other Student Associations supported the march too. UAF speakers emphasised the need to mobilize large numbers of people from our trade unions, community and faith organisations to oppose racist and fascist groups whenever they try to take to the streets. We showed the racist SDL that we are the many and they the few. We showed that they are not welcome on our streets, our city or our Festival!
You Tube video of the UAF march can be viewed on the following link.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=GyzaNRWwQtE
Detailed coverage of the UAF Edinburgh march can be found on Facebook: Edinburgh Against The Racist SDL.
SDL intend to demonstrate in Dundee The racist SDL have said their next demonstration will be in Dundee in late September, early October. When we get further information we will let you know. Let’s make sure we give them the same unwelcoming reception when they
come to Dundee.
Thanks

August 17, Clean Air Day!!.

Just a reminder that it is just one week before the fascist, racist, shithead SDL will be marching in Edinburgh, bang slap in the middle of the multi-national, multi-cultural Edinburgh Festival. Saturday, 17, August, they intend attempting to bring the stench of their shit onto the streets of Edinburgh. We should make it quite clear that we don't want them on our streets in any city.
This from uafedinburgh:

On Saturday 17th August, in the middle of the Edinburgh Festival and Fringe, the racists from the Scottish Defence League (SDL) will be marching through Edinburgh city centre.

It is up to us all to show to the citizens of Edinburgh and the thousands of tourists, that the majority reject the SDL’s hate fuelled ideas. So let’s make a song and a dance about it!

Saturday 17 August, 12 noon,
Chambers St, Edinburgh city centre

We have only just managed to get agreement from the council and police for the route of our march. So with only just over a week to publicise it we need your help to spread the word.

Glasgow Against Fascism.

Sat 27 July - Pollokshields

United against Racism and Fascism Rally

11am Square Park, corner of Kenmure St and Melville Street at 11am, close to Pollokshields Library, Glasgow.
The SDL have been refused permission to march through Pollokshields on Saturday by the Council's Processions Sub-Committee.
It seems almost certain that the SDL will still come to hold a "static" demo. Whether or not they show, the Celebrate Multiculturalism and Diversity Rally is still on this Saturday at 11am.
Support for the Rally is building with campaigners bringing banners from Dundee, Dumfries and Edinburgh.
It's very important that as many anti-racists as possible come to Pollokshields on Saturday to show that the SDL are not welcome in Pollokshields, Glasgow or Scotland.

A Rallying Call.

A rallying call to all anti-fascists to show your strength in Glasgow:

27 July in Glasgow
This Saturday the racist Scottish Defence League (SDL) are bringing their “summer tour” of protests to Glasgow. The SDL have been refused permission to march though Pollokshields but have stated they are still coming. The SDL claim this will be their “big” one, we need to make sure it is our “big one” in response.

Scotland Against Fascism.

Edinburgh UAF Public meeting:
After the Woolwich murder...
Tuesday 2nd July,
7pm Edinburgh Central Mosque,
Potterrow EH8

The racist Scottish Defence League and the Nazi British National Party are seeking to exploit the horrific murder of Lee Rigby to whip up hatred and division, which has already seen violent attacks against the Muslim community including a series of arson attacks on mosques in England.
The racist SDL have organised demonstrations against mosques in Dundee and  Dumfries, as have the Nazi National Front in Aberdeen. All of these have been against the wishes of the local community.
UAF has worked with local communities to organise counter-demos, to oppose and unite the community against the hate mongering and racism peddled by the SDL. The racist SDL have been repeatedly outnumbered and shown clearly that they are not welcome.
The attacks in England after the horrendous Woolwich murder has been much worse. We invite you to come together to discuss how we can beat the racists as a united community.

Unite Against Fascism, Edinburgh.

From Unite Against Fascism-Edinburgh:

Hello
Below is a statement on the recent murder in Woolwich and details of a despicable protest organised by the Scottish Defence League. Please forward and share this information.
Unite Against Fascism-Edinburgh sends its condolences to the family and friends of the soldier murdered in Woolwich. There can be no justification for such a terrible attack on an individual.
Despicably, racist and fascist organisations such as the Scottish and English Defence Leagues are trying to use this tragedy to whip up racism and direct hatred against all Muslims.
We must not give a quarter to those who would judge an entire religion, race or nationality by the actions of a few. We do not hold Norwegian Christians responsible for the actions of the fascist Anders Breivik, whose 2011 rampage left 77 dead. We do not hold all white British people collectively responsible for David Copeland, the former BNP member who planted bombs across London in 1999. Nor should anyone suggest that Britain’s Muslims are collectively responsible for the attack in Woolwich.
The Scottish Defence League (SDL) have organised a protest to try to stir up trouble and racist violence in the wake of the Woolwich killing, they do not care about the dead soldier, his family or the interests of any community.
We stand together to oppose the SDL protest outside Scottish parliament on Saturday 1 June.

UNITE AGAINST FASCISM - EDINBURGH..

Message from Unite Against Fascism.

The Scottish Defence League (SDL) won their court case today, so for the first time these racists will be allowed to march in Scotland. It is outrageous that a Sheriff sees fit to grant racists a march. Racism is not acceptable on the football terraces so why does she think it is acceptable on our streets?
Today’s Unite Against Fascism press release on the court decision can be seen at: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B2moep8WjsdkNkQxd24zRF9fZWs/edit?pli=1
However while the SDL will be kept on Regent Road, out of sight of almost everyone, we will march right through the middle of town. Unite Against Fascism urges you to come to the Grassmarket for 12 noon, we will then march up to George IV Bridge, down the High St and across The Bridges to Waterloo Place/Regent Road. We will then have a rally with a broad platform of speakers outside St Andrews House. Our march and rally will be well stewarded and safe.
It is really important that everyone comes to this march. We need to set down a marker that allowing racists to march is not acceptable. Please bring your relatives, friends and colleagues.
We need to demonstrate that they are a minority and that the overwhelming majority say no to racists and Nae Nazis in Edinburgh.

THE BRAIN DEAD'S DAMP SQUIB.

Saturday 25 February the fascist Scottish Defence League held their “static” demo in the centre of Glasgow. No marching waving their banners and giving their Nazi salutes, the bunch of pathetic brain dead morons were herded like a little bunch of sheep and contained at the bottom of St Enoch Square. Standing there in the rain making silly childish gestures with no audience, as the public were going about their business as usual along nearby Argyle Street and Buchanan Street. As well as a multicultural demonstration and rally in George Square, there was a considerable anti-fascist presence on the city centre streets. They were there in case some of the scum came along with their school playground bullying tactics of trying to intimidate the various political stalls in the city centre. They never appeared as they presence of any number of Glasgow anti-fascists would have them running to the nearest toilet.

I want a mirror, so I can do my nazi salute.

This foul smelling bunch of scum have no place on the Glasgow's streets, the people of Glasgow have a proud history of working class solidarity and struggle and are well capable of flushing this shit down the sewer. Hopefully this particular bucket of sludge has slopped back down the sewer from which it leaked. However we must be eternally vigilant as this type of scum will always rise at times of economic turmoil, trying to find scapegoats to pin the problem on, we cannot let them distract us from the real root of all our problems, the capitalist system. We have to continually organise to bring an end to this unjust exploitative system of corporate capitalism that dominates our lives.

CLEAN GLASGOW'S STREETS.

Today, Glasgow should come together to clean its streets, today the nazi SDL want to turn our streets into avenues of hate. This off-shoot of the EDL/BNP nazi groupings are not welcome on the streets of our city, a city that has a long tradition of stuggling for the betterment of all its people, a city with a proud history of working class unity. We can't allow this band of deranged dangerous nazi nutters to soil that history.

See you on Saturday.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note:
The Islamophobic and racist Scottish Defence League (SDL) has stated its intention to have a demonstrate in Glasgow on 25th February. It will be the first SDL demonstration of 2012. There organisations around the country have recently been attacking mosques, campaigning street stalls and trade unionists.
Glasgow has a proud history of challenging prejudice and promoting equality. We oppose discrimination of all kinds. We’ve all worked and campaigned together for many years to build a successful, multicultural city where different communities live peacefully side-by-side. We will not accept attempts to create fear and intimidation in our community. The SDL is a violent, racist organisation. They should be opposed wherever they attempt to organise.
We call upon all people, political parties, trade unions, cultural, youth, faith and community organisations to work together to unite our city and defy the SDL’s attempts to divide us and stir up hatred.
The last time the SDL tried to march in Glasgow we saw a 3000 strong demonstration of mass unity on the streets.
Lets see that mass unity drive them off the streets again.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unite Against Fascism (UAF) is a national campaign with the aim of alerting British society to the rising threat of the extreme right, in particular the British National Party (BNP), Britain First and the British Freedom Party gaining an electoral foothold in this country. We aim to unite the broadest possible spectrum of society to counter this threat. UAF is backed by every national trade union, includes members of political parties, anti-racist campaigns, faith organisations, and a variety of individuals in between. We have no affiliations to any political party.
The fight against fascism doesn’t stop once we chase the SDL out of our city.
We urge you to join UAF and help us fight that fight until the fascists are defeated.

THE SCUM IS RISING FROM THE SEWER.

It would appear that the Scottish Defence League (SDL) intend to hold a “static” demonstration somewhere in the centre of Glasgow on Saturday February 25. It is up to the Glasgow citizens to turn up in their hundreds and show their disgust and hatred of this fascist off-shoot of the English Defence League/BNP Nazi grouping. The ordinary people of Glasgow should make it quite clear that there is no room on our streets for this bunch of racist/Nazi/fascist scum. These people have been responsible for intimidation and violence against any group that shows any form of libertarian views. They have attacked stalls in the city centre because they don't like what they say. When ever these brainless clones raise their empty heads above the sewer it is with the intention of intimidation and violence, they get off on doing Nazi salutes in front of a mirror, we should not allow them to create divisions with in our class, we are all being exploited by the same corporate greed machine, even the Nazi scum, but they are too stupid to realise that fact. They should not be let out alone.

At a time when we are facing an all out attack on our living standards from the corporate fascist, these brain dead street fascists seek to find scapegoats. It can be anyone who is different, immigrants, people of colour, those with a different religion, all they do is create divisions in the working class making it easier for the corporate fascists to plunder the public purse. The ordinary people have a common cause against the corporate world that is destroying the very fabric of our society, there is only one division, those who own and control the means of production and distribution, and the ordinary people, those exploited of this system. We can't allow the brain dead fascists of the SDL ilk to divert us from our resolve to win a better life for all.

UNITE AGAINST FASCISM - -SUCCESS.

Unite Against Fascism is proud that the protest on Saturday kept the racists
and Nazis our of the city centre of Edinburgh. As over 400 people,
overwhelmingly from Edinburgh, joined the protest, we demonstrated that the
streets of Edinburgh belong to anti-racists.

The hand written placard stating “We love haggis pakora” best summed up the
spirit that made the march so positive. The diverse groups represented on our
march, from LGBT groups to Muslims, black and white was a living example of our
city maintaining it’s proud tradition of welcoming all communities.

As our march held the city centre the racists in the Scottish Defence League
and their violent friends were humiliated as they were hidden on a quiet
street, invisible to the people of Edinburgh. Instead of the mobilization of
500 they had boasted about bringing, less than a hundred made it to their
assembly area.

And their day got even worse……
Some members of the SDL went down to a bar in Leith to drink after the march.
However someone called the police and the SDL were then held inside before
being bussed out.

EDINBURGH ANTI-FASCISTS.

Dear Friends

You may have heard that the Scottish Defence League want to march in Edinburgh on the 10th September. Below is a Unity statement we would ask you to sign personally or if possible on behalf of your organisation, also please circulate for support. By uniting against the SDL we prevented them
marching or congregating in Edinburgh before, we must do the same again.

Best wishes
Graham
On behalf of UAF Edinburgh
Edinburgh Unity Statement

We the undersigned strongly oppose plans by the Scottish Defence League (SDL) the Scottish arm of the racist English Defence League (EDL) to march in Edinburgh on 10 September 2011.

The EDL was a group admired by the Norwegian far right terrorist Anders Breivik. As well as attending a number of EDL events, meeting EDL leaders etc. Breivik openly expressed his wish to start a racial war and praised the EDL’s strategy and tactics.

The latest rally by the SDL in Irvine on 30 July 2011 saw members hold placards aimed at stirring up hatred against Islam and sporting Blood and Honour (Nazi) tattoos.

Islamophobia - bigotry against Muslims - is as unacceptable as any other form of racism. It divides and weakens our society by making scapegoats of one community, just as Hitler's Nazis did by targeting Jews in the 1930s. Today the SDL threatens Muslims; tomorrow it could be Jews, Hindus, Sikhs,
black people, lesbians & gay men, travellers or Eastern Europeans.

There is no place for racists or fascists in Edinburgh’s multi-racial, multi-cultural and multi-religious community. That is why we stand in solidarity with Edinburgh's Muslim community and against the poisonous bigotry of the SDL.

Initiated by Unite Against Fascism-Edinburgh.
