Creationist And Other Nutters.

        We all know that religions can come up with some weird and wonderful beliefs and statements, but top of that crazy heap are probably the "creationists", who come up with the most bizarre and irrational statements, making it extremely difficult to grasp the true idiocy of their "philosophy". They can take science turn it on its head, make few miraculous miscalculations, add in a guess or two, stir with fantasy and wishful thinking, and proclaim the outcome as irrefutable truth.

       With this in mind I really enjoyed this wee tongue-in-cheek article from Satire Wire:

PETERSBURG, KY (SatireWire.com) – Creationists using a deep-faith telescope said today they have discovered a galaxy formed at the very beginning of time, nearly 6,000 years ago.

     The galaxy, which they named “Michael” after one of the earliest angels, is about 6,000 light years from Earth, but not more, “because light did not exist before that time,” researchers explained.

A telescope (above) is an instrument that aids in the observation of remote objects by collecting electromagnetic radiation. A creationist telescope (below) is the exact same thing, but with the lens cap on.

       The team’s discovery was immediately condemned by the American Astronomical Society, which said “Michael” is actually the Andromeda galaxy, which formed 9 billion years ago. In response, Bertram Hill, lead theophysicist at the subbasement Creation Science Observatory in Kentucky, said, “No it isn’t” and called the debate a tie.

Hill and his colleagues made their observations using a specially designed Deep Faith Creationist Telescope, which is a standard wide-field, Ritchey–Chrétien hyperbolic telescope, but with the lens cap on. From there, calculating the age of Michael, and the Universe itself, was simple, Hill said.

       “We know this galaxy is about 6,000 years old because we know the Universe is 6,000 years old, and we know that because, contrary to what non-believers say, we’ve done the math,” said Hill. “Specifically, we’ve taken the ‘supposed’ age of the Universe – 13 billion years – and multiplied it by .000046, which gives us, as we suspected, the true age of 6,000.”

     But why multiply the age of the Universe by .000046?

“Because that gives us 6,000,” said Hill.

      Using this same multiplier, Hill said creationists plan to further shake up the scientific community by announcing that dinosaurs died out 3,000 years ago, Jesus was born last month, and Pittsburgh was founded on Tuesday.

To Slaughter The Image Of God.

       As a life long atheist, I'm always troubled by those who believe in a God, creator of all things, and then go out wearing a uniform and kill their God's creation. To me it seems a total contradiction of all they believe in. However, I also believe that people who base their lives on a foundation of irrationality, will go on to do irrational things.

      I came across this poem while reading an old copy of Guy Aldred's The Word, Volume iv, No.7 February 1943, on The Sparrow's Nest site, and decided to put it on the blog, aimed at those who somehow, can tie together, their love of God, and the need to kill his creation.

I slaughtered a man, a brother,

    In the wild, wild fight at Mons.

I see yet his eyes of horror,

    I hear yet his cries and groans.

We met on the edge of the trenches,

    Where murder, in crimson, rode.

When swish went my blade to his stomach.

   I'd slaughtered the Image of God.

We'd never in anger quarrelled.

     We never had met before.

But someone had dreamt of conquest,

     and we had to buy it with gore.

Perhaps he'd a wife and children,

    Through whose hopes and dreams he strode,

With the pride of a king in his empire,

     An heroic Image of God.

And I asked myself the question,

     As I saw in his glazing eyes:

“Am I my brothers keeper?”

      Till the sod I trod on cries:

“You made his wife a widow,

       Made desolate her abode,

Your thrust made his children orphans,

      You slaughtered the Image of God.”

The cold, cold stars keep blinking,

      And the winds make moaning sighs.

Men worship me as hero, and laud me to the skies.

     But I keep on thinking dully, till my heart gets like a clod,

Of the thrust I made in the trenches

Religions Speak With Forked Tongue.

       It seems that there is no end to the cruelty, and no depth of depravity to which the vile institution of the Catholic Church will sink. From sexual and physical abuse, to paedophilia, and now the discovery of over 800 bodies of babies found in a septic tank at one of the homes run by the Catholic Church. Are there any more such homes?

        Trusted by that other vile institution, the state, to look after mothers and their children, they used and abused the mothers and starved the neglected the babies, and when the babies died they were disposed of in a septic tank. All this and more form an extremely rich and powerful organisation that preaches love.  The Catholic Church, is like all religions, they speak with forked tongue. They are the enemy of free thought and progress, the creator of divisions between people, institutions of control freaks, a blight on humanity. The quicker we clear our minds and our society of their poison the greater the chances of co-operation between all people.

 

        Vicious cruelty and religion go hand in hand, not just in the Catholic Church, it is how they treat those who differ or deny their "teachings". The only restraint on their barbaric behaviour is the secular society. Over the centuries the secularists have moderated most of religions vile acts but as we see from various reports, it breaks out again and again, creating misery, suffering and bloodshed.

       For decades in Ireland, unmarried women who became pregnant were sent to state-funded "mother and baby homes." The mothers would work to atone for the "sin" of getting pregnant; their children were taken away from them. And outside the now-abandoned site of one of those homes in Galway, the remains of nearly 800 children were found in an old septic tank last week.

       In 1925, Catholic nuns took over the running of a workhouse in Tuam, Galway, turning it into a "mother and baby home." At this grim institution, which locals simply nicknamed "The Home," children were starved and neglected, often to a fatal degree. In fact, one historian estimates that a child died once a fortnight in "The Home."

And those babies weren't treated with dignity after their tragic deaths. Instead , they were tossed in a septic tank and left there to rot -- until locals discovered them again last week.

      The Catholic church has responded with prayers for the dead children's souls. But these abused, lonely orphans deserve more than that. The truth about their lives -- the whole truth -- needs to be told, so that no one can ever forget the pain and suffering they went through.

      We have to remind Ireland's officials that we won't let the past go that easily. Please sign and ask the Irish government to help fund a memorial for these babies who never had a proper funeral.

Workers, Know Your History, Voltairine de Cleyre.

 

         June 20, a day to commemorate the the life of one of anarchism's great writers, speaker, educator, Voltairine de Cleyre, who died 101 years ago on June 20, 1912, but still a voice for today.

        Voltairine de Cleyre (November 17, 1866 – June 20, 1912) was an American anarchist writer and feminist. She was a prolific writer and speaker, opposing the state, marriage, and the domination of religion in sexuality and women's lives. She began her activist career in the freethought movement. De Cleyre was initially drawn to individualist anarchism but evolved through mutualism to an "anarchism without adjectives." She believed that any system was acceptable as long as it did not involve force. However, according to anarchist author Iain McKay, she embraced the ideals of stateless communism.^[1] She was a colleague of Emma Goldman, with whom she maintained a relationship of respectful disagreement on many issues. Many of her essays were in the Collected Works of Voltairine de Cleyre, published posthumously by Mother Earth in 1914.

       Two interesting quotes, though I don't agree with the entire articles, but for sure, religion and superstition have brought nothing but havoc, misery, and violence to the world, from the days of sacrifices, to witch burning, to stoning to death, from blasphemy laws, to the right to brain wash our children, to censorship of expression. These religious rituals are and have been seen as, for the good of man and are considered the right of the religious, the so called devout. Preach love and indulge in violence and murder and that is alright as long as you say, it is god's name.

HAVING A CHAT WITH THE MAN IN THE SKY.

      Some years ago when I worked for SACRO, I used to take a woman to see her brother who was in Carstairs Mental Hospital. He was in there for murdering a stranger, he apparently heard voices that told him to do it. As I drove her there we would chat and she told me how God spoke to her and guided her. I could never separate the two. One was locked up because his voices told him to do unsociable things, the other was outside because her voices told her to sociable things, both were delusional.

       However, our world is filled with these types of people and as we walk past them in the street, chat to them at the bus stop, they seem normal people and probably hold down a job. How many of our politicians, judiciary, and others in power, talk to and get answers from that man in the sky, how many are delusional. This video is of a person who is accepted as a normal person, given broadcast time and claims God spoke to him the other day. How many other "normal" people you meet are like him, speak to an imaginary man and get answers?

ATHEIST VICTORY.

A much welcomed poke in the eye for the authoritarian holy Joes of this world.

A test case bid to outlaw prayers before local council meetings has been won by the National Secular Society and an atheist councillor. They challenged the practice of Bideford town council, Devon, of having religious prayers on meeting agendas. Mr Justice Ouseley, sitting in London, ruled: "The saying of prayers as part of the formal meeting of a council is not lawful under section 111 of the Local Government Act 1972, and there is no statutory power permitting the practice to continue."

BED FELLOWS.

    Over the last few days I have come to the conclusion that when the Pope visits this country nothing happens in the world. There is obviously nothing to report, nothing of importance being said or happening. Every newspaper you pick up has page after page of photos of faces and crowds, headline after headline of the same event. Interviews with the mesmerised members of the "flock" who all make meaningless statements which we have grown to expect from the followers of this mass hysteria.

       All it shows is that the so called "newspapers" have nothing to do with news and all to do with propaganda. We are being drowned in a tsunami of irrational gibberish as if it was the accepted way of life of the people of this country. This is an organisation that is having trouble recruiting and swaths of those it has recruited are paedophiles and child abusers, only a very small number of the people of this country regularly enter the organisation's brain-washing units known as churches. It is a extremely wealth organisation that continually holds out the begging can, has repeatedly hidden abusers and silenced the abused. It preaches a dogma of repression against women and  gays, rants against the right of women to choose abortion and spouts the ridiculous rubbish that condoms spread aids.

     In spite of all its cancerous preachings, our media give it all the propaganda that it wishes, our mouth-pieces of the state, the politicians, give it the stamp of legitimacy. Of course the two corrupt power-mongers are well matched. 

    As long as the church and/or the state hold sway, freedom will be an elusive prize.

SEX AND THE POPE??

     

     We all know that the Catholic church preaches repression, sexual repression being at its foundation. Women are second class citizens as far as the Catholic church is concerned, unclean in fact. If it wasn't for Eve and her weakness we would all be living in the Garden of Eden, women are flawed. That doesn't say much for the creator, after all he only made two humans and got one wrong.

      This organisation is lead by a former member of the Hitler Youth movement who has presided over a cesspool of paedophiles and abuser.

      This organisation, like all religions, heaps suffering and misery on the lives of millions across the globe with its views on so many things from contraception, aids, gays and abortion, plus the influence it wields in the corridors of power, an influence out of all proportion to the number of the faithful practitioners. Poly Toynbee's comment in the Guardian is very apt when it comes to the Catholic Church's view on aids, " Ann Widdecombe's riposte that the Catholic church runs more Aids clinics than any single nation was like suggesting the Spanish Inquisition ran the best rehab clinics for torture victims."

FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION - UNLESS YOUR AN ATHEIST??

        

      The following short article highlights what is a direct attack on the freedom of expression. Are we not to be allowed to criticise religion and show what we consider to be the foolishness of some of its beliefs? To poke fun at something can highlight the foolishness of a particular opinion, if it can't stand up to that ridicule then so be it. How often have the views of the left be held up to ridicule by all the mainstream media, can we have ASBO's pasted on to the TV and certain newspapers? Anarchist have for years been ridiculed by most politicians, can we take them to court and have them sentenced to 6 months?

       Somehow to hold an irrational set of opinions seems to give you the protection of the courts but to hold a set of views that can be backed up by rational debate and historic evidence leaves you open to ridicule. Why should religion be beyond criticism, it is just another set of views held by a group of people, albeit, an irrational set of views. What a strange society we have created, why should any view, religious or otherwise have special privileges and protection from public opinion?

       Can anyone explain to me why Mr. Harry Taylor should not be allowed to carry and distribute his opinion of a set of irrational beliefs, beliefs based on the writings of a couple of members of Middle Eastern nomadic tribes from a long time ago?

      An atheist who left leaflets mocking Jesus Christ, Islam and the Pope in an airport's prayer room has been given an ASBO. Harry Taylor, 59, from Higher Broughton, Salford, left the anti-religious posters in prayer rooms at Liverpool John Lennon Airport in November and December 2008. But he was found guilty by a jury and given a suspended six-month sentence yesterday, as well as an ASBO forbidding him from carrying anti-religious leaflets in public.

      One of the posters Taylor left at the airport depicted a smiling crucified Christ next to an advert for a brand of "no nails" glue. In another, a cartoon depicted two Muslims holding a placard demanding equality with the caption: "Not for women or gays, obviously." A third poster showed Islamic suicide bombers at the gates of paradise being told: "Stop, stop, we've run out of virgins".

       Terry Sanderson, president of the National Secular Society, has been left angry over the conviction. "The six month sentence may have been suspended, but it is still totally out of proportion for what Mr Taylor did. The professional 'offence takers' in religious communities will now feel that they have a strong weapon to use against anyone who is critical or disapproving of them. It is, in effect, a blasphemy law that covers all religions and is much more powerful than the one which was abolished two years ago."

ARE YOU ANGRY??? IF NOT, WHY NOT???

     

       The people are angry. The kids are angry because they have nowhere to go in this system, and the adults are angry because nowhere is their existence. Dead-end jobs mixed with broken down schools in this endless competition to see who can end life with the most possessions. It begins with compulsory education, with the idea that indoctrination is the same as education. Feeling trapped in the endless work load, in the endless department stores, surrounded by nothing but millions of people doing the same thing and consuming the same way, there should be no need of explanation why we're angry. It's about the government detaining citizens on nothing more than a hunch. It's about police officers having the malicious control over the life and death of those around them. It's about the richest people in the world getting rich from the work of others. It's about getting kicked out of the park by cops because you deter tourism and you're homeless. It's about travelling four thousand miles around the world so you can fight in a war only to enrich Western capitalism. It's about getting beat up and torn apart, tortured and vivisected, thrown to the gutter after exploitation. And it's about swarms of people doing nothing but going along with it, buying the products that support the rich who bribe the ruling class. It's about.. Consume. Obey. Exist. Consume. Obey. Exist. Consume. Obey. Exist.

GOD'S CHOICE?

    
         Just another wee thought on the rampant paedophilia in the Catholic church. Why not blame it on God? After all the priesthood is not a job you choose, it's a calling, you're called by God to do his work. If this is the type of priests they get, these are the type of people God is calling on to do his work, or he is just a lousy recruiting officer!! Either way, their system stinks.

A ROTTEN BARREL.

       Why all this surprise at the rampant paedophilia in the Catholic church? It is nothing new, it has been going on with the priests sexually abusing youngster for centuries. It is endemic of that institution. Anybody who doubts this should read their history. It was in 1568 that a Pope something or other, publicly stated, and I paraphrase, any priest found to be sexually abusing children should be removed from his post, receive no more money from the church and be handed over to the authorities. Now if the boss man felt he had to make a public statement on that subject away back then, then it had to be of some concern to the public at large, not just an isolated incident. Yet today we are supposed to believe that this is some sort of blip in the long running flawless character of the clergy. From Nuns, Monks and Priests, they have all been at it while the institution itself saw no real harm in the practice and turned a blind eye. Unlike you and I, they were not shocked at each and every revelation of this behaviour. Then of course there is an explosion of public disgust and they are all running around shaking theirs heads and offering semi-apologies, and talking about a few bad apples. Like all authoritarian institutions, me thinks the whole rotten barrel stinks. What should we expect from a group that wear funny clothes and talk to their imaginary friend who lives somewhere up there and tells them how everybody else should be living their lives. If they want to live delusional lives like that, well and good, but don't give them power over other peoples lives, especially children and don't fund any of their weird activities with public money, and most certainly, keep them out of the education system.

THE FREEDOM TO INDOCTRINATE.

       

       Recently the UK government passed legislation setting out compulsory sex education in all schools. Of course there was the usual belly-rumbling and garbled noises from the Christian fundamentalists claiming that it was an attack on their freedom to indoctrinate the minds of young kids. As usual the government caved in and an amendment was added allowing faith schools to teach sex education in a manner that reflected their religious views. What a cop-out, how do you teach sex education reflecting the view that you shouldn’t be taught it in the first place?

       I can visualise a sex education lesson in a faith school where the teacher holds up a condom between their finger and thumb stating, this is a condom, some people say it can prevent pregnancy, but if you ever use one you will burn in hell for all eternity. That should be very helpful to the kids. Now kids, you know that artist fellow down the road who does a lot of charity work, well he is gay and therfore evil, so don't look at or buy any of his art work.

        Why sex education? Why not allow the faith schools to teach all subjects to reflect their religious views, history, biology, etc. A history lesson could go something like, Henry viii founded the church of England because he was possessed by the devil and filled with evil spirits. The world today is mainly free from witches, because we burnt most of them in years gone by. Biology, the main elements that play a part in the human condition are genetics, environment and the snake from the garden of Eden. There is no end to this crap if you allow the faith schools to teach subjects to reflect their religious views.

        Why doesn’t religion get out of education and confine itself to funny places where men wear long dresses and speak to some imaginary guy in the sky. Where mumbo-jumbo and the adoration of symbolism, crosses, blood of Christ and other weirdo things is seen as OK. Let it be an adult choice if they wish do these things, stop indoctrinating our kids in this divisive, destructive, illusionary world built on the ramblings of some big noises in an ancient, nomadic Middle Eastern tribe.
