We Are Further Down The Road Than You Think.

Though poverty and deprivation have always been with us under capitalism, just a few years ago lots of people lived in the illusion of democracy, they considered that they were doing not too badly. Now the illusion has been shattered and the true vision of capitalism is hitting them between the eyes. In country after country, people are showing their anger and disgust as capitalism rips their lives apart. Not only is capitalism in its bare-knuckle stage, shredding the living standards of the people, but it is shifting the so called "representative democracies" towards fascist regimes, as it forces its ideology universally. In Europe, the Greek state is probably furthest down the line in that change, but all the others are moving in the same direction, it is all a matter of pace.
The latest from Hungary paints a similar depressing picture, this appeal is from a watchdog.net campaign:
Don't Let Hungary Go The Way Of Nazi Germany: Demand EU Action Today!  Blink and you've missed it: Hungary is no longer a democracy.
President János Áder has just signed away the rights of all that was left of Hungary's opposition parties after years of gutting legislative powers, crippling the free press, and eliminating all mention of a "republic" in the country's constitution.
We've seen the steps Áder's taken before. We know these signs. And while the European Union continues to stay silent, the situation for women, ethnic minorities and religious groups in Hungary becomes deadlier by the second.
Please, join us in calling on the member states to act on Article VII of the EU Treaty, which demands they intervene to prevent any state from being robbed of its democratic freedoms. We still have time to stop Áder's men from stripping Hungary's people of more rights and protections -- but we cannot afford to stay silent for long!
PETITION TO EU MEMBER STATES: We cannot afford to sit by while another European country represses state protections, targets minorities, and spreads antisemitism while eliminating free speech. Don't let Hungary go the way of Nazi Germany -- act on Article VII to ensure Hungarians' rights and freedoms!
We are being frog-marched rapidly into a world of corporatism, Mussolini's name for fascism, the further along the road we go the harder it will be to turn back. There is no middle road, capitalism can't be made into some sort of system that delivers fairness and justice. You either accept it, and abandon any hope of a society based on the needs of the people, or you destroy it, and start to build that better world based on those needs of all our people, mutual aid and co-operation, built on a foundation of sustainability.

Fascist Thugs And Police, What's The Difference?

In Greece, doctors call for a halt to the police brutality and repression. However, peace will only return to the streets of Greece when the people break free from that festering marriage of the state and the Troika. Only then will fascism slither down the sewer where it belongs.

This report from the Greek streets:

Doctors dennounce the police violence in Athens (Denouncement of the G.H. Tzanio committee)

19/09/13 Denouncement of the G.H. Tzanio five-member committee of the Union of Hospital Doctors of Athens and Piraeus
As doctors of the Tzanio general hospital, we express our strong concern, as yesterday night 18/09/13, after the protests against the murder of the young Pavlos Fyssas by a member of Golden Dawn, 31 protesters were brought to the surgical department, all with blows on the head. The injured people reported blows by batons, helmets, shields and kicks from ”Delta” and ”Dias” teams (motorcycle police), whereas there were reports of rocks being thrown from the side of the police towards the protesters, aiming for the head, from members of Golden Dawn. One of the people who got injured, after being operated, is hospitalized at the ophthalmological department of the hospital, with a ruptured bulb from a stun canister. He reported being aimed directly on the head and is in danger of suffering a permanent loss of vision in one eye. We urge for a halt of the policy of intensification of the state and parastate repression in order not to mourn any more victims.

The Root Of The Problem Is The State.

Due to the murder of Pavlos Fyssas by Golden dawn supporter, Giorgos Roupakias, Golden Dawn are drawing a lot of fire from the wider public, but as explained in the following article, Golden Dawn are not the real cuprits, they are simply one of the many tools of a fascist state.
This report is from Borderline Reporters:
It is not Golden Dawn who created concentration camps for immigrants. Centre-left and centre-right politicians did that. Concentration camps for immigrants, drug users and homeless people were first talked about in pre-Olympic Greece, in 2004, with the purpose of “improving” the image of the streets of Athens. The Olympics were planned by the centre-left government of Kostas Simitis and took place during the centre-right government of Kostas Karamanlis. The first concentration camp was to be constructed in the old NATO army base, in Aspropyrgos. The plan never materialized due to the reaction by NGOs and left-wing parties. It was discussed again when Christos Markogiannakis took over the Ministry of Public Order, in 2009, but again was not put into practice. The one who finally gave life to the idea that a modern democracy should imprison immigrants without due process or trial in containers fenced off with barbed wire was Minister of Public Order Michalis Chrysochoidis, a “socialist” with centre-left PASOK, currently Minister of Transport in our coalition government. The creation of concentration camps was hailed as a major breakthrough by Andreas Loverdos, Minister of Public Health at the time, another “socialist”. And the practice came into full bloom under the direction of current Minister of Public Order Nikos Dendias, an MP for New Democracy, a self-described “liberal”.

The European March Of Fascism.

In Europe the continual rise of the far right is no more obvious than in Greece. There Golden Dawn. an openly fascist, racist party, who try to terrorise the streets of Greece, is now being considered as a partner in government. When the so called apparatus of law and order openly talk of a partnership with brutal street thugs, it lays bare the true face of the state. The slime of fascism always oozes through the corridors of power. We should see what is happening in Greece as a mirror, a glimpse at tomorrow, unless we, the ordinary people, start to change the course of history.

Members of the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party take party in anti-government march by emergency services employees - Thessaloniki
Last week the leading commentator at one of Greece's largest private TV stations raised the possibility of a political alliance between the ruling conservative New Democracy party and the Neonazis in Golden Dawn.
"Why shouldn't New Democracy co-operate with a serious Golden Dawn?" asked Babis Papadimitriou, the head of the staunchly pro-government Skai TV. The statement was prompted by the latest opinion polls that show the continued rise of Golden Dawn, now at 13-15% and the poor showing of the other partner in the Greek ruling coalition, PASOK, whose fall from electoral Grace has seen support plummet from 42% to 7- 8% within the space of four years.
Papadimitriou's remarks immediately provoked a storm of angry response from Greek Twittersphere and political commentators, many of whom believe that this is the first step in the process of "rehabilitating" Golden Dawn. Such was the reaction that Skai dedicated an entire hour the following day to giving Papadimitriou a chance to clarify his stance. His argument was that Golden Dawn, Greece's third most popular party now represent a large proportion of  the electorate and that a similar alliance between centre right and far right parties had already taken place in Norway.

Silencing Dissent.

Under our present system, lobbying is seen as a way the big boys can buy politicians and shape  government policy. People complain and the government sees this as a way of silencing dissent, so introduces a bill that will silence critical opposition. There are many roads to fascism, and the state knows them all.
This from A World To Win.

How the state plans to shut down dissent

Later this month, the Trades Union Congress is backing a march and rally in Manchester against the ConDems’ carve-up of the NHS. Next year, a repeat campaign could be deemed illegal under legislation due for debate in parliament today.
The TUC is not exactly a scaremongering organisation. So when general secretary Frances O’Grady warns that the Transparency of Lobbying, non-Party Campaigning, and Trade Union Administration Bill is an “attack on free speech worthy of an authoritarian dictatorship” there is just cause for alarm.
She points out that the Bill has been drawn so widely that it will “shut down dissent for the year before an election”, adding: “No organisation that criticises a government policy will be able to overdraw their limited ration of dissent without fearing a visit from the police.”

The State's March To Fascism.

Day and daily the Greek state bears down on the people, creating enforced poverty and deprivation at the behest of the Troika, (ECB, European Central Bank, EC, European Commission, and the IMF, International Mankind Fuckers). As the anger among the people grows, the state works hard at closing down any hint of free space occupied by the people. Squat after squat is attacked, evicted and closed down, the latest being the Orfanotrofio squat in Thessaloniki, which had existed for years as a social centre in the community. Some of the squats recently evicted have been in existence for more than 20 years. In difficult times the state will crush any attempt by the people to organise among themselves.
The Greek state is now openly racist, this is another line of its defence, scapegoats. Blame the immigrants for all the ills that beset the people of Greece. In Greece they are rounded up and detained in concentration camps, more than a hint of Nazi Germany. It is the normal progression of the state whenever it feels threatened, a move to open fascism.
Greece and the Greek people are no different from any other European country. What is happening in Greece is happening here. Though perhaps not as overtly or as brutal, but that is only because the state here doesn't feel the need to go that far, yet. However it is on the agenda whenever they feel that need arises.

The "Undesirables" Are To Blame.

As Greece follows the dictates of the financial Mafia and drives the people deeper into deprivation, the anger grows, so the state follows the usual fascist lines and finds scapegoats in all shades of humanity.
This from watchdog.net
First migrants and recent immigrants were rounded up from Greece's streets and forced into internment camps. Then they threw the drug users in. Next came the sex workers, forcibly HIV tested, publicly humiliated, and imprisoned. Now they're coming for transgender men and women and the list of "undesirables" just keeps longer.
Operation Zeus is a cleansing campaign targeting and imprisoning the most vulnerable members of Greek society, accompanied by spikes in racism, gender hate and homophobia.
There are now at least 5,000 people languishing in these hellholes simply for existing — and this month, while warning trans* men and women to "return to normal" or else, the Greek government announced that camp capacity is about to double.
We call on the EU member states to put the pressure on Greece now to stop this abhorrent cleansing campaign now. We can still save the people persecuted under Operation Zeus — but we can't afford to stay silent for long!
PETITION TO EU MEMBER STATES: We cannot afford to sit by while another European country rounds up "undesirables" and imprisons people in camps simply for existing. Let the Greek government know it must release these people now.

At least 5,000 people are languishing in Greek internment camps, and more "undesirables" are added every day.

Landscapes Of Emergency

I wish the people of Europe would wake up to the seriousness of the situation in Greece, it is a glimpse of our future. We are witnessing a so-called "democratic" country, in Europe, being turned into a militarized zone. A European state turning into a country of brutal repression, to fulfill the ideological dream of the European financial mafia. We delude ourselves if we believe that it can't happen here. As the corporate world and the financial Mafia drive their plans for a pan-European sweatshop economy, resistance will grow, and the militarized police will brutally attempt to keep control of the streets. No matter what the financial "experts" tell you, Italy is bust and is likely to follow Greece, Portugal is on the brink, and those states who are a circling a little further away from the plughole, will get very nervous indeed and will take measures to clamp down hard on any dissent or resistance to their financial master's plan. The European states are all moving in the same direction, the only difference is pace. In the UK they are eating the money in your pocket simply by freezing/cutting wages, cutting social benefits and keeping inflation running at near 3%. Your wages today are worth 10% less now than they were in 2008 when the "crisis" started, Where will they be as the "austerity" continues to beyond 1018? The low wage economy is going to hit you between the eyes, unless we wake up and change the system dramatically.

Fascists in Nice Suits.

Germany 1933, Spain 2013, does history repeat itself with just a change of clothes? Fascism can march in with jackboots or it can slink in wearing an expensive suit, but the result is still the same. Is the British UKIP just a well dressed BNP, with jackboots in their briefcase?
An interesting article from arrezafe:
I understand that this title may sound provocative, because it is clear that there are major differences between the Spain of 2013 and Germany in 1933. But that upon which I would draw attention is the similarity they have, in their objectives, the current People's Party centralizing policy and performance of the NSDAP (German Nazi Party) in 1933, in their struggle to gain absolute power.

European Fascism On The Rise.

As austerity bites ever deeper in European country after country, the establishment will enthusiastically encourage and support, rather than just tolerate, the rise of fascist groups. As anger rises and the normal state parties lose control, the fascist thugs will attempt to intimidate and break any organising towards an alternative socialist society, capitalism must be saved at all costs. What is happening in Greece is not an anomaly, it is a pattern that will appear across Europe unless the left-thinking groups are strong enough and organised enough to crush it at root. The economic situation in Greece is not an accident, it is the result of an ideology driven by the financial Mafia, the Troika, ECB, (European Central Bank), EC, (European Commission), and the IMF, (International Mankind Fuckers). This is not happening in some distant foriegn land with a strange name, Golden Dawn is in Greece, Greece is in Europe, and Golden Dawn is being bankrolled, with plans to expand into other countries.

For more on the history of Golden Dawn and its rise, read Reports From The Edge Of Borderline Democracy's report: GOLDEN DAWN, 1980-2012. THE NEONAZIS’ ROAD TO PARLIAMENT

State Kidnappings.

Two kidnappings in the middle of the night, two citizens pulled from their beds and surreptitiously dragged to a police station away from their homes. Actions of some dictatorial regime in some far off place? No, this is "democratic"  Europe, this is the normal state response to resistance to their policies, this is Greece. It could be Spain, Italy, UK, or any European country, they are all in the same big financial Mafia club. They will meet resistance with any force they feel is necessary, to carry through the corporatisation of the whole continent.

Athens IMC collective
     * Translators’ note: In the early hours of April 10th, 2013, two fighters of the struggle against the gold mines in Halkidiki were kidnapped by the EKAM special police force from their homes in the town of Ierissos (located near the forest of Skouries). Hooded cops literally broke into their homes in the middle of the night, while they were sleeping with their families. Meanwhile, the local police station had been abandoned in fear of retaliation by the residents. Indeed, villagers of Ierissos stormed the police station and burned everything inside, as a first enraged response to the repressive operation. They also set up blockades in the area. Until the 14th of April, the two arrestees were held in the Thessaloniki police headquarters. On that day, prosecutors ordered the pretrial incarceration of both fighters on grave felony charges in connection to an incendiary attack on the Skouries mining site in mid-February 2013.

The March Of The Right.

We have had the rise of fascism in Greece, we have had the removal of an elected government in Italy and had it replaced by a "technocrat" from the Troika. So it goes on, country after country moves further to the right. We in the UK, are facing the same lunge to the right, though our mob are a little more subtle. They slide legislation through under the guise of efficiency and give it innocent sounding names, this latest one is "reforming the legal aid legislation", it should read, "destroying the legal aid legislation".
Since April 1, legal aid has no longer been available for cases involving divorce, child custody, clinical negligence, welfare, employment, immigration, housing, debt, benefit and education. A number of advice centres have closed as a result. An estimated 600,000 people will lose access to advice and legal representation.

TODAY GREECE ----TOMORROW ---???

The powers that be are obviously giving a free hand and support to the fascist gangs of street thugs in an attempt to disrupt any organising by the ordinary people against the savage attack on their living standards by the financial Mafia.
It is no accident or co-incidence that the police work hand in hand with such gangs as Golden Dawn, it is part of their plan of intimidation and repression.

WORKERS KNOW YOUR HISTORY - LOVE OR NOTHING.

I know that I bore the shit out of you by going on about Greece, I can hear you say, "Not Greece again". But as far as I'm concerned, if you want to fly a kite, you have to know which way the wind is blowing, and Greece is telling us that.
The following extract is from an article by Paul Mason, the full article is well worth a read. History can tell us so much and allow us to be ready and get organised to take control of events, rather than let others and/or the events take control of us.

Of all the operas written during Germany's Weimar Republic (1919-33), probably the most haunting is the last. Kurt Weill's The Silver Lake, written with playwright Georg Kaiser, tells the story of two losers - a good-hearted provincial cop and the thief he has shot and wounded - as they make their way through a society ruined by unemployment, corruption and vice.
After spending a week again in Greece - amid riots, hunger and far right violence - I finally understood it.
The opera was meant to be Weill's path back into the mainstream. It was his first break from collaborating with Bertolt Brecht, and was scheduled to open simultaneously in three German cities on 18 February 1933. But on 30 January Adolf Hitler was appointed Germany's chancellor. The first performances of The Silver Lake were disrupted by Nazi activists in the audience and on 4 March 1933 it was banned. The score was torched, together with its set designs, in the infamous book-burning ceremony outside the opera house in Berlin.

COMING TO A CITY NEAR YOU!!

It could be Germany in the mid-1930's, but no, this is Greece 2012. Rampant neo-nazis backed up by the police beating up immigrants and all opposition to the state. Street violence is the last resort of any repressive regime in an attempt to break any opposition, organisation and resistance to the powers that be. It is not confined to Greece, all states have used violence to break the public's resistance and they will all use it again if and when they feel the need. So let's not be complacent and think that it can only happen over there somewhere. Read your history and look at the present, it is coming to a city near you.

THE PAINFUL END TO AN EXPERIMENT!!!

The plundering of the public purse by the financial Mafia and the resultant misery that falls on the ordinary people, forces people in all different directions. Some stay on the belief that things can only get better, others decide to stay and fight for something better, while others cut that bound with friends and family and leave for some foreign land. None of these options are easy, all inflict misery and hardship, some physical, others emotional, some both.
Another excellent article from Teacher Dude's Grill and BBQ.

Is the European experiment grinding to halt?

Earlier this morning I got a call from a friend, saying that she'd found a job but I was at a loss whether to congratulate her or not, as she will not only leave her country but her two young children as well. For the next nine months my friend will be teaching English at a private school in the Gulf States. In doing so she'll be following a path trailed by many other friends and acquaintances over the last few years.
Her children will remain here to be looked after by grandparents for the duration, a story reminiscent of the sacrifices that many Greeks were obliged to make in the 60's and 70's as guest workers who went north to find jobs in the booming economies of northern Europe and especially in German factories then powering the country's export led economic miracle.
As with so many other Greeks six years of recession has forced my friend to consider working abroad as the only alternative to a slow slide into poverty at home so repeating a story that has been told and re-told so often here over the last 100 years. However, this latest generation is both luckier and unluckier than their parents and forebears.

FROM ATHENS TO NEW YORK?

Capitalism lurches from crisis to crisis, capitalism is crisis. During each of these troughs or financial convulsions, the people suffer more than usual, another feature of these inborn faults in the system is the rise of fascism. As the conditions of the people deteriorate fascism raises its ugly head from some dark corner of the sewers of the system. Capitalism's latest convulsions are world wide and so the stink of fascism is spreading across the globe. It will appear in many guises, not just the jackboots on the streets, though they will call on them when they feel the need. They can come disguised as a helping hand of the poor, to gain a foothold in the community. Greece's fascist group "Golden Dawn" works in that fashion and is rampant and openly violent on the streets in that country, and is more or less given a free hand by the authorities to attack and attempt to destroy any organised resistance to the system. Now New York is to be contaminated by the same group as the have set up camp in that city.

Golden Dawn, G.D. (in Greek, Chrysi Avgi), the neo-Nazi, ultra-nationalistic party, which was recently elected to the Greek Parliament under the pretext of concern over unemployment, austerity and the economy, and while engaging in virulent anti-immigrant rhetoric and anti-democratic, nationalistic activities, has now established a chapter in New York City. Several groups and organizations have already publicly expressed their outrage and have called for immediate action.

IF NOT NOW ----- WHEN? IF NOT US ----- WHO?

THERE WILL COME A TIME.

There will come a time when the hordes remember,
who bound our grand-parents to the yoke of oppression,
who sentenced our parents to deprivation,
who bid poverty sink its teeth into our heart,
who teach our children, greed is a noble art.
Who sent our sons through the gates of hell
to a litany of cambist brawls,
crammed coffers with blood-stained gold
while laughing in Ares' halls.
"Who does these terrible things to us?" they will ask,
and when they remember,
they'll bring an energy that is endless
to drive a fist that is fearless.
Then this merciless market-driven world will crumble
under an insurrection of integrity,
the poor will emerge from the dark husk of capitalism
to live in the light of social justice.
There will come a time when the hordes remember.

As the states across Europe stride ever further to the right and fascism shows it vile face from behind the tenuous illusion of democracy, and we live the hardship of financial corporatism's actions of plunder of the public purse, do we meekly accept this financial serfdom or strike out for justice and liberty to control our own lives? There are two questions that need to be answered now, and answered honestly and sincerely.
"Fear and embarrassment should give their position to daring and
decisiveness, anger should give birth to storms of rage and each one
should ask their heart, if not now... when? if not us... who?"

IMMIGRANT SUPPORT.

That pleasant country Greece has changed remarkably over the last couple of years, What the IMF, (International Mankind Fuckers) and the rest of the financial Mafia have done to that country is a crime of tremendous proportions. A country that welcomed people has now become a very dangerous place for immigrants. The rapid economic decline, in certain circumstances, has brought people together in resistance, co-operation and solidarity, however it has also unleashed a wave of fascist anti-immigrant sentiment.

From our friends at Reelnews:
After making Our Present is Your Future, we went to Greece a second time to speak to immigrants and refugees about their life in Greece. Many of those we spoke to were homeless, and often didn’t know where their next meal would come from. Trying to reach safety in Europe, they get trapped in Greece, in the midst of the economic crisis. They are left to fend for themselves. And people are scared. The streets in Greece aren’t safe – for those with the wrong skin colour. A 16 year old Somali was attacked an beaten by a group of men, after they shouted at him: “Hey black! You come to Greece? You will know Greece today!”
In preparation for this film we set up a website, with links to different organisations who work to support immigrants and refugees. Check it out here!
