The Green.

Glasgow People's Palace and Winter Gardens before Council's re-imagining.

People's Palace Winter Gardens after Council re-imagining plans emerged.

There has been a treasure on Glasgow Green for 124 years, it's called "the Peoples Palace and Winter Gardens. At the time of opening, one, Lord Rosebery, dedicated it to the people of Glasgow, for ever and ever. 124 years on and the Glasgow City Council have other ideas. Having let it fall into a state of disrepair, they pillaged its contents and shredded the wonderful winter garden's plants, leaving it a shell deteriorating before our eyes. They floated ideas such as re-imagining its use, which usually means turning it into a venue from which corporate bodies can make lots of money, and we the public would have to pay to use it for the purpose it was never intended.
However, the good people of Glasgow see this as pillage and plunder of their assets, and are carrying on a campaign to have it restored and returned to its former use, a place displaying the history of the people of Glasgow and the Winter Gardens a place of pleasure for all, free of charge, as it was intended and dedicated to all those 124 years ago. Let's get behind this campaign and bring the Glasgow Council to their senses, making them realise, they are there to protect and mange our public assets, not to dispose of them, and we the public pay their wages and expenses, and very generously at that.
On Saturday, 22nd. January, the Friends of People's Palace, Winter Gardens and Glasgow Green, held a protest, one of many, outside the Winter Gardens. We need to swell the numbers taking part in this worthwhile campaign. It is a fight for that which is ours, it's our People's Palace and Winter Gardens, we want it back to what it was, no re-imagining.

Angry.

Today, 31st. July, some Glasgow citizens marched from St Mungo Museum to Glasgow Green in protest at the cuts and closures taking place in the city, libraries, community centres, sports centres and more, plus the selling off of other of the citizen's public assets. It was a colourful march and well attended, but not well enough attended. Glasgow citizens it's time you got angry and raised you voices in on thunderous roar, "We will not tolerate this slashing of our services and assets".
What is happening is the plundering of public assets, which will end up in private hands, and the diminishing of the quality of life for those who live in this city and to whom these assets belong, a slashing of the quality of life for the next generation. What is the council for if it is not to service and maintain the services and facilities for the people who live in the city. If they can't do that then then the city council is superfluous to requirements.
It is time to stop being polite and time to take to the streets with your righteous anger and force the take back of all our assets into the control of the all of the people of our city. Glasgow, get angry, you have every right to be ferociously angry, and show it on the streets of our city and in our communities. It is your health and welfare and that of your children that are going to suffer from this plundering of the public purse.

Asset Stripper.

Sir Philip Green's £100 million wee boat.

He's back in the news, and for all the usual reasons, spiv, tax evader, assets stripper, Philip Green, luxury yacht owner. Remember how he sucked BHS dry by huge share bonuses, paid no tax because the company was registered in his wife's name and she lives in Monaco, then left it to die with a massive multi-million pound hole in its pension fund. Well it looks like lightening does strike twice in the same place, Arcadia, another of his wives little assets that they sucked dry and now it dies, again leaving a £350 million hole in its pension fund.
This arrogant privileged pampered duo are said to be worth £930 million, their nice little nest-egg was somewhat enhanced in 2005 when Sir Philip Green paid his wife a nice little dividend payment of £1.2 billion from Arcadia. Of course no tax paid as she lives in Monaco. He doesn't invest, he asset strips, piling the ill-gotten wealth into his dear wife's account, tax free of course.

A couple of views of the interior of Philip's wee boat.

So while Sir Philip mucks about in his wee boat in Monaco, no doubt preparing for a wee holiday in the Caribbean, after the stress of milking Arcadia dry, because of his actions, thousands of ordinary people are preparing to face the dole.
We tolerate this, it is not an isolated case of wealth plundering by those arrogant wealthy parasites, it is part and parcel of this system of exploitation and greed. The world is awash with untold wealth slushing around in a labyrinth of tax havens, while millions go hungry, exist homeless and struggle to feed their kids. The question is why do we tolerate this? Every pound in their little secret boxes, was produced by you and I, we create the wealth, they plunder and stash it away for their own greed driven personal gratification. We must be insane to tolerate this continuing two fingers at us, the wealth creators, by a clique of arrogant parasites, who are laughing all the way to Monaco, the Caribbean etc..

Exarcheia Calling

What is happening in Greece should be of interest to all of us, who wish to bring about justice, freedom, co-operation and sustainability, in other words, who wish to bring about the end of capitalism. Greece is at the forefront of the " refugee crisis" but is also at the forefront of the financial Mafia's attempt to recapitalise it institutions at the expense of the people. How the people react to this criminal act of looting, is something we can learn from.
Exarcheia Calling
This statement is based on our personal and shared collective experience of the current situation of anarchist struggle in Greece, Athens and Exarkhia. We did not neither had the time to consult and agree with the older Greek crowd of anarchists and radicals, and is only our sentiment as mostly international people with little experience and limited knowledge of the dynamics within the militant crowds.
We are an ad hoc collective of international squatters in Exarkhia who just opened a new occupation in a lofty house at 119 Zoodorou Pigis, three weeks ago, pitted together by the necessity of developing a place where to live and organize, with the desire to spread anarchy against a ruthless State at the very entrance of Fortress Europe, and its armies of civil and uniformed minions. This squat 'til now has been an awesome adventure filled with creative energies and has helped several anarcho street travellers as well as refugees to have a stay, be a stake up against society and in the process build ties with new people, something that had become nearly impossible these days in Athens due to not just State repression but also the internal politics of the well-known squats and the demotivation/demobilization of many anarchists in Exarkhia.

A World In Protest.

Where are all those capitalist democracies? Across the world country after country is making it clear that the present political system, is no longer acceptable. More than a month of street protests in Turkey, the same in Brazil, daily protests in Greece, mass protests in Italy, Portugal, Spain and more than a year of on going protests in Egypt. We could go on and on across the globe, but staying in Europe, among other countries, we have seen massive protest in Bulgaria, where the people now realise that they are being ripped up, and sold off to the corporate world.
The Bulgarian people are pissed off at their countries assets being sold to the corporate world. As well as mass protest calling for the power companies to be nationalised, due to stratospheric price increases. There is also a demand to nationalise a recent discovered gold mine, where there are said to be 18,000 tonnes of gold ore, with an estimated value of $793 billion (US). At the moment the gold mine is owned by a Canadian company Dundee Precious Metals, and it is stated that from the value of all the gold mined there, less than 1% will remain in Bulgaria. Bulgaria, a poor country with $793 billions worth of gold in the kitty??? This is corporate asset stripping on a large scale.
Asking our corporate master's puppets, your national government, to please give us a little more of what is ours in the first place, is guaranteed to produce more of the same, austerity, perhaps administered with a different smile. The state and the corporate world are one in the same thing, and you and I are not in their club. We are at best paid pawns, at worst, worthless dispensable entities. If you want that to change, then it is the system that has to change, not the smiling face at the podium.

Asset Stripping On a Grand Scale.

The fascist Troika, that governs Europe has dealt another blow to the income of the Greek people. Opap, the Greek government owned gambling giant, which last year made €505 million for the Greek public purse, I presume, welcome money to a state groveling for money, has been sold, on the instructions of that fascist Troika. A 33% slice of it was sold for something over €622 million, the exact figure is still “secret”, a price not much more than one year's profits. The fascist Troika has instructed the Greek government to sell of €9.5 billion of Greek assets, the Greek people's assets, by 2016. Anything that could make money for the Greek people has to be sold to the corporate world so that they can make that money. A country being punished for its debt, and the remedy is to cut of its sources of income. It is obvious that the fascist Troika's grand plan has nothing to do with debt reduction and more to do with asset stripping. Country after country is being forced to sell of the people's assets and hand the money to the banksters. All this brings the people's standard of living crashing down. What do we the people get in return for all this “austerity”, plundering? Why we get lots of pie-in-the-sky, after ten or more years of wage cuts/freeze. There will be a promised land waiting for you, if you will only accept a decade or two of groveling in the gutter you'll be just fine. Of course the parasites will not be joining you there in the gutter, no they will be laughing at you will the stuff their faces at some fancy banquet. Ah well, that's capitalism for you.

MISERY NOW FOR PIE IN THE SKY, IN THE BYE AND BYE.

Unrest and anger spreads and intensifies across Greece as more "austerity cuts" are on the cards. More cuts to people's pensions, workers not having been paid for six months, and so it goes on, and all this is for the benefit of the Greek people, or so the people are being told. They are being asked to meekly accept abject poverty, deprivation and misery, all for their own good!!! They are being told that their country will have to sell off all the assets owned by the people, so that their government can pay the financial Mafia billions of Euros, and things will all come right in the bye and bye. Spain, Italy, Portugal and Ireland are not far behind, and yet there are those that still believe the problem will be contained, that the system will be fixed, and we will all get back to growth and eternal prosperity. What is being plundered from the public purse will never come back. If you believe that all those billions of Euros poured into the coffers of the financial Mafia will somehow find their way back to the public purse and create a decent society for all the people, then you are more stupid than naive.
The way that the system works now is that it is a downward spiral for the people, and a financial vacuum cleaner for the financial Mafia. Why should they hand it all back to make your life and my life better? If they can have you scrambling about in the gutter, fighting each other for the few jobs around and willing to accept whatever wage they decide to pay you, then they are doing fine. Perhaps you see corporate capitalism as a compassionate beast that at the moment has some problems, but a soon as it sorts them out it will start to reward you for your patience and suffering, Dream on my friend.

This from Occupied London:

Workers at the Skaramangas shipyard in Athens storm the ministry of defense; farmers in Heraclion, Crete raid the Heraclion airport, as tension ahead of the voting of new austerity cuts intensifies.

THE PLUNDER OF A PEOPLE..

The general public across Europe are not being made fully aware of what is really happening in Greece, the powers that be don't want you to know, as it is a brutal and vicious crime, and the public anger would rightly explode if the full extent of this crime was known. This is a European country that is being turned into a third world country and it is happening with such rapidity that it amounts to a crime against humanity. Hospitals are running out of their very basic needs, schools are devoid of materials for the education of the kids, homeless numbers have gone stratospheric, suicides are rocketing and mental health problems are soaring beyond belief. That is the stage they are at at this moment in time, yet the Troika, (European Union, European Central bank and the IMF) are determined to push further cuts to social spending, increase unemployment, decimate pensions and plunder Greece's public assets. It is rapid asset stripping of a nation for the benefit of the financial Mafia. We would be naive to think that it can't happen to us, it can and in all probability it will. This can't be allowed to continue, what has already been inflicted on the ordinary Greek people is plain and simple, a brutal robbery by a very rich small army of parasites to gratify their unending greed. It is of course class war, the very rich sending in their mercenaries to plunder the assets of the ordinary people. We have to spread the word, let everybody know exactly what is happening to the ordinary people of Greece, every day sees more misery inflicted on the old, the young and the sick, there is no relief in sight for them, unless we change the system.

February 13, 2012 -- Coalition of Resistance -- The people of Greece face an unprecedented economic and political crisis. They are being driven to poverty and mass unemployment by the demands of the so-called Troika – the European Union, the European Central Bank (ECB) and the International Monetary Fund, which has imposed Lucas Papademos, former vice-president of the ECB, as prime minister.
Hospitals in Greece are running out of basic medicines, nearly half of all young people are unemployed, workers in some sectors have not been paid for months, and many are forced to resort to soup kitchens or scavenge from rubbish dumps.
Now the Troika demands a cut of 23% to the minimum wage, the sacking of tens of thousands of public sector workers and the decimation of pensions which have already lost nearly 50% of their value. International capital is asset stripping an entire country and ripping apart its social fabric.
Greece is at the cutting edge of the austerity measures that are being introduced across Europe. All the evidence shows that while these measures may protect the interests of the rich, they just make matters worse for the majority of the population. What happens in Greece today we will see in Portugal tomorrow and in Ireland the day after. In Britain, the Coalition government is pursuing similar measures which will see workers earnings cut, working longer for a smaller pension, and the dismantling of the NHS along with other public services.
Mikis Theodorakis, famous Greek composer of Zorba’s Dance, and Manolis Glezos, veteran resistance fighter against the Nazi occupation, have issued a statement calling for a European Front to defend the people of Greece and all those facing austerity.
The Coalition of Resistance and the People’s Charter have decided to support this call and agreed to work with trades unions, campaigns and parties across Europe to establish a European Solidarity Campaign to defend the people of Greece. The campaign aims to organise solidarity and raise practical support for the people of Greece; they cannot be made to pay for a crisis for which they are not responsible.
We are writing to you to ask you to endorse this campaign and to publicise it to others.
Below is a list of initial signatories. We will be calling an organising meeting for the campaign in the next week.
