EMERGENCY PROTEST:
HANDS OFF LIBYA: STOP THE BOMBING NOW
SUNDAY 20 MARCH 3-4PM
DOWNING ST, WHITEHALL, LONDON

Britain and the USA have bombed Libya with more than one hundred Tomahawk  cruise missiles. These are not precision guided weapons but weapons of mass destruction that will create many civilian casualties in Libya. The United Nations resolution authorising a no-fly zone begins as it will continue, with a full-scale military attack on the country.

Stop the War condemns this barbarous attack which will result, not in protecting the people of Libya, but in enslaving them under the domination of the West. We know only too well the death and destruction that imperialism has brought to the peoples of the region. We call on all those who oppose these attacks to demonstrate at Downing Street at 3pm on Sunday 20 March.

  1. I suppose the wishes of the Libyan people count for nothing then in your view? You demonstrate exactly why many of us on the left have become disillusioned with the predictable knee jerk reaction of the old fashioned left. Go ahead and give comfort to Gaddafi - you are on the wrong side of history on this one.

  2. Because I am against the military might of the Western imperialism does not mean I am on the side of Gaddafi. I suppose you also want to see the cruise missles rain down on the people of Bahrain, Yemen and Saudi Arabi as these countries don't give a shit about the suffering of "their" people and at this very moment are violently repressing peaceful protesters. I hope you are not naive enough to believe that the action of the Western powers is nothing but compassion for the people of Libya? The world is peppered with brutal dictatorships, I assume that your answer would be for the mighty moralistic West to blow the shit out of them and the world would be a better place. We just have to look at the mess that is Iraq and the ongoing slaughter in Afghanistan to see a couple of recent results of such a policy. Applaud military power and it becomes the answer to all our problems and what a shit mess that would be.
