A CONTINENT ON THE VERGE OF INSURRECTION!!

Across Europe the people are being squeezed, it is all a matter of degree, where you stay will determine that amount of pain you receive. Greece is at the forefront of the attack, with wages cut by 50% and more, in some cases wages delayed for a couple of months, taxes increased, pensions slashed, social services destroyed and unemployment going stratospheric. The Italian government has been replaced by a member of the financial militia, as has been the Greek government. Italy has had mass demonstrations on the streets, Portugal is gearing up for a general strike, Spain likewise, and it already has had several one day stoppages, Ireland has dropped back into recession. Recently Spain's Prime Minister stated that comparing Spain with Greece was ridiculous and that Spain would meet it fiscal targets of austerity and reduce its deficit. However, meeting its fiscal targets, set by the financial Mafia, will mean more suffering poured on to the backs of the Spanish people, will they accept more poverty to save the bond markets?

Romania, Hungary, Belgium are all doing the austerity thing and the people are suffering, the usual lie from the financial Mafia is that it is a “crisis”. There is no “crisis”, everything is working fine, all public funds are being directed to the corporate fascists that rule the world, everything is being privatised to help to re-capitalise their coffers, all is going according to their ideological plan. We are fed this illusion of “crisis” in an attempt to get us to swallow this rapid plunder of all public assets. You may see a worried look on the faces of the ordinary people, but you will only see smiles on the faces of the bankers, bond holders and the corporate world. How long will the public take this purloining of their kids future, how long will they suffer the lies of their “elected representatives”, how long before they public realise the system is loaded against them. It can't be modified to suit their desires, it can't deliver well being for all, it is a ponzi scheme and we the public are the dupes.

The system has to be destroyed and now more than ever it is obvious that it is not a national problem, it is international. It is the people of the whole of Europe that have to rise up and create an alternative, we have to stop saying, “Please Sir, can I have some more.” It is our world or it is their world, we have to decide. Do we want more of the same, always struggling to get a little more from our masters, or do we want a world that sees to the needs of all our people?

This from Anarchist News.
The spectre of the revolt of December 2008, which shook the country deeply after Alexis was murdered by the cops, has haunted minds for months in Greece. Indeed, faced with the unprecedented poverty in the country, with the impossibility of “improving” the economic and social situation, faced with the turning of the screw on the whole population in the name of upholding the system and power, many people have put in their lot for the return of that spectre, for a vast revolt against the State and capitalism without compromise or mediation. After the vote went through on the nth package of austerity measures, which among other things stipulated a 30% reduction of the minimum wage (with all the prior reductions, this adds up to a 50% wage reduction in less than a year), it’s not“just” that spectre that’s taken hold of Athens as it has of several other cities – it’s something more: that night, after the vote, a breeze of insurrection blew in. Dozens of buildings were burned to the ground (banks, institutions, supermarkets, “historical heritage sites,” ministerial buildings,...), hundreds of businesses were pillaged and destroyed, barricades were erected, aside from the heavy confrontations with the forces of order, building occupations, etc. But that gust blew away all attempts to make “calculations”about what was happening too… the sheer vastness of its scope, involving dozens of hundreds of thousands of persons, every one of them charged with their own load of rage, desire, ideas – every one of them ready with their hands. No politician, no manager, no“politics” could lay a finger on it without the risk of getting burned.

MOTOR-MOUTHED LOBBYISTS.

You are probably an ordinary person who struggles to have a decent life and when it comes to elections, if you are still foolish enough to have any faith in the system, you'll cast your vote and that will be that. You will expect your elected representative to fight your corner and to argue to protect your interests in a fair and unbiased manner. If only it was that straight forward. Your elected representative will in all possibility also be employed as an advisor to some corporate body. This will mean of course that he/she will not support any legislation that might adversely affect his corporate paymaster, and he/she will also be wined and dined by well paid motor mouthed lobbyists pushing their particular paymaster's interests. This leaves your interests somewhat away down the line. They call it democracy, I call it corporate fascism.

YOU'RE FREE TO BUY YOUR OWN LAND WITH YOUR OWN MONEY??

This is capitalism, the fiddles and tricks to get their hands on public money knows no bounds. This from Scottish Community Alliance:

There’s more to the Crown Estate in Scotland than just coastal assets. For instance, there’s an ancient royal park in Stirling that has been in public ownership since the 12th century. The Crown Estate Commission has decided to sell this public asset to the Council who are to finance the deal by raiding Stirling’s Common Good Fund to the tune of £567,000. This money, which belongs to the people of Stirling, is being used to purchase land they already own. You couldn’t make it up.

CLOSURE OF REMPLOY FACTORIES.

A late appeal from the STUC.

Thur 22 March - Protest against the closure of Remploy factories.

From 9.00am, Apex International Hotel, 31-35 Grassmarket, Edinburgh.

Letter from STUC:

The STUC has received correspondence from the GMB regarding Liz Sayce’s attendance at the Scottish Union for Supported Employment Conference this coming Thursday, the 22 March. They are requesting support from the trade union movement to mount a demonstration outside the Conference at the Apex International Hotel, 31-35 Grassmarket, Edinburgh from 9.00am onwards. Liz Sayce who is Chief Executive of Radar was the author an independent review into supported employment as a result of which the coalition Government made the recent unacceptable announcement to close Remploy factories placing the livelihoods of hundreds of disabled workers at risk.
This is perhaps one of the most callous acts by the current Government and the STUC and its Disabled Workers’ Committee would urge affiliates to join the demonstration if possible.
The STUC has supported all the trade unions in Remploy throughout their campaign to protect the jobs of vulnerable workers, including a substantial and visible presence at the front of the March at the People First March and Rally on October 1st. .
We realise this is late notice but any assistance that your organisation could provide in publicising this demonstration would be gratefully received.

Yours sincerely

Ian Tasker
Assistant Secretary STUC

HOPEFULLY, IT'LL ONLY LEAD TO DANCING!!

Most of you who read this blog will probably, like me, leave the churches for the delusional who feel that speaking to an imaginary friend in a special building will in some way help the world. Or perhaps they are just selfish and think it will help them to a better world somewhere up their in the sky. Now and again I have come across those fine buildings being put to some good use, like when the holy people become so few that they can no longer afford to keep the fine big building and it becomes a nice restaurant, social centre or club of some sort. There are times when some people want to use it for some other purpose than taking to the man in sky, and do so while the holy people are still there. This video reminds me of an old Scottish Presbyterian saying when introduced to anything new, "Oh, it'll only lead to dancing."

KILLED FOR BEING UNION MEMBERS.

An urgent appeal from Labour Start, the struggle is global.

Most trade unionists have had experience with difficult employers at some time in their lives. But have you ever had an employer who did this?
Sacked 51 people from their jobs - just because they joined your union
Then ignored court rulings and ILO decisions that backed the union case
Assassinated the union's lawyer
Made repeated death threats against the union president -- and killed eight other union members
Forced fifteen members of the union into exile
And finally in December, provoked workers to launch a hunger strike as a last, desperate act to get justice
I hope not. But that's exactly what has happened to the municipal employees in the city of Cali, in Colombia.

Support justice for the workers of Cali - send a message now.
Please have a look at the photo above. That shows two of the union's leaders -- one who has repeatedly been threatened with death -- meeting with one of the hunger strikers. Those workers have reached out through their global union federation, Public Services International (PSI), to ask all of us to take just a minute and send off messages to the Colombian government saying enough is enough - it's time for justice for the municipal workers of Cali.
Please do this today -- and please tell everyone you know, especially public sector workers, that our brothers and sisters in Cali need our help.

And while we have your attention ...
Locked out meat workers in New Zealand are also appealing for your help. Please take a moment to learn more and to send off your message.
LabourStart's campaign in defense of Abdolreza Ghanbari, the Iranian teacher trade unionist who has been sentenced to death, is the largest we have ever run, with more than 14,000 people having sent off messages so far. But we can do better than that. This is indeed a matter of life or death, and if you've not yet done so, please send off your message today.
Finally, the fastest way to learn about a new LabourStart campaign or breaking news stories is to follow us on Twitter -- with your help, we'll have more than 6,000 Twitter followers today.
Thank you!

IRAN - STOP THE WAR.

1) DAY OF PROTEST, SAT 24TH MARCH:
DON'T IRAQ IRAN, TROOPS OUT OF AFGHANISTAN

The unravelling of the war in Afghanistan has been apparent in recent weeks. The shooting of 16 Afghans, mostly women and children, by a US soldier, surely marked a turning point in the war as Afghans reacted with anger to the latest in a long line of outrages by demanding the soldier was put on trial in their country. The Americans responded by flying him to Kansas. This week both their ally President Karzai and their enemy the Taliban have underlined just how much the western powers are losing the war. Karzai demanded that ISAF troops should be confined to barracks while the Taliban broke off talks.
You would hardly know this from the summit in Washington last week which saw Cameron and Obama feting each other in the White House. Instead they said the war was on course and would continue till 2014 (although they are privately bringing the dates forward as they know it is unlikely to hold for that long).
Even worse they made clear their determination to attack Iran. The recent visit by Israeli prime minister Netanyahu to the US piled on the pressure to back an attack. This week the Israeli deputy prime minister is visiting London to drum up support for an attack on Iran and is clearly confident of winning the backing of the US and British governments.
We have held successful protests and meetings over both issues in recent weeks, particularly attracting young people. This Saturday we have a national day of protest based around 'Don't Iraq Iran' - see
http://bit.ly/x67PUk. On the 9
th anniversary of the attack on Iraq, and the first anniversary of the bombing of Libya, the interest in anti war activity is being heightened. Protests can bring in these issues, plus the threats to Syria. This is the chance to get out on the streets and build a campaign against the next main threat.

See
http://bit.ly/x67PUk for more details on the day of protest.
2) ONLINE PETITION
Our letter to the Guardian against an attack on Iran, which was signed by a number of celebrities, will go live in the next few days as an online petition. We want as many signatories on it as possible. Check the website and add your name.

3) NEW MATERIALS

We have a range of new materials available now or soon, to spread the message about the don't attack Iran campaign: '10 reasons' leaflets, 'don't Iraq Iran' badges, special tote bags, 'Who's threatening who' maps of the region and posters.

Contact 0207 561 9311 or

BANKERS CRIME -- PEOPLE PAY.

A simple explanation on why we have "austerity" in Europe. The bankers hymn that we the people have all been living beyond our means and now we have to pay, is probably the biggest lie every put across an entire continent and yet lots of people swallow the lie. Probably partly by confusion and partly by ignorance of the facts. That is why any discussion that highlights that lie is worth giving voice to as widely as possible.

SOMEONE'S GOLDEN DAWN FADES!!

This from Occupied London, it is no more than they deserve.

Patras: anarchists storm and trash the newly-opened offices of neo-nazi group ‘Golden Dawn’ in broad daylight
The neo-nazi group ‘golden dawn’ (chrysi augi) is projected to enter the parliament for the first time in the upcoming elections. Ahead of these elections, the group has been trying to open offices across Greece and on Monday (March 12) they opened their office in the centre of the port city of Patras. In response, two days later anarchists marched to the building in broad daylight (should this be in golden dawn?) and trashed them, burning the neo-nazi propaganda inside, smashing up water pipes, doors and walls and throwing furniture out.

RIDDEN TO DEATH -- FOR CASH!!

This week has seen 5 horses killed at one race course, Cheltenham. Of course the media portray the event as a fun affair, when in actual fact it is a cold blooded money making machine. Millions of pounds of cash passes through hands in bets, prize money, sponsorship and of course breeding and training fees for the winning stables. The horses are not treated as animals but as cash producers and if they don't produce the cash they are disposed of rapidly. The poor beasts are worked literally to death and the number that die in training is always swept under the carpet and referred to as an unfortunate accident. It isn't, it is the direct result of pushing the beast to their limit, in the hope of that cash flow coming to that particular stable. Deaths of race horses is far from the odd unfortunate accident it is part and parcel of a very cruel and brutal cash making industry. The number that die or are "put-down" during a race is a crime, these deaths are for no other reason other than to make some very rich people richer, the horse is just a disposable tool.
In a society where money governs everything you do, and controls your quality of life, everything is expendable, life and death are just events that alter the accountants balance sheet. In this society horse racing is not a sport, it is a lucrative industry controlled by big money, to make bigger money and so what if some horses die cruelly and painfully, to the bosses, it is no more than an inconvenience, there is always another poor beast ready to be thrown onto the conveyor belt.
This is just March and the number of race horses killed on the race course this year alone is horrifying. The list below is from HorseDeath Watch.

A WOMAN'S RIGHT TO OBEY!!!

As the slaughter of the innocent goes on in Afghanistan we keep getting the same tired old lies, we are winning!! Winning what, in this war what does winning mean? Most politicians support the fiasco in that suffering land, but when you ask them why we are there you'll get as many different answers as politicians you ask. It is to make our streets safer, lie number 1. It is to bring democracy to Afghanistan, lie number 2. It is to get rid of the Taliban, lie number 3. It is to get rid of the opium trade, lie number 4, and so it goes on. However the biggest lie of all is probably that we are protecting and improving the rights of women. This surely ranks as the worst piece of double-speak, the cruellest lie of all, the finest political act of smoke and mirrors for centuries. The Western planted puppet President, Karzai, has more or less legalised rape in the hope of doing a deal with the Taliban when his NATO minders pull out. So much for women's rights.

EIGHTEEN HUNGRY CHILDREN - WHY!

Every hour of every day 300 children die due to malnutrition, at the very start of their lives they are left so weakened by relentless hunger that they can't fight off illnesses like diarrhoea or pneumonia. Surviving malnutrition doesn't bring a full and healthy life, those children who survive, malnutrition suffer devastating and irreversible damage, stunted growth and bodies and brains that are permanently damaged.
The problem isn't that the world is short of food, the food is there, but somewhere along the line some people have to make a profit. So the food won't move to the needy until the money changes hands. While a child is dying of malnutrition, we in the rich developed world run around shaking charity cans under the noses of all and sundry hoping that they will drop a few coins in the box and perhaps then we can start the food moving.
What a barbaric inhuman system, shrink the picture, you know of a child down the road that is dying from malnutrition, what do you do? Run around trying to raise some money to buy some food from the supermarket? Any system that has an abundance of food and yet stands by waiting for the money to change hands before supplying children dying from malnutrition, is not fit for purpose.
Capitalism is only there to serve the shareholders, the corporate world, everything is a commodity, even the life or death of a child. If companies can make a profit then the child will live, if not, sorry, you don't have enough money. Why do we allow ourselves to be dominated by these corporate fascist? We the ordinary people make everything, we transport and distribute everything, all we have to do is take control of what we make, where we transport it, and to whom we distribute the produce of our labours. We don't need them, they on the other hand do need us. Let's dump this brutal, unjust, inhumane, greed driven system in the dustbin of history. After all it is only a man made system it is not something written in tablets of stone or some immutable force of nature, it is a man made economic system of greed.

The following is a poem that I penned some 20 years ago, in spite of all the pontification by our expensively suited, hypocritical politicians, the situation is no better today than it was then, probably worse. As long as we keep this system of capitalism dominating our lives the situation will never improve.

EIGHTEEN HUNGRY CHILDREN.
Eighteen hungry children die
every minute of every day
eighteen of tomorrow’s people
cruelly thrown away.
When pandering to a fashion
gratifying our greed,
think, theirs is no desire
but a basic need.
Envisage a familiar face
a child that calls your name,
try to be the parent
try to place the blame.
Eighteen hungry children die
every minute of every day,
eighteen little faces
that never learnt to play.
Walk past your local school
listen to the shrill,
stand and count to sixty
imagine hunger start to kill.
Fingers must be pointed
at decisions made on high,
questions must be asked
loudly asked by you and I.
Eighteen hungry children die
every minute of every day,
eighteen precious lives
the claws of hunger slay.
WHY?

CORPORATE ATTACK ON THE NHS.

As we all know, or should know, the millionaires at the Westminster House of Hypocrisy and Corruption are hell bent on turning the NHS into a cash cow for their friends in the corporate world. Turning it from a service at time of need, into a commercial concern where those with money will be able to buy the best treatment available and get it right away, where as the rest of us will have to take our place in the queue and take what is left. Health should never be considered as a money making enterprise, it must always be a service at time of need. However the corporate fascists see our Health Service as one massive market that they can milk, making billions from the sick and vulnerable. It is your child that way be dependent on it in some time in the future, what will you do if it isn't there?
This appeal from AVAAZ.

We have just days to save the NHS. Opposition from doctors, nurses and patients has rocked the government. Our massive outcry now can persuade undecided members of the House of Lords to say no to the bill on Monday and get the government to publish its report on the risks of these changes. Sign here to save the NHS:

Sign the petition
The battle to save the NHS is now entering its final hours. David Cameron and Andrew Lansley seem determined to drag Britain’s most famous institution to its grave, but if we now stand together we can get the House of Lords to stop this bill in its tracks.
Public outrage is gripping the country as the Prime Minister persists with a bill that would dismantle the NHS and open the field to private companies. The government refuses to publish its internal report on the risks of the reforms, one reason among many why thousands of health professionals and many politicians oppose the changes. If we now build a massive outcry we can sway our last line of defence -- the House of Lords -- to save the NHS.
Let’s call on the undecided members in the House of Lords to keep the knives off our NHS and ensure we can all read the official risk report -- sign here and circulate. Our voices will ramp up the pressure as we deliver our petition when we reach key milestones between now and Monday:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/last_chance_to_save_the_nhs/?vl

The coalition promised no top-down reorganisation of the National Health Service. Yet it's brought in a bill that threatens to turn large chunks of the NHS over on a plate to private health care companies and cost-cutting consultants, threatening a tidal wave of privatisation that will leave our health system expensive and fragmented, with many of us getting only low-quality care. Citizens are outraged -- according to the latest polls, over half of us want the new bill to be scrapped.
Public opposition has already delayed the bill and forced several amendments, but the government is refusing to halt the reforms, wrongly insisting that opponents are just a minority group of disgruntled health care professionals and political opponents. The fight for the NHS now depends on the 200 members of the House of Lords who don't belong to a political party. They aren't used to public scrutiny, so if we target them now, we can win and ensure that any reforms of our precious health service are done in concert with health professionals and patients.
We only have until Monday to tip the balance. The recommendation to delay the debate until after the risk register has been released will throw the NHS a lifeline and allow us all to see the likely impact of this bill. Sign the petition, and send widely.

http://www.avaaz.org/en/last_chance_to_save_the_nhs/?vl

Britain is proud of the NHS, which has saved countless lives and won admirers across the world. Let’s act now and ensure our health care system stays free for all.

With hope,

Sam, Antonia, Alex, Alice, Jamie, Ricken and the rest of the Avaaz team

WORLD WIDE CLASS WAR.

I keep going on about how the struggle of the ordinary people in this world is not a national struggle, it is international. Our struggle is global, national governments are in the thrall of the financial barons of the corporate world. To create a better world for all our people we need to realise this factor and join hands and rebel in unison. It is by changing the system and not the party, leader, president, that will bring about justice for all. As far as national governments go, we have a kaleidoscope of political variations but all on the same theme, namely capitalism, and yet there is not a country on the face of this earth that has not got people on the streets protesting injustice. The system has failed and failed miserably, it can't be modify, it is an elitist system that keeps a small army of parasites in unbelievable luxury and the vast majority in poverty, or struggling to stay above the poverty level.
I first saw this from Citypulse, on Teacher Dude's Grill and BBQ, it is dedicated to people who express themselves for a cause, however to me it also highlights the fact that the world is in turmoil, not because people want struggle and confrontation, but because the system isn't working for them and forces them to confront the cause of their unjust treatment. Capitalism is spouted as the only game in town, but there is a better way, there is an alternative, we can build a society based on the needs of all our people, one based on co-operation, mutual aid and sustainability, one free from the greed of the profit motive.

WINTER IN ATHENS.

Hidden between cardboard boxes, wrapped in dirty blankets, numb and nearly frozen from the cold in recent days are the homeless people, who sleep in the streets of Athens. Low temperatures and cold winds have made many of them turn to the municipality that has provided sports halls and other premises where they can spend the nights. However, others preferred to remain in the street. Fear that someone else will take their place the next day if they leave it even for a night makes them stay there despite the cold.

NO GODS NO MASTERS.

It seems that the leopard hasn't changed its spots, the Catholic Church, as usual, is set on leaning hard on the victims of physical and sexual abuse by priests, in an attempt to protect the perpetrators of the abuse. This world wide organisation is riddled with paedophile abusers and has been for centuries. It is difficult to believe that for centuries priests have been abusing children and moving up through the ranks unpunished and yet those at the top claim innocence and ignorance of this vile corruption among their ranks. Over all those years of child abuse it is impossible to accept that some of the abusing paedophile priests didn't reach the highest of ranks, but still, pleading ignorance or blaming the victim is their stance. Their continual contesting of cases of abuse and forcing victims to take their humiliating treatment to the public venue of a court, rather than put their hands up and help these damaged individuals, is an utter travesty of what they preach. The sooner individuals turn away from these authoritarian myth based enslavement organisations the happier they'll be and the sooner we will see and end to the abuse they sow.

Catholic Church Files Case against Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests

Attorneys representing the Roman Catholic Church and priests who have been charged in two Missouri sex abuse cases have filed a case in an effort to legally compel the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) to disclose its records from the past twenty-three years. The documents requested include correspondences with victims, witnesses, police officers, and lawyers. SNAP, a network of survivors of religious sexual abuse and their supporters, is neither a plaintiff nor a defendant in the case.

1,000 NEW ZEALAND LOCKOUT.

It is not just in Europe that the corporate bully boys are flexing their muscles, it is world wide. In every country the corporate gaints are ripping up contracts, in doing so reducing wages and taking away conditions that have been fought for with blood, sweat and tears. Workers across the world have to show solidarity with each other, it is one big battle, a fight against world wide corporate fascism.
This from IUF:

Talley’s/AFFCO has locked out 1,000 meat workers in an attempt to force them and their union, the New Zealand Meat Workers’ Union, to accept changes to their collective agreement - changes which will make it easy for the company to impose individual contracts on workers and thereby to set wages unilaterally. Changes which will eventually destroy the Core Collective Agreement now applicable to AFFCO’s 8 plants in New Zealand’s Northern Island. More...

A HIGH SCORE AT THE OFFICE TODAY??

The march of the robotic war continues at a rapid pace, mostly unobserved in the West but we are the harbingers of the peopleless army. Most people tend to see CCTV cameras as a benign watch on criminals, but they are all part and parcel of the surveillance and control by a central authority and that authority spreads across the globe. the latest stage is the surveillance drones and their big brother, the killer drones.
America has used drones to strike at and kill citizens in other countries, and since Obama came to power the use of drones as robotic assassins has grown enormously.  In Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, the Obama administration is using drones to invade other nations sovereign territory and kill people by remote control in those countries, while no state of war exist with the U.S.. Some of those killed have been American citizens. No charges, no jury, no judge. Just a CIA hit list.
Once one state finds an efficient killing method others soon follow, now 50 countries have drones. Of course drones are not just being used to invade others soveriegn territory but are used as means of surveillance in their own home land. They have been used in the UK for this purpose and in the US, no doubt other countries are fllowing suit. The implications are horrendous, as country after country builds up its peopleless army of spies and assassins. Soon war will become a 9 to 5 office job, you'll have kids sitting in front of what looks like a game consul in some government office, getting excited as they see there hits score go higher and higher. No doubt there will be bonuses for the highest scorers. They will probably boast to their friends and family about their high score, oblivious that each score is the death of a family or a village, or even worse as the drones get larger and carry a heavier payload of destruction and death.
I wrote on this some time back and make no apologies for doing so again, it is a horror world we should not allow ourselves to sleepwalk into, it is a world that only suits the corporate state.
